LOVE (and thunder) it. This might be one of the best teasers I’ve ever seen from the MCU actually, it captures a Vibe without revealing much of the plot. And it’s SO GOOD to see the Guardians of the Galaxy again!
However, the best bit was when Lady Thor showed up and my husband said, absolutely thrilled, “That’s her! That’s Jane Fonda!”
To celebrate the occasion, here’s some of my favourite ladies from fiction!
Row 1: Amy Pond (Doctor Who), Sephy Hadley (Noughts and Crosses), Gamora (Guardians of the Galaxy/MCU), Rose Tico (Star Wars), Elsa (Frozen/Disney), Melissa Chartres (The Last Man on Earth)
Row 2: Eowyn (The Lord of the Rings/Middle Earth), Quinn Ergon (Final Space), The Thirteenth Doctor (Doctor Who), Princess Bubblegum (Adventure Time), Jane Foster (Thor/MCU), Amy Santiago (Brooklyn 99)
Row 3: Brook Soso (Orange is the New Black), Nebula (Guardians of the Galaxy/MCU), Erica Dundee (The Last Man on Earth), Kitty Winter (Sherlock Holmes), Rose Tyler (Doctor Who), Briony Tallis (Atonement)
Row 4: Meredith Quill (Guardians of the Galaxy/MCU), Missandei (Game of Thrones), Rey (Star Wars), Donna Noble (Doctor Who), Carol Pilbasian (The Last Man on Earth), Esmeralda (The Hunchback of Notre Dame/Disney)
Row 5: Sansa Stark (Game of Thrones), Ash Graven (Final Space), Tiana (The Princess and the Frog/Disney), Sophia Burset (Orange is the New Black), Misty (Pokemon), Clara Oswald (Doctor Who)
Row 6: Bill Potts (Doctor Who), Mary Brown (Paddington), Mako Mori (Pacific Rim), Gwen Stacy (Spider-Man), Jackie Tyler (Doctor Who), Ursula Ditkovich (Spider-Man)
Row 7: Yaz Khan (Doctor Who), Mary Jane Watson (Spider-Man), Marceline (Adventure Time), Michelle (10 Cloverfield Lane,), Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow/MCU), Mantis (Guardians of the Galaxy (MCU)
I literally can’t even explain how excited I am about all this!!! (Uh, so I’ll let other bloggers do it for me?)
I may be most thrilled of all about Jane as a new Thor. I love Jane to pieces. But then the Valkyrie thing, my god, is that finally confirmation she’s the “first Marvel LGBT character” we’ve all been waiting for?!?!
Um. Is Thor 4 gonna end with a Valkyrie/Jane pairing? Please, please say yes.
Waking up this Sunday morning my head is still throbbing with a slight headache from all of the exciting news last night from Marvel Studios. It was said there was going to be a panel depicting what’s next for Phase 4 of the MCU, I knew there was going to be some information about the upcoming Black Widow movie and Eternals film but…I was not expecting what would transpire next.
Today, I’m recapping the mind-blowing event last night. You may have been like me, refreshing the Twitter and following along with the live tweets and updates on the websites. If not, prepare for your mind to be blown! Enjoy.
The First Eleven Years
The panel began with a giant montage celebrating the first eleven years of the MCU. Avengers: Endgame spearheaded the end of the montage with Thanos saying, “I am inevitable” followed by Tony Stark’s already-iconic response, “And I am Iron Man.” A few more clips of Endgame were shown before the logo for the first three phases of the MCU was released, which you can see in the picture above. The Infinity Saga. Isn’t it beautiful?
general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | RAVENCLAW | hufflepuff best quality: Her curious nature and pursuit of knowledge worst quality: It’s hard to say really. Gets caught up in her work too much? But Jane doesn’t really have any terrible qualities. She’s lovely ship them with: Thor! brotp them with: Dr Helen Cho (I think they’d get along if only they were allowed to friggin’ meet) and Valkyrie (ditto, although I think it might take them some time to really be friends) needs to stay away from: The Marvel executives misc. thoughts: God I hope she does make it back to the MCU, somehow, even in just a cameo or something
Mantis:
general opinion: fall in a hole and die | don’t like them | eh | they’re fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang hogwarts house:gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff …..this one’s really hard to call best quality: She’s so unfailingly sweet and nice worst quality: Like me, is terribly timid ship them with: Nebulaaaaaa brotp them with: GAMORA, DRAX, all the other Guardians, gosh I love how she got a whole family needs to stay away from: EGO, but thankfully he’s dead. Thanos too, aaaarrrgh misc. thoughts: I hope she gets a moment to really shine, power-wise, in Infinity War!
I know I’ve said this a lot, but I’m still Bitter™ that Jane and Darcy have been practically erased from the MCU when they’re both amazing, badass science ladies (and they’re both Jewish btw) who were given an actual story arc that coincided with Thor’s instead of them just being there to make Thor look better, like, they had as big a part of the story as he had, and I could really go with a Marvel series that dealt with Jane and Darcy and Erik studying the science in the Marvel universe and making cool discoveries and it would be so great but it seems like Marvel is pretty much done with them and it makes me so sad
I second all this.
MARVEL-The Scientists series could have Darcy (political scientist) arguing to fix the Sokovia Accords (while her ex, Ian, looks after Jane), Erik & Jane mapping the universe, Betty Ross’ biology breakthroughs and Helen Cho’s amazing new medical advancements. Sharon Carter could run security.
I was not even that big a fan of Jane and Darcy in the movies. But you step up and erase them and now they are my precious babies and your Thor movie can go fuck itself.
Hell, that’s a perfectly legitimate way to get Bruce into the Thor movies, toss him in for the xenobiology. Instead of Thor vs the Hulk which is awesome but not really necessary.
#I’m so torn about the intricacies of this because on the one hand now we get Valkyrie (who I’m pretty sure back when her casting was announced was the first EVER black female lead in the entire mcu) #and that’s important #but looking back through interviews with natalie portman #there just seems to be a general pattern of marvel not treating their female actors #anywhere near how they treat their male ones #and same with female characters #especially female scientist characters for some reason #see also: betty ross #maya hansen and helen cho #and that’s just really shitty #so I will see thor 3 and I am certain i’ll love it #but I’ll also be a bit sad about what might have been
