guardians of the galaxy

artist-issues:

I love Peter Quill’s EMPATHY.

  • The second thing we learn about him (besides his love of music) is that he gets into fights with other boys because they “killed a little frog that didn’t do nothing.”
  • The filmmakers specifically give us a close up of HIS face when he notices that Rocket has scars on his back.
  • He goes to check on Gamora when the prisoners are trying to execute her, even though she tried to steal his orb and kill him and got him captured by Nova Corps.
  • He tries to keep Rocket and Groot and Drax from killing each other even though he has nothing to gain from keeping the peace, and he tries to comfort Rocket and looks distressed when Rocket says “I didn’t ask to be taken apart and put back together over and over and turned into some little monster.”
  • He has the most scenes of being willing to listen to insensitive Drax when Drax is trying to give advice.
  • Obviously he saves Gamora at the cost of his own well-being when she’s stranded in space
  • He thanks Drax when Drax awkwardly proclaims them as friends, meanwhile Gamora snaps at him.
  • He rallies everybody into saving innocents and becoming heroes.
  • He notices Rocket, who has been nothing but a jerk to him, vaguely comparing himself to Yondu as a mean guy who miraculously didn’t push his friends away. And then he makes this face,

Which is by far my favorite “Kind Starlord” moment, and says, “well of course not.” Purely to comfort Rocket and reassure him that they’re family, without actually SAYING all that mushy stuff, so Rocket keeps his pride without having to apologize.

And, you know, all of GOTG Vol. 3.

guardians of the galaxy volume 3 you autistic coded amalgamation about self projection and siblingship and acceptance even when we dont understand, because that is unconditional love. how fucking beautiful you are, metaphor about physically horrifying creatures being the gentlest beings because they are horrifying only by the traumas that have molded them, only by the abusive parenthoods that have carved them into this thing that people would physically be afraid of. i love you james gunn and his absolute denouncement of eugenics, i love you guardians about seeing the beauty in everything and seeing the love in second chances and i love james gunn challenging the nature vs nurture debate i love you so much

gamora & peter (guardians of the galaxy 3) SPOILERS

if you’re a starmora fan like me, you’ll also understand the pain right now

we know for a fact gamora was falling in love all over again, and the thing that people are forgetting is that this is just gamora from the past and not a completely different gamora from an alternative dimension. because its just gamora from another timeline, her personality is still the same, and she can still fall in love with peter like she did before

there were hints of gamora slowly regaining those feelings, where she’s looking through peter’s stuff and fighting alongside peter again, the moment she was smiling looking up at peter where he fell on top of her on accident (like the first film) and then the ending…

the ending killed me. part of her didn’t want to leave. she does have a new family now and i’m happy for her, but she seriously struggled to leave peter there. “I bet we were fun”. she was FALLING. she really wishes she had those memories of her future self that passed.

she wouldn’t move ahead till nebula initiated her to go

it was such a missed opportunity where peter was out in space about to die and gamora could have been the one to save him like he did for her in the first film. i understand the point of this scene was to give adam some redemption, but i seriously wish it was gamora who saved peter instead

and also when everyone was hugging peter, gamora was the only one standing aside and walked away literally, i wish somehow the creators could of just gave those 2 a moment there as gamora showed relief that peter lived

sadly i know marvel isn’t much on romance (as they literally ruined every pairing we loved) – wanda & vision, thor & jane, tony & pepper, peter & Michelle etc. just hope we could have a happy ending for 1 pairing one day

I’m still kind of bummed about that missed opportunity too.

I like to think that Peter and Gamora become good friends in the future even if they’re not a couple. When Peter gets back from Earth he’ll surely still have contact with her via Nebula and the Ravagers, so I want to hope there eventually ends up being a platonic love between them and between Gamora and the other Guardians.

I dunno, I feel like Gamora’s story isn’t really done yet and I wonder if it ever will be. :( I wish there had been a scene of someone filling her in on exactly what her other self had experienced.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3

I am still not very mentally well but I did manage to see GOTG 3, a film I’ve waited so long for. It’s very, very good. (Spoilers from here on!) I admit I did really want Gamora’s Infinity War death to be “undone” in some way, I’m still bitter about that even after all this time, but at least she’s alive and has a family of her own and is on good terms with the Guardians now.

I REALLY REALLY LOVED that Gamora told Nebula “There are little girls like you all over the galaxy, we can help them” back in Vol 2 and this movie ended with both of them helping little girls escape a monstrous god-like being. OH my heart.

I have no idea what Adam Warlock is like in the comics, I gather nothing like how he is in this movie, but he was hilarious and I wish he was in the movie more. I have a newfound appreciation for Will Poulter’s comedy skills.

I loved Peter Quill in this movie, I have loved him in every GOTG movie despite him being played by Chris Pratt, and I’m very glad that he’s going to stick around in the MCU for a little bit. I really want him to be bisexual now like he is in the comics. Genuine suggestion: since there was that big and touching scene at the end of Adam Warlock saving his life, why not pair him up with Adam?

ALSO: Shout out to the taxi driver who drove us to the cinema who was a fellow theme park history enthusiast! That was super nice, I hadn’t had a fun conversation with a stranger for a while really.
