So it’s been a few days now since Avengers: Endgame came out and I think I’m finally ready to put the Analysis Hat, and the Complaints Hat, and the Celebration Hat on. There were some things I loved and some things I loathed. Also since a lot of people haven’t seen it yet you have to click the ‘more’ button:
Lots of cheering and clapping in the theatre. Girl next to me yelled “Stop clapping, you’re not twelve” at one point. Think there might have been a lot of people there who felt like twelve-year-olds again at certain points. There was a gay character, briefly, and he didn’t die. Wow. Gamora’s not dead. What a long, strange journey it’s been.
Disney rehired James Gunn, but they didn’t apologise for siding with an alt-right bigot over their POC actors, and unless they do I will probably not ever trust them, to be honest.
I saw Captain Marvel yesterday! I feel I guess kinda odd about the fact that the film’s main message is (spoilers) “Your commanding officers have lied to you: your enemies aren’t monsters, just terrified refugees who need your help” BUT the film is sponsored by the US Army. It’s a very good film (it’s essentially an out-and-out female power fantasy) I just dunno what to make of that.
I saw Ant-Man and the Wasp today! It was good, very Marvel, and also Ghost was great? I kinda ship her with Nebula, despite the fact they’ll probably never meet
