I was looking so forward to this and, thank god, it didn’t disappoint. I was worried it would go all schmaltzy, as holiday specials tend to (I’m not really a big Christmas person so all the Cheer(tm) just bounces off me.) But it was lovely overall and it was so nice to see Mantis finally get her moment in the sun. Er, snow.
I liked that the Peter Quill rehabilitation tour is continuing! (not the Chris Pratt rehabilitation tour. Screw that guy.) When Kraglin called him the greatest hero in the galaxy my heart went all wibbly. Man, it’s so so hard loving Quill and hating Pratt, but what ya gonna do.
I did NOT like that Rocket’s fixation with Bucky’s arm was brought up again, even assuming Bucky gave it away willingly cos he got a new one or whatever, it’s a joke that has its roots in ableism and it really needs to die already.
About a month before this aired I learned Yondu was gonna be in it and I was like “???!?!?!” They managed to work him in there in a very pleasing and appropriate way, but I do wish they’d managed to do the same for Gamora somehow.
The big spoiler! Mantis has been Quill’s sister all along and that’s what a lot of the plot revolves around. It does fall a little flat if you’ve seen the behind-the-scenes stuff from GOTG Vol 2 and know that was supposed to be the idea right from the beginning, though. Here’s a little photoshop manipulation of Ego and Mantis’ mother that I did years ago, based on the deleted scene of them.
GOTG Vol 3 inches ever nearer. :) Hey maybe Mantis can learn more about her mother in that one.
The Daily Mail posted a bunch of them, but I don’t want anyone to have to go to the Daily Mail site (FUCK no) so I grabbed a few to post here. The better option, I promise.
Whatcha wearing there, Thor?
Hating Chris Pratt as a person but loving Star-Lord is really hard, it suuuuucks.
NEB U LA
KRAGLIN! Is it weird that I’m almost more exited to see him than any of the other GOTG, since he sat out Infinity War and all? I wasn’t expecting him to even be in this movie! I have no idea what role he’ll play here but I hope it’s something big.
This time last year three years ago Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was released in the UK. I didn’t know at the time what a HUGE impact it would have on me, but here we are!
Still one of my favourite movies in the universe, three years on.
The Guardians of the Galaxy crew did a watchalong of the second movie just like I wanted, and it was at 2am my time. Aw no. But, just like last time, I decided to put all the most substantive tweets together!
Apparently there was a watch-along of the first GOTG yesterday and James Gunn and the cast shared some stuff! I missed it all being in the wrong timezone and all, but here’s the highlights! I had a blast reading them, I hope they do Vol 2 next.
(Awww. :( )
I really don’t like that Quill ran out on his grandparents, never have, but it does make for good fanfiction fodder I guess. I doubt they were close.
Well if it isn’t the Guardians of the Galaxy, back for another funny, action-packed comedy adventure, shockingly rooted in deep, painful and beautiful emotion. On a scale of 1 to MY HEART EXPLODED, how awesome was it to see the gang again? The sequel was highly anticipated after the success of the original, which, let’s be honest, was a bit of a gamble in itself.
Sequels are hard, especially when the original was so beloved. But, Vol 2 knocked it out of the park, bringing us everything we have come to expect from this rag-tag group of lovable dickheads.
AND it solved the mystery of Quill’s parentage!
The movie began with a peek into the whirlwind romance of Peter’s parents, with her being awesome and him being CGI. He showed her a glowing flower-type thing in the forest (I’m sure it’s nothing), and then they made out a bunch.
Okay this looks really interesting, especially since I gather it’s about Pirate Yondu meeting his ancestor Original Yondu, and that multi-universe relation fix was a lot of people’s headcanon back in the day. But on the other hand Kraglin appears to be dead in this one, so eep, and also there’s no Peter and honestly the thing I care about most re Yondu is his relationship with Peter. (And also Michael Rooker’s performance, which obviously cannot be contained in a comic.) So… we’ll see! There’s quite a few comics I want to pick up next time I get the chance.
