the last man on earth

fuckyeahforte:

No matter what happens, if the show gets picked up or not, I’m so proud to have been a fan of The Last Man on Earth. It truly is a unique show that was unlike anything else. I think it beat the odds just by getting on the air. It makes me emotional just thinking about how far the show has come since premiering. And i’m so proud of Will. This show truly was a product of him mind. Yes it had great writers, yes Fox gave the show a good chance, yes the cast was flawless. But at its very core, Will was the magic behind the show. This show would’ve never been what it became without him. I’m so proud to be a fan of Will, and this show proves exactly why. Fingers crossed for a Season 5 pickup!

Exclusive Clip from ‘The Last Man on Earth’ Season Finale Addresses the Jasper Problem

I think this was probably the best way to write Jasper out, to be honest. He’s not dead, he’s not incapacitated in any way, he just… doesn’t really want to be around them, and giving him a self-driving car which will take him right to them if he wants to come is a better alternative than dragging him kicking and screaming.

But I do hope we see him again. I still really want there to be another time-jump where we see an adult Jasper… played by Craig Robinson.

full offense but the last man on earth is peak comedy and deserves as much love and attention as shows like brooklyn nine nine or parks and rec and y’all are sleeping on it

Like, I do get that its particular brand of silly humor (fart jokes, poop jokes, characters annoying each other…) is not for everyone, and season one isn’t really all that great, especially regarding the female characters. But right on from season two it’s amazing. And you get so much goodness representation-wise, especially from the women:

  • Melissa, a white woman who struggles with mental illness and also doesn’t want to get pregnant, even though the central group of characters are attempting to repopulate the earth by having as many kids as possible. She’s good with children but she doesn’t want any of her own, and she sticks to her guns and the narrative respects that. (As someone in a similar situation, I love her.)
  • Erica, a black queer woman who is the youngest and most innocent of the core group
  • Gail, a white queer woman over 50 with a good few questions in her past, none of which we will find out the answers to if the show gets canceled
  • Carol, another white woman who (although the show has never said it outright…) definitely comes off as an autistic person. She’s the female lead and (post season 2) her husband adores her and would sacrifice anything for her. Also her outfits are amazing
  • Jasper, a very young black kid who’s mostly mute owing to the trauma he’s suffered, although the adults help him out he prefers to be alone most of the time
  • Todd, a Latino man who starts off overweight and doesn’t get thin. (Post season two, I think the show stopped making jokes about his weight entirely.)
  • Mike, a white male scientist and astronaut who I’m pretty sure has PTSD. He definitely would’ve been the hero if this show was a drama, but here he’s… he’s a woobie, as the kids say. Constantly suffering, damn.
  • Tandy, the white possibly-not-straight man who’s the main/title character, although these days you can get through whole episodes and never realise he’s meant to be the main character, because the show’s so much an ensemble piece now. (Also the title means absolutely nothing anymore, obviously.)

….this is all to say it’s a really good show, and I feel like so many more people would love it if they just knew it existed. But as it stands it might end up being cancelled and… sigh… replaced with a show about a Trump supporter. C’mon guys! Apparently a vocal fanbase managed to save Brooklyn 99 so if there’s anything you can do for this one, even just watching the season finale 9:30/8:30c on Fox

tomorrow, please help us do it!

tlmoedaily:

it’s that time of year again!

The Last Man on Earth, always teetering about on the brink of being cancelled, is… teetering about on the brink of being cancelled. Except this time we know (thanks to Will Forte) that
“a really different, interesting story” is about to happen, ending on “another huge cliffhanger.”

We still have some stories to tell so hopefully
we’ll get a fifth season. Honestly we’re lucky we’ve gotten four. We’d
love to wrap up the show on our terms but hey, not everybody’s that
lucky.

Which is good! But also bad, obviously, with the show being in limbo so much! So… if you want to support the show (and honestly, it is a very good show, and getting better every year:)

  • Send tweets to Fox and/or the official TLMOE twitter using the above hashtags or whatever you fancy! Especially during/just after episodes air, apparently, if you wanna increase your chances of anyone seeing them
  • Make gifs and edits and stuff because why the hell not
  • Email support@fox.com! Incredibly nerveracking but probably worthwhile
  • send some of the actors some love with the above hashtags! Will Forte / Kristen Schaal / Mel Rodriguez / Cleopatra Coleman / Mary Steenburgen
  • WATCH THE SHOW LIVE, I guess is the obvious one. American households, of which I am not one, the show is on Fox on Sunday evenings.
  • But you can also watch on the Fox website and Hulu!
  • (Wanna watch having never watched before, don’t know what’s it about and don’t mind spoilers? Try here! Or just, go through this blog!)

see ya on the other side everyone!

A interesting and depressing new development took place today, unfortunately. Deadline claims that TLMOE will most likely be cancelled to make way for the similarly named, but not at all akin to, Last Man Standing. The one that used to be “the only show on ABC for a conservative audience.” The one with convicted drug dealer and antisemite Tim Allen in the main role. That one.

I don’t want to lose TLMOE. I really, really don’t. But the thought of losing it because Tim Allen and co decided to ooze all over it, that’s worse. And I don’t think there’s anything I can do about it, beyond queuing this post up a few more times I guess. I’m just really, really bummed out.

Losing a show with LGBT characters, a relatively diverse cast and a hopeful theme of banding together to a show about a Trump supporter. TV-wise, you couldn’t have a better summing up of fucking 2018, could you?
