I’m digging this picture (from the big MCU Infinity War photoshoot) because can you think of characters any more mismatched than Shuri and Nebula? Shuri is a scientist, Nebula is a bruiser. Shuri fixes people, Nebula kills people. Shuri has a good relationship with her sibling, Nebula… kinda does not. Shuri loved her father, Nebula hates her father. And so on.
I keep turning this Art idea around in my head: “MCU ladies as Disney Princesses, except all designed to reflect their specific cultural backgrounds instead of just generic women wearing dresses” Does that make sense? Like-
Natasha’s roots are Russian, so I picture her in something like this, except more streamlined and easy to move in. Maybe she’s got a knife hidden in there somewhere.
Shuri already is a princess (and I guess a Disney one too!) so her design would be based on whatever Wakandan ceremonial wear she has in Black Panther.
Peggy is British so I guess she’d get something like what the current crop of British royalty wears. Something white maybe, since apparently Queen Victoria started the trend in the UK of brides wearing white dresses. (And also Peggy gets called “Queen Victoria” in Captain America.)
Gamora is difficult since the character comes from well, space. But Zoe Saldana is half Dominican and half Puerto Rican. So I wonder if a colourful dress like this would be right, except green and purple since those are Gamora’s colours. (And a sword, don’t forget the sword)
Same with Valkyrie (including the sword part). But she’s technically from Norse mythology. So maybe she could have something like this, so she gets to keep her blue cape as well.
ONE small problem: I can’t Art. Like… at all. I have ideas, I can picture all these designs really clearly. But I cannot draw or paint or do anything like that. Uh – perhaps you wanna have a go at it, reader?
To outfit an entire fictional nation, Ruth E. Carter studied a crucial and non-historical reference tool — a “Wakandan Bible” — which helped her map out and break down the different communities within the kingdom. “I looked at Wakanda like Manhattan,” she explained, detailing the young, “Afro-punk” student and intellectual-populated “NYU-area,” or the “Midtown” business districts or the “Columbia”-esque medical center, which also helped her determine how to differentiate the residents via dress.
Wakanda’s high-tech civilization and resources include the coveted indestructible metal, vibranium, which also powers Black Panther’s supersuit. Carter also needed to incorporate Wakanda’s technological superiority into the costumes — especially when Coogler deemed one of her earlier pitches as being “too low tech.”
“[So, I took] all of this design research and combining of these elements and made it forward-thinking,” she explained. “More or less, we’re paying homage to the ancient people of Africa, but we’re also showing that they are proud of their heritage and moving ahead by having more vibranium laced into the costume by their costume having a purpose — a real clear purpose.” – Interview with Ruth E. Carter, costume designer for Black Panther (2018)
Everyone in Infinity Wars gonna be complaining about how hard these last few years have been for them until Thor rolls up with no hair, no hammer, and one eye.
Don’t forget “my planet had to be destroyed to keep my sister from killing like the whole universe so now me and all my people are refugees. But hey, Loki’s back, that’s good news!”
Peter(raises his hand in the back): “…My homecoming date‘s dad turned out to be my arch nemesis and a building fell on me!“
Thor (smiles and gives a thumbs-up): “Good for you! (aside, to Tony)…Who is that person? Do we know him or did he just show up?”
Peter Quill: [is literally just in the corner, sobbing.]

Peter Q(Walks up out of nowhere): My dad turned out to be a sadistic dark God who killed my mother and tried to turn me into a living battery.
Thor: I like you. (hands over an oversized mug of ale)
