rocket raccoon

As a Disney Princess, Shuri could use a wisecracking animal sidekick, and I hereby nominate Rocket! He might be into it—I think these two will become friends over their shared love of inventing stuff. Also in this comic, Shuri is asking some of the many questions I have about aliens in the MCU. (Seriously, I would 100% watch a movie that’s just Shuri doing science and hanging out with the GotG.)

I’m reblogging this because Shuri is the best and we get to see all these characters in Infinity War in just a few days!!! (Also, I firmly believe that Rocket is the sort of person who tries to mess with his friends the second he feels the least bit comfortable around them. Here though, Shuri and Mantis don’t fall for it.)

WHAT
I need to rewatch it

Wtf

Fandom: we have a mission. If you find any clues, for God’s sake, share!

One thing that’s always bugged me a bit is that Yondu pulls out “I know them scientists what made you” like he’s known it for a long time. As far as I can tell, the movies show all the known interactions between these two, and they don’t talk about it.  The best explanation I was able to get for myself was that surely there are public records and Yondu looked up Peter’s new crew to make sure he was cool with them being with his kid, and saw about the same as what is discussed in Vol 1.  Not sure if that goes anywhere.

Other question: Does this version of Rocket know who created him?

Side thought: I don’t believe we’ve fully answered the question of what planet Rocket’s body came from (Drax’s line about eating that animal on his planet, this version of Drax appearing to not come from Erath).

Some of Peter’s comments when he and Rocket are arguing still niggle at me. He takes it for granted that Rocket is a raccoon, but wouldn’t that make him curious? Has he looked into it?

And then we have Rocket knowing (for one thing) that he was cybernetically engineered to pilot a spacecraft. That seems like a sign he knows more than he’s told us so far.

@verilidaine @closelyrelatedtoraccoons there is a tweet, from James Gunn, way back in 2014 that refers to Rocket as ‘An alien raccoon-like animal’… of course he might have changed his mind. Personally I prefer the idea of him being an uplifted earth-raccoon.

This hidden clue in GotG Vol. 2 for Rocket’s creator is possibly not visual but cryptic. At first I considered Rocket’s creators to be the Kree, specifically the Kree Supreme Intelligence. This theory was based on one of the planets Rocket scrolls through just before the 700 jumps sequence:

The Kree are known scientists and genetic engineers. The Nova
Corps also know Rocket’s subject name which was mentioned in the prison line-up sequence on Xandar – “Subject 89P13. Calls itself Rocket. The result of illegal genetic and cybernetic experiments on a lower lifeform.”

During the Kree-Nova war the Nova Corps could have raided the lab in which Rocket was created allowing him to escape.

Yondu was also a Kree battle-slave for twenty years. He knows what the Kree are like – “I know the scientists what made you never gave a rat’s ass about you.”

But it’s not going to be that easy. Because then I recalled the coordinates featured underneath the location titles in Vol. 2 –

MISSOURI EARTH

THE SOVEREIGN

BERHERT

M20

CONTRAXIA

EGO’S PLANET

Compare these coordinates to Vol. 1 –

This sequence was discovered by substituting each number
with its corresponding  position in the alphabet. The new sequence purportedly hinted that Ego was the cause of
Meredith Quill’s cancer.

Using this method we need to figure out what the coordinates for Vol. 2 spell out. This time James Gunn has made things harder.
The coordinates when replaced with letters are a bunch of mumbo jumbo. These are
most likely anagrams. If everything works out we may discover the hidden clue
for Rocket’s creator!

Good luck everyone!

“Guardians of the Galaxy is, to me, more than anything else, about adults who were abused as children starting to heal, uneasily and in fits and starts, by building relationships with other adults who were abused as children.“ – James Gunn

I wish to put an Opinion out there: Sean Gunn is the most underrated actor in the MCU. We don’t appreciate him enough. Dudes, as well as playing Kraglin (a role which required a heavy costume and plenty of make-up) he did all of Rocket’s motion-capture in both movies. He had to spend all day on set crouched down in a blue/green skintight suit making raccoon poses. According to James Gunn (yeah, he was directed by his older brother as well) he
had to do “a lot of strange physical things.” Yuh-huh.

AND he often had to play Rocket and Kraglin IN THE SAME SCENE, which required all sorts of camera trickery and impressive physical accomplishments. He had to play a scene where one of his characters is climbing on his other character’s back, guys!!!

He also acted one of the most heartwarming and devastating scenes in the entire two-hour span of the heartwarming and devastating GOTG 2, namely the bit where the Ravager captains return for Yondu’s funeral and Kraglin just collapses into near-hysterics:

And he didn’t even get his name on the top of the poster! Bah.
