Here’s a follow up.
A few hours after I posted this, these images were posted to Reddit, and amazingly, the daughter of the cosplayer in this image stepped forward. Read the thread!

She was considerate enough to post another image of this costume, which she wore to the premiere of the Empire Strikes Back in 1980:
And just for fun, here’s another cosplay she did, of an Andorian Star Trek alien:
Both her daughter and son are cosplayers as well (the daughter, by the way, is like a xerox of her mother from 1977). A very amazing story, and I am delighted there was a follow up.
