finally got around to finishing Garnet

Dark red, bright pink and magenta are not available in very versatile colours, so some sacrifices had to be made. She’s very poseable but quite fragile. But I’m very happy overall with how she turned out. I’m thinking about the possibility of a pearl and amethyst…

GIMME

There is no part of this diatribe that is not amazing or 100% true.

Yeah ok but people who work minimum wage didn’t go to college so they don’t have all the student loans to pay off so they don’t have to make more than 9 dollars an hour. These jobs are made for teenagers in high school and college trying to get a couple of extra bucks to go out with friends not a mom working at Walmart trying to pay all her bills which is not possible

[snip]

 [snip]

Oh god, actually there was something else I meant to say that I forgot about.

I now work in an office setting, after 10 years of working my way up through shitty retail jobs (after I had already obtained my bachelor’s degree, by the way).

It is the cushiest. Job. I have ever had.

I am currently sitting on my ass in a comfy office chair. Typing to you. On a social media website. No one is looking over my shoulder. And even if they did. They would not care. I will never get “written up” for not being “on task” and I will never be asked to stand up for 8+ hours doing physical labor. I don’t deal with the public. I’ve yet to be screamed at by a soccer mom who’s coupon didn’t work, or who’s pissed because the sign said buy two get one free but she thought it said by ONE get one free and tHE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT!!!1

No one tells me, “If you got time to lean, you got time to clean!” or any of those other bs comments that retail managers just LOOOOVVVEEE to say when there’s nothing to do but you are still expected to be physically working at all times in order to fully EARN that shitty $7 an hour.

I’ve yet to clean up any actual human feces at this job.

And I make roughly twice what I made at my last retail position. It’s still not a huge amount of money – I still only make enough to barely make ends meet. But the fact that I put up with significantly less bs than I was ever asked to at my minimum wage jobs, and I make so much more money doing it? It’s crazy.

Why is it that in this country, the physically easier a job is, the more money you make???

Our system makes no sense.

this is the truest shit i have ever read in my life

“people who work minimum wage didn’t go to college.”

Alright. So on a scale from one-to-dumbfuck (not accounting for the economic downturn, of course), just how brain-dead are you? I need to know, for research purposes. The sheer levels of idiocy are hard to quantify.

Who wants another story?

I used to be a care worker. Here’s a short list of what is expected of the average care worker:

  • ability to administer medicine correctly. If you fuck it up, someone could end up in hospital or die.
  • ability to work 14-hour shifts, 7-9 or more. (Then go home and start at 7 again the next morning.)
  • ability to respond to everything with kindness and understanding
  • ability to respond in the least violent way possible when someone is coming at you with a weapon or trying to choke you. You will note that this is more than is expected of cops.
  • ability to cook and clean to a high standard. Yes, you will have to clean things you don’t want to clean. Yes, you’ll get dirty. Let’s hope you’ve got time for a shower when you get back before you have to sleep and go back to work again!
  • ability to memorise the likes, dislikes and triggers of about 5-7 people
  • ability to handle money appropriately
  • oh and you need a high standard of English for forms, notes etc.

Most care companies pay slightly more than minimum wage, but only slightly – and then the workers lose out anyway because of dishonest practices. Also, not that it matters, but most of the people I worked with had been to or were going to college – they were studying maths, science, psychology etc. These were clever people, working in a job that demanded every bit of their brainpower, and they were paid essentially one McDonalds meal for every hour they spent comforting, helping, or giving medicine to people.

Anyway whenever I read the jobs page in the paper I’d see vacancies for office jobs, IT jobs etc that paid much more an hour than what I got, and I realised how deeply fucked up it is that society pays people more for looking after bits of data than they pay people for looking after human beings.

if anybody asks me why i hate men, i’m just gonna redirect them to this post.

it’s pretty fucking obvious that men only want to invest in breast cancer research to further degrade, objectify, and jerk off to body parts they already feel 100% entitled to. that’s what is at stake for them.

what about the women whose “tatas” weren’t saved? how must they feel being surrounded by awareness ads that focus more on keeping women’s sexy-sexy-titties-to-continue-titillating-the-males than saving real life human beings and helping survivors?

If anyone’s wondering, those posts came from here. It’s a forum for breast cancer support. Give it a read, and you’ll see how many women are outright abandoned by their husbands, sometimes after being married for decades, because their “tatas” couldn’t be saved.

This culture of “save the tatas” even goes as far as the doctor’s offices themselves. Most doctors request that the husband be present during surgical consultations, as though he has an equal say in the patient-professional discussion.

If the woman is single, as was my case, doctors have actually recommended postponing surgery until she finds a relationship, because “it could be nearly impossible to find someone who accepts it [your unnatural tatas] in years to come”.

I’m 15 months post-mastectomy, and the date I had this past week was the first time since then that a guy hadn’t reacted negatively to my scars. The relief was so overwhelming that I was fighting back tears. When I told him —essentially warning him that my body wasn’t what he must be expecting — I felt so guilty; it seemed to have the same weight and shame as telling someone I had some sort of an incurable STI or a felony record.

I shouldn’t have felt that way. I should not be ashamed of choosing to live.

I met a really clever reader the other day, and this is what’s wonderful about books; she said to me, I really know what Neville looks like.’ And I said,Describe Neville for me.’ And she said, `Well, he’s short and he’s black, and he’s got dreadlocks.’ Now, to me, Neville’s short and plump and blond, but that’s what’s great about books. You know, she’s just seeing something different. People bring their own imagination to it. They have to collaborate with the author on creating the world.

YOUNG UNARMED BLACK MAN SHOT AND PARALYZED IN HIS NEIGHBORHOOD BY FAKE COP FOR TALKING TO WHITE GIRL IN HIS CAR

On February 4, sitting in his own car in his own neighborhood, talking to a female passenger, Monroe Bird was shot in the neck by a security guard, Ricky Stone, a 52-year-old white man. The bullet pierced the C3 vertebrae in his neck. Standing 6 feet, 8 inches, Bird, a gifted athlete, is now unable to move his arms or legs and relies on a ventilator to breathe.

Heres what you need to know:

  1. The security guard who shot Bird possessed marijuana at the time of the shooting. He told the Tulsa police that he hadn’t smoked it in a few weeks, and they didn’t even give him a citation. This is the definition of white privilege. Mind you, Tulsa was quick to test Eric Harris for drugs after they killed him and then released the results widely—even though he never acted violently toward officers.
  2. The security guard went to the tired, age-old excuse and claimed that he saw Bird reach into his glove compartment. According to the police report, no weapons were found in or near the car, and no items that even seemed to belong in the glove compartment were found out or about in the car.
  3. The security guard claimed he thought Monroe and his female passenger were having sex in the car and that he only approached them because of this. She’s white. Bird is black. Both denied doing anything of the sort.
  4. The security guard has claimed that Bird, who has no criminal record, attempted to run him over and basically kill him there on the spot.

Both the female passenger and Bird denied the guard’s account and stated that they were driving away when Stone began recklessly firing his gun into the car.

  5. The security guard who shot Bird worked for Benjy D. Smith, who owns Smith & Son Security Company. This important to know because Smith is a reserve deputy for the same Tulsa Sheriff’s Office that is currently under national scrutiny for its unethical practices with Reserve Deputy Bob Bates, who shot and killed Eric Harris earlier this year.

  6. The insurance company is denying him coverage because they claim “it was his own fault that he got shot.”

PLEASE HELP HIM!!

you can either Donate (doesnt have to be alot it can be as small as $5) or Call the healthcare group and demand they give coverage with the number listed above.

Avengers Throwbacks

I redrew the Avengers: Age Of Ultron character posters in the style of their first appearances (doing my best impressions of Joe Simon, Jack Kirby, Don Heck, and John Buscema).

Unfortunately, Tumblr has no way to embed the photo slider functionality that lets you compare the illustrations to the photo posters, so you’ll have to view them on this page to get the full effect.

Created for Shirts.com.

(This is the real source of the artwork attached to that bloody post going around, where someone has nicked this artwork in order to bullshit people about Marvel ‘basing’ their movie posters on this ‘original artwork’. I guess the fact people buy it (despite it being a far-fetched notion that Marvel would do duch a thing to please a handful of obsessive fans) just goes to show that Kat Willeard did an amazing job of mimicking the style of these artists. But while that’s currently garnered 30,000+ notes, the actual artist has been cheated out of any recognition!
