Just in case you wanted an update on how we’re doing at the moment: our Prime Minister gave her conference speech today and had an excruciating coughing fit (the Chancellor of the Exchequer gave her a lozenge)

A prankster went up to her and gave her a P45 form “from Boris”

A closer look:

And as if it couldn’t get any worse, the letter F dropped off the sign behind her:

[insert “no Fs were given” joke here]

Even her staff are low key trolling her:

That’s not to mention the fact that she was wearing a Frida Kahlo bracelet – even though Kahlo was a feminist, communist, artist, Trotsky’s lover, despised all May stands for…

But yes, we are totally and completely fine over here. (Please help us)

people are pissed off at your post because it completely ignores the socio political differences between the UK & the US and made it seem like they’re the same when they’re not. (in the UK we don’t have nazis/Skinheads marching, the gov doesn’t let them do whatever like the US, the freedom of speech thing is different here). Like it seemed u did no research at all and it was ridiculous because not every country has the same bullshit going on as the US. if someone did same with mexico u be pissed

Okay. Like, I need everyone to chill because:

A. This is obviously not meant to be canon. It’s not even a full fic. Is just a reflection about how the epilogue -if written nowadays- could have had a lot more impact if it carried a current message that made people reflect.

B. While set in the U.K., the HP books deal with global issues like racism, xenophobia and protectionism. After all, it’s been generally accepted that Voldemort’s movement was meant to reflect nazism/fascism which very clearly did not happen nor originated in the UK.

C. The point of having a fictional world like the wizarding world separated from the “real world” is the ability to use it to reflect bigger and smaller issues without actually having to comply to real life events and yet touching themes that are pertinent and real for the audience.

D. Anyone talking about this post and complaining that it’s “US-Centric” is missing the point about how deeply the whole world is affected by the imperialistic tendencies of the USA. You think everyone else isn’t suffering too the consequences of their xenophobia? At least in my country, we are. And I’m well aware of international news to know more hate movements have started all over Europe too.

E. Forgive me if I’m making an educated guess based on what I see in the news, but while the U.K. Issue isn’t categorized precisely as “nazism” wasn’t the whole Brexit vote heavily influenced by the same immigrant-hating, fear pushing, “they are stealing our jobs”, protectionist and separatists ideals that put the Annoying Orange in the White House?

TL;DR: yes, many of this issues originate in the US but don’t kid yourself, they are global issues and –while set in the U.K.– the original series took advantage of the fantastical side of its world to reflect on global issues and messages that impacted everyone. This is barely a suggestion for a continuation of that trend set in more contemporary issues.

In the UK we MOST ASSUREDLY DO have nazis and skinheads marching, anon, they just do it less openly.

But trust me, they’re there

I only learned one minute ago that instead of a single adjustable tap like the entire rest of the world,  the sinks in Britain just have a separate “hot” tap and separate “cold” tap. What the fuck is that shit. How do you people get lukewarm water out?? You just have to wait until the sink itself fills with both extremes???

yer all sayin America has these two and I’ve never seen one in three decades of living from one coast to the other, my mind is blown

OKAY IT SEEMS SOME PEOPLE DIDN’T REALIZE WHAT THIS WAS ABOUT BECAUSE THE PHOTO ISN’T CLEAR ENOUGH

There are two different faucets on that sink. Two spouts. One only has a “hot” knob and one only has a “cold” knob. Two streams of water come out of this type of sink and neither can come out lukewarm. Here’s another photo of one:

They apparently do make it difficult enough that you can buy adapters for them and some people just make their own:

There are also lots of British people complaining about them in memes:

So I was right that these things are a shitty pain in the ass, I dunno if they’re really at their most common in Britain but I know I have seen 10,000 sinks in America and every single one just had the single stream.

You normally see two taps in older houses, cause in the early days of modern plumbing the hot and cold water came from different tanks and the hot water tank wasn’t safe to drink from. So if the hot and cold water went through the same tap and there was a leak then your drinking water (the cold water) would get contaminated. Thus, separate taps. It’s not a problem anymore because all the water now comes from one safe to drink tank and is just warmed up as necessary, so one tap is ok.

Also in Winston Churchill’s memoirs he goes to Russia and gets very excited about their mixer taps so Churchill agrees with you

They’re not quite as common now but they exist and they’re a pain in the arse
