how did these people manage to take over the world
i remember seeing tumblr discourse once where someone from the UK was making fun of americans having so much air conditioning and telling us to just “open a window” while it regularly reaches 100+ degrees Fahrenheit here in the summer and y’all are passing out in cool breezy 75 degrees weather
y’all fucks. I live in Australia. We get like, 40 degree Celcius days in summer, who the fuck is passing out in 23 degree weather bunch of weaklings i swear to god
Old people, people with chronic conditions, people with breathing difficulties. You know, those weakling disabled people. 760 of them died in one year in fact, almost as if living in a country that’s freezing cold one minute and boiling hot the next has an adverse effect on vulnerable people.
Get air conditioning? Fuck me, in the UK you’re lucky to get a fucking reliable wheelchair to wheel yourself into the shade! It’s all so funny, right?
Once again I’ve got to point out that it costs £0.00 not be to a bitch about the UK experiencing weather that is unseasonably warm for us.
‘Oh boohoo it’s so hot here in Cali!’ ‘Haha that’s cold weather in Australia!’
Yeah great except it’s not California or Australia, it’s Britain, where we’re not prepared for unusual weather and where we don’t have AC in most houses and our buildings are designed for cold weather.
In Britain people – especially the elderly – literally die from unusual heatwaves. Last year I passed out and was violently ill with heatstroke whilst 6 months pregnant due to temperatures that in some countries were considered ‘cool’.
So yes, 23C in APRIL whilst RUNNING is unusually hot weather for the UK and of course it took it’s toll on all the people NOT USED TO RUNNING IN 23C HEAT.
Any place getting weather that is out of the ordinary and that they are unprepared for is a serious matter.
Oh, yes, and someone has actually died during this marathon so. You demons can go away.
Yeah we aren’t overreacting. A healthy young man literally collapsed and died… we just aren’t adapted to hot (or very cold) weather. 90% of the time in the UK it’s very mild.
i dont get it tho bc 70 degrees literally isnt hot…
Yeah to you it isn’t. Idk where you’re from but it was hot enough to make a healthy young man literally collapse and die of heat exhaustion. Personally i’m not that bothered by the heat but again we’re not adapted for heat in the UK. Even the way our buildings are built, most houses are mostly carpeted and built to keep as much heat in as possible. Also the people were running a marathon…
In summer 2013, in the UK the heat was 28 – 30°c (84 – 86 f ) and as of July that year 760 people had died due to the heat. ‘Oh but it’s not that hot, you’re overreacting’… hundreds of people died, is their death just them overreacting to the heat?
People become accustomed to their climate, and if they are suddenly placed in one very different, they will be uncomfortable. People in Britain will overheat in these temperatures the same way people in the Philippines would freeze if suddenly thrust into 50F weather. Sudden changes in climate kill people across the world every time temperature records are broken. And they’re not dying to be dramatic.
Every year, people die in the heatwaves. Elderly and disabled people, mostly. What’s it going to take for you to stop laughing?
“Most of the “Windrush generation”, so-called after the first ship which arrived from Jamaica in 1948, consisted of citizens of the UK and Colonies, a form of citizenship conferred by the British Nationality Act 1948, and also known as Commonwealth citizenship. There were no immigration restrictions on these people entering the UK at that time; they were known as the “freely landed“. In fact, as Colin says, they “were allowed to live and work anywhere within the territories of the United Kingdom and Colonies. There was total freedom of movement”.“ [x]
Then in 1971 the Immigration Act was formed, to restrict immigration, as before then, any citizen of the commonwelth could come and live here, but those already present and settled in the UK when the Act came into force on 1 January 1973 – i.e. those without any restriction on their leave – were automatically entitled to stay indefinitely in the UK under the Immigration Act 1971 section 1(2).
They are citizens. They were citizens. They will always be citizens. The problem is that the government then thought that everyone fucking knew that so didn’t give out any paperwork and now Theresa May has created a “hostile environment” which means they need more proof than any one human could ever accrue. I mean honestly, do you think an elderly person could easily afford the £229 application fee for a NTL biometric residence permit (which is what, thanks to Theresa May, is required for them to not be deported)?
And if they could afford that, do you think they could manage to scrape together “proof” when the bar is so ridiculously high as to require:
evidence of Commonwealth citizenship
arrival in the UK
that they were “‘ordinarily resident” on 1 January 1973 (this would be shown by being a minor and a Commonwealth citizen on arrival)
no absence from the UK since 1988 for over two years
That they are still ordinarily resident at the time of the application (broadly, evidence needs to be provided that the applicant has been in the UK for the past five years)
Like, I dunno about you, but I’ve not met anyone who has kept documents around for something they never thought they’d need, for 45 years. But apparently they should have done.
Have some damned sympathy mate. This is NOT their fault. This is a fucking travesty.
I KNOW WHAT I SAID YESTERDAY, but i need you all to educate yourselves on something that is going on at the moment.
if you’re in the uk, i am sure you have heard of what is called the WINDRUSH GENERATION, but for those abroad essentially it is this: a group of people from the british commonwealth who moved here legally have had their records lost / destroyed (to be determined) and a number of those people have been detained / not been able to be let back into the country after being abroad. there are threats of deportation flying, a man has his access to vital medicine on the NHS removed. like i said, these people are people who moved here when free immigration was legal, prior to 1971, and a lot of them LEGALLY on their parent’s passports (as was the system here) meaning a lot of them have no papers in their name. primarily, the people are black caribbean.
here’s the scary part, and why i am posting, my family are a part of this generation. my papi has lived her since he was 7 months old. while my mammy is jamaican born and bred, my papi never lived in his homeland, and he could lose his right to work, his right to the NHS, his right to live here, all because the home office lost papers, and his were in his parents name. now, yes, there have been A LOT of promises made in parliament, and i know theresa may is saying nothing will happen to these people and cases of discrimination against rightful british citizens will be negated by the government but 1) MAY HAS A TRACK RECORD OF BEING ANTI-IMMIGRATION and 2) because the government lost the only things proving when people like my papi moved here, we can’t prove they are rightful british citizens.
so what am i asking????
first, educate yourselves, please. you can read some more in depth pieces about this through these links: X, X, X, X– mentions of death in this one, VIDEO HERE.
second, if you are in the UK, please please please please LOBBY YOUR MP’S. you have a voice, we have a voice. send letters, call them, email them, tweet them, facebook them. create a stir. we are the people and we will not stand for some britons being treated better than others.
third, if you are not from the UK —– share our voices. seek us out, we are speaking, use your power to make us louder.
forth, PLEASE, if you read nothing else i link, read this. please, i beg you. listen to the stories of people like my father. listen to the windrush generation. hear their voices.
i know tumblr is america centric and i get it, honestly, i do. but i am british-carribean before i am here for any of you and i am begging you, don’t let us be silenced.
if you know any muslims in the uk or north america please please tell them to be careful on april 3rd there’s this awful “punish a muslim” day that these vile assholes have planned. it could be a sick hoax but it’s better to be prepared and stay vigilant just in case
What?? What’s the hell?!?!
The UK Counter Terrism force is asking anyone who recieves a letter like this to perserve it as well as they can and hand it over to the athorities so that they can try and find out who’s doing this. I don’t think that as of right now anyone in the US or Canada has been recieving them, they appear to have only been sent to 6 areas in England, however if you are in the US or Canada and you do recieve a letter like this DO turn it into the authorities because even if this is a hoax people might still decide to participate in this gross act.
Quick update on the Leicester situation. Five people are confirmed dead, which is obviously horrible, and it seems quite likely kids were among the victims, which is even more horrible. This gofundme seems to have been set up by their school, which is just down the road from my village, I ride the same bus as kids from that school. So that’s very upsetting.
So yeah, do pass this along if you can. According to the news reports I’ve seen, the death toll might still rise. :(
After winning two of the night’s biggest awards, the south London MC expressed dismay over the aftermath of the Grenfell disaster and castigated the Daily Mail. Stormzy delivered a verbal attack on Theresa May in a show-closing freestyle performance.
