phil tandy miller: totally and completely 100% straight, no interest in men here at all

y’know no-one asked for meta but Phil having a well-hidden, well-suppressed attraction to men makes so much sense, especially since it comes to the rift between him and Mike

like, Mike is basically a dumb immature frat boy who just happens to also be a space and science genius, he’s constantly ribbing Phil because that’s what he does and what Phil does back. you look at him and and you listen to the stuff he says (”this is you and me just goofing off”) and it’s obvious he has no idea whatsoever how cruel some of his remarks are.

(i’m honestly not sure this would have worked with an actor other than Jason Sudeikis)

anyway, the bit where Mike brings up the football player that Phil was apparently stalking, that makes Phil really rattled and it just – makes me wonder. we’re told Phil and Mike fell out over a girl but I always thought there had to be more to it than that, since the girl in question is never even mentioned again. maybe it wasn’t that. maybe Mike just said the wrong or the stupid thing at the wrong time, having no idea it was hurtful, just as he does when he brings up Phil’s “boner” for another dude. hahaha! it’s one of those weird things Phil just does!

like, having a brother who makes fun of your hygiene and general slobbishness, that’s one thing. Having a brother who makes fun of a part of yourself you desperately want to hide –

– that’s definitely another.

@wackd @shenanigaining @theelectricorgan I want bi Phil so damn much

This makes me really curious about his fascination with Lewis – which I can put down to just Phil being Phil, but his reaction as Lewis tries his best to say ‘I Am A Gay Man’ takes on some more weight I guess? Again, so much of what he does is also just down to the fact that that’s the kind of guy he is, he goes out of his way to help people and sometimes in the process he gets directly in their way (and doesn’t seem to realize it), but he’s so adamant that Lewis and Mark get their happy ending, and maybe there’s some subconscious part of him that’s clinging to that for reasons other than helping Lewis?

(Now I kind of want a scene where Phil reveals he’s bi and Lewis is just like ‘Yep’. And Phil is all ‘I know this comes as a massive shock to you’ and Lewis takes a long breath because he sees how this is going to play out and is just like ‘Yes. Big shock. Total surprise.’)

(Also I can imagine someone who’s never watched this show looking at this gifset and not knowing the dude in the two bottom left gifs are the same dude) (The apocalypse changes people. Phil Miller became a chameleon. And embraced his sexuality.)

yes yes YES agreed SO MUCH on the Lewis thing, Phil was so excited when he found out he was gay…

I can just picture there being a scene when circumstances lead to Phil saying to the whole group something like, “We’ll never judge Lewis for wanting to bang dudes. Wanting to bang dudes is natural. I’ve wanted to bang dudes every now and again” and Lewis and Carol have to gently take him aside and explain what bisexuality is and that it actually has a name.

(Granted, this is Phil, it might take a lot of metaphors and examples before he fully understood. But then he would *epically* embrace it.)

Phil would definitely throw a pride rally consisting of just him and Lewis (Also Erica who’s pansexual/romantic.) (I also like the idea of aromantic Melissa but the show shot that horse in the face early on.) (I still like it though).

He’d be that one post that’s like ‘People always say gay people don’t just talk about being gay but it’s all I talk about’. If Crazy Ex-Girlfriend aired before the apocalypse he’d 100% sing Gettin’ Bi as a means of coming out to the whole group.

oh my gosh that would make a magnificent episode

are you listening, will forte

the last man on earth 3×08

That was funny despite the subject matter, which really is VERY bleak, even bleaker than usual-

I like that Erica and Lewis appear to be becoming friends. They probably hang out together and complain about the white people. (Well, complain about Tandy, Carol, Melissa and Gail. Todd is actually Latino and also surely no-one would actually want to complain about him)

Speaking of Todd his angry breakdown this episode was done very well, and served as a good reminder of how very decent a person (probably quite literally the nicest person on earth) he’s been the rest of the time.

I still think Tandy (yeah, I’ve given up calling him Phil. No-one’s called him Phil for ages now) is bisexual as hell and I would love it if that headcanon became reality, but I doubt it will. In the meantime here he is casually admiring another guy’s penis.

I can’t believe the Carol/Melissa friendship was tossed aside (by the writers) so easily. I’m pretty disappointed about that. :( I mean I can definitely buy that Carol began keeping her distance after Melissa nearly shot her (not to mention all her other reckless/ruthless actions) but there should have been a scene between them at some point this season and there wasn’t. There probably won’t be now either.

I don’t want Gail to die on TLMoE but if she does die, I want it to be in a different way than it looks like it’s going to be. Nothing devastates me more than a character death that could be prevented by Other Characters just having one little bit of information. Gail didn’t even die in the last episode and I was still wrecked by the fake-out of Todd rallying everyone together because of a Emergency. I knew it would be about Melissa, but I was still wrecked.

my horrible theory is that she’ll get out of the elevator all fine and dandy, go looking for the others, see Melissa, and Melissa (who I think is very far gone by now :( ) will mistake her for a threat and shoot her

and “does Gail live or die” will be the mid-series cliffhanger (But maybe she’ll live!)

I don’t know if weeks not knowing if she lives or dies is worse or not. Either way it’s just not going to be very comedic. TLMoe lied about who it is. It’s been faking this whole time It’s just here to make us feel sad.

it is a horrible foul liar of a show

But I’ve noticed it really has a big thing about dying alone vs dying with your loved ones there, and it also currently has a big “who is your family? what makes a family?” theme concentrated in Gail, so I think – she’s not gonna die alone in the elevator. That would be just too horrible. Whatever happens I think she will at least get to die around people, her makeshift family

Or I hope so
