the last man on earth

The Tandy/Mike reunion was EVERYTHING I WANTED it was beautiful. But god has anyone on this show suffered more than Mike??? And I still think there’s more to his story than he’s letting on, waaaay more, WHAT IS GOING ON. That shot at the end of him staring out the window was a rare quiet, solemn moment on this show and it hurt.

Also I don’t think Erica is really pregnant. :(

Some vague theories about where TLMOE may be going (please someone talk about this show with me)

  • I think half of Mike’s story in the promo clip actually is true and he might well have actually run into some scientists and ended up experimented on. He also has a fancy science-y van with him so where did he get that from?
  • In the episode after next “a thermal heat detector (the one in the van I guess) reveals a potential sign of life” so is this a whole lotta people? But “Tandy doesn’t want the group to split up to go investigate” and there must be a good reason for that because why wouldn’t you investigate? Because he’s learned from Mike that these people have ill intent?
  • The press release for 4×17 is really cagey but
“morbid discoveries" definitely doesn’t point to anything good
  • Is “what they actually find” a bigger group of people, scientists, doctors, all the people they actually need to restart the world properly, but they’re ruthless Mike-experimenters-upon?

I do wonder – you’re gonna have to bear with me here I’m on a roll – if the season finale (possibly the series finale) might come down to “what would you rather have, a world that’s outwardly ideal but hiding hidden rot, or a world filled with flawed, gross and messy people who happen to be your family?” And that’s possibly my favourite trope ever (just look at my love for GOTG 2!) so…

I don’t know. I know TLMOE is a comedy first and foremost (and a gleefully, relentlessly, surprisingly non-offensively lowbrow one) and I suspect if I was foolish enough to post this on Reddit I’d be bombarded with a hundred Lol It’s Not That Deep comments, but it… sometimes is that deep, right? I mean, this is a comedy built on a million bodybags. Anyway, I suppose I’ll wait it out. (Please someone talk about this show with me)

I want Mike and Erica’s reunion to be sweet and respectful. Something like, “Oh, you’re married to Gail now? And you have a baby! Well, I too am now in a relationship with [insert random name here], so it’s all good. I’m not dead!*”

That being said, I don’t think too much time will be spent on Mike/Erica. They went on a couple of dates and had one aesthetically pleasing kiss and that was it. And – god, I know how risky it is to say this these days, but – I really honestly do trust the writers. Reading interviews with them, I think they do know what they’re about and what a good thing they’ve got going here. The only really big misstep they’ve made in all the show so far is killing off Lewis, and I suppose one Big Mistake per four seasons is a pretty good ratio.

*Will not be the case if Mike turns out to be a ghost which is my other theory

based on the press releases for the next few episodes of TLMOE I’m pretty sure that Todd and Melissa are going to split up over the parenting thing. I thought that might happen because they never really resolved it, one of them wanting kids and the other not. Happens all too often unfortunately :(

erica and gail share a kiss | the last man on earth 3.16 preview

I really really hope so much this turns out to be legit and not some dream sequence or something arrrrrrggghhhh the anticipation is killing me

IMPORTANT CAVEAT: unless it turns out to be Erica or Gail’s dream sequence

IT WASN’T A DREAM! THEY REALLY ARE TOGETHER! :D :D :D :D :D

(……now we just gotta make sure Erica doesn’t die in childbirth next episode.)

hmmm all the major deaths so far on the show have tied into the concept of family:

Phil dies out of sheer misfortune, but his last words are about his baby

Mike dies of the virus, but his last act is making sure his brother won’t witness it

and Gail dies because she was trying to escape her new family, as her first one was already lost.

(granted 2/3 of these people might not be dead, or might not be dead yet, but. sadness.)
