Random Doctor Who thoughts

(hopefully S3 spoilers are vague enough?)

1) You know…Martha’s ‘So this is me, getting out’ reminds me a lot of the Ninth Doctor’s ‘This is me, swanning off!’. I wonder if they did that on purpose.

2) Have been wondering if Sally Sparrow’s journey in Blink parallels Martha’s journey across the whole series. You know, I think it does. Will ponder this.

3) You know what I would change about Doomsday? Rose gets saved from the void in the exact same way, but it’s Jackie who does it, not Pete. Would’ve rounded her story off nicely…

Doctor Who: Utopia

OH MY GOD ETC

HE’S THE MASTER I CALLED IT TWENTY MINUTES IN AND I WAS RIGHT YAY ZOMG HE’S NOT ALONE!

Ahem. Er.

So much hyperactive adoration for:

-‘Oh, she was blonde!’, and Martha’s jealousy slowly rising a little. I want so bad for Martha to meet a hologram of Rose, or something, in the finale. Coming face to face with this apparently godlike girl…

-John Simm as the regenerated Master! And he was playing it really…childlike, like all of Ten’s not-so-great qualities (the childishness, the ruthlessness…) taken to the extreme.

-Martha in general. She’s still awesome.

-JACK and his immortality angst and his apparent need to strip in dangerous situations

-The conversation between Jack and the Doctor re: immortality angst

Damn, that was brilliant.

Doctor Who: The Shakespeare Code

MARTHA IS A HARRY POTTER FAN! That gives her a billion brownie points alone.

-Liked the first Rose reference because of Martha’s reaction: it’s exactly the reaction almost anyone would have. I should really get around to writing that Martha-imagines-what-Rose-would-have-been-like fanfic. Disliked the second, although I hold out hope that it’s setting up for something else (i.e. “Martha! THAT NAME KEEPS ME FIGHTING!”)

Oh- and I loved the Doctor’s speech about missing things that were staring into his face- because who’s staring into his face then? Martha. If that’s not a hint I don’t know what is.

I loved loved loved that the Sycorax got a mention, it’s extremely obvious and yet rather clever. Also loved Martha’s (and the Doctor’s, come to that) reaction to the asylum/hospital, and the gorgeous visuals, and the rock-star take on Shakespare, and heck, just liked it overall.

EDIT for sudden thought: There was a lot of stuff in this episode about names- names giving power- was the famous Shakespeare line ‘a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet’ line in there? Because that makes Martha ‘Rose by any other name’. Hmmmm.

God, I hope JK Rowling was watching that one. :p

Doctor Who: Smith and Jones

I love Martha already: I really hope people aren’t going to be hard on her just because she’s following on from Rose. Her family look like they’re going to be fun as well, especially the dad and the girlfriend.

For some reason I really liked the very end, when Martha’s family are fighting and storming out of the pub, and Martha glances over and sees the Doctor, like he appeared out of nowhere. The blend of the ordinary and the extraordinary, again…

What else? The Saxon references were Highly Interesting, as was the ‘brother’ line; I figure they’re setting things up for the finale, maybe, and ‘Saxon’ is this year’s Bad Wolf. Liked that Rose got a brief mention, but I’m glad the Doctor didn’t spend the whole episode moping about her.

Oh, and the bendy straws were highly, highly disturbing. I’d call that very very dark humour. Brrrrr. I’m squeamish, and looked away at those points. :p

I barely even noticed the kiss. :p

Also, Outpost Gallifrey is open in another window, and there are 241 people in the rating thread right now…

I had a very very strange Doctor Who dream last night: some way or another Rose, Jackie, Martha and the Doctor ended up in the same place. First they had to take down some ogre-like monster, and Martha suceeded by feeding it banana yogurt. At some point, though, Martha got in the way of the machine-gun Rose was somehow firing, and Rose shouted “Get out of the way, you idiot!” And since through the dream I was feeling what Martha was feeling, I felt desperately embarassed. Then all the characters, apart from the Doctor who was doing something else, sat down to eat at a big table. Martha said to Rose “We got off on the wrong foot, can’t we be friends?” or something like that. Both Rose and Jackie then started utterly abusing the poor girl, which is very out of character for both of them. Then after that the Doctor came back in and delivered an impassioned speech, during which Jackie relented of her behaviour and starting holding Martha’s hand. (She was crying by this point) Then Martha pleaded to Rose once again to at least accept her, but Rose started yelling “No! I’m his companion! He chose ME! Me and me alone!” Martha said, “But what about all the other companions who came before you?” and after that, I think, I woke up.

It sounds dead funny now, but in the dream it wasn’t! Cos I was Martha all the way through, and I was being virtually tortured by Rose and sobbing my eyes out!

Perhaps a scene similar to this will show up in fanfic at some point. For now, though, I think I shall make myself some Martha icons…

Doctor Who season 3 trailer

It is AWESOME.

OMG JOHN SIMM. They did a bloody good job keeping that a secret: I went into the OG spoiler section a few times, but I wasn’t entirely convinced they’d really cast him…and there he is.

OMG JACK. Still in his Torchwood clothes!

OMG MARTHA. I love the way she says “What,” she sounds really pissed off. Although you can’t actually tell what she’s looking at in that scene…

ZOMG BIG MONSTER!

Okay, I’m done now.

Freema Agyeman is the new companion

(And…a new comm already, look! lifeonmartha)

Personally, I liked her in Army Of Ghosts (I have no idea how on earth they’ll get it to work with that, though- is Martha the alt-verse Adi?) and I actually thought it was a pity she wasn’t going to show up again. And now she is. Yay. :D

Not sure I like the name Martha, though. But if that is indeed her name, I hope episode 1 of Series 3 is called Martha, just for balance. ;)

A disturbing thought: this means The Sun was right. :0
