black panther

mrdaps:

Black Panther has arrived at Disney California Adventure in the Disneyland Resort. Accompanied by some of his warriors, King T’Challa rides aboard the Shield armored vehicle as he leaves the nation of Wakanda to come and meet guests to the Disneyland Resort. King T’Challa’s entrance begins with two armed warriors and narration that proclaims his arrival saying:

For thousands of year, the nation of Wakanda chose to hide its magnificence from the world. Those who were seduced by whispers of a technological oasis in Africa searched but found nothing, or worse, came face to face with our fierce protectors. But the time for hiding in the shadows has passed. We have come forward to share our knowledge and innovation. To take our place as a global tribe in order to make the world a better place. Welcome forth, King T’Challa, the Black Panther.

The Black Panther arrives at the Disneyland Resort on the same day that his movie of the same name hits theaters. Black Panther is receiving rave reviews and had a record $25.2 million Thursday night previews. Black Panther will be meeting guests for a limited time at Disney California Adventure. Make sure to stop by and see him. And if you can’t, DAPS MAGIC will have more photos (and potentially video) coming for you to enjoy!

I’m digging this picture (from the big MCU Infinity War photoshoot) because can you think of characters any more mismatched than Shuri and Nebula? Shuri is a scientist, Nebula is a bruiser. Shuri fixes people, Nebula kills people. Shuri has a good relationship with her sibling, Nebula… kinda does not. Shuri loved her father, Nebula hates her father. And so on.

…I hope they become weird friends.

A few more non-spoilery thoughts on Black Panther:

-How great was M’Baku? He was actually my favourite character I think. I really hope he’s back for the sequel, although I honestly can’t see how he wouldn’t be

-It’s interesting how Ross, as the movie’s only white character, acts. He comes off as a decent person but still one who obviously thinks, at least at first, that he’s smarter than the Wakandans. He’s not, and actually he comes off mostly as comic relief, which is a clear inversion of the old “we couldn’t work out what to do with our only black character so he’s the funny one” trope.

-There’s a scene with Andy Serkis and a mirror which I’m positive is a nod to Gollum, heh.

One actually spoilery thought, cut:

Since Killmonger burned all the flowers, does this mean T’Challa is going to be the last Black Panther? Or the last one with superpowers anyway. That would form an interesting subplot for the sequel in fact…

OH and a nonspoilery note on Killmonger/Eric: he’s definitely not a good person, but man oh man is he a good villain. He veers about from sympathetic to unsympathetic completely wildly and often in the same scene. Without the faintest idea how Oscar nominations work, uh, could Michael B Jordan be nominated for one

I saw Black Panther today! It was really good and also the most packed I have ever seen a movie theatre for a movie that had already been a few days in cinemas. My group actually got the last clustered seats for that showing, I think. Anyway WHAT A GREAT MOVIE, and also (cut for spoilers):

I AM SO SORRY FOR SHIPPING T’CHALLA AND ERIC. It turns out, um, they’re cousins.
