“I feel like there isn’t enough time in one lifetime to do everything I want to do. My father died not that long ago, and it was so sudden. I started keeping a list after that. Travel outside the country. Graduate college, get an advanced degree. Get married, maybe, and support my husband in style. I’m leaving the country today for school. I’m scared, but I also can’t wait. I know there’s so much out there to see. Am I rambling? Sorry. I’m waiting for my boyfriend and I’m a little nervous.”
The major silver lining I see about the Spider-Man re-re-reboot is that now Harry Osborn may now be allowed to be seen as the generous, kind, loving and yet absolutely still mentally ill person that he actually is, as opposed to the interchangable-with-his-abusive-father Gwen-killing supervillain that everyone now thinks he is

for some reason, people (myself included not too long ago) have decided that mary jane from the movies is this completely different character who that is essentially 616!gwen with another hair color and it’s just…….. not……. true……??
616!gwen didn’t come from an abusive family, didn’t put on a front so people wouldn’t get close to her and discover her weaknesses, wasn’t ambitious almost to a fault, doing whatever it took to get what she wanted career-wise and sometimes personal life-wise, wasn’t terrified of commitment because of what she’d seen at home and would leave people before they could leave her. and 616!mj did. and so did kirsten’s mj.
the only thing the previous trilogy’s mj wasn’t is flirty and upbeat, which are classic mj traits that i guess people really like?? but everything else was pretty spot on??
where are people getting that they did such an enormous 180 that she’s barely recognizable and as such should be criticized and it always needs to be pointed out how so very different she is every time she’s mentioned i just
I think, but am not entirely sure, that Someone Official (maybe even one of the Raimis) said in an interview that their MJ is MJ mixed with Gwen…
…but yeah, even if they said it, I don’t think that’s true? (I’ve kinda stopped trusting stuf that comes/came out of Marvel writer’s mouths now.) And the flirty and upbeat thing – I do honestly get why people would miss those traits in her, but you do see them a bit in the first movie, and it makes a lot of sense for MJ in this particular verse to be a bit less upbeat anyway? She doesn’t have Aunt Anna, her acting career is on a more realistic trajectory than it was in the comics, she keeps getting kidnapped…
I think MJ’s such a fabulous character in whatever verse she’s in, because she has these wonderfully human traits universal to all her portrayals – survival, ambition, determination -and theyensure that she’s always interesting. God, I know you and me both wish more people thought so but OH MY GOD MORE PEOPLE SHOULD THINK SO
According to this article on Marvel.com, he displays symptoms of it…..assuming we’re meant to take that series of articles seriously. And I’ll be a bit annoyed if we’re not. >:( It does seem plausible though?
