Nicole Marshall, a 22-year-old mother of a 3-year-old girl, died in custody on Tuesday, May 10.
According to Marshall’s family she was in a serious car accident on April, where her car rolled over multiple times.
However, she wasn’t taken to the hospital. Instead the police took her
to the Walker County Jail in Huntsville, Texas.
Symone’s sister, Honey, said:
“When I talked to her from jail, she complained that her head was hurting and she kept blacking out. I called the jail several times and requested for them to take her to a real hospital and they wouldn’t do so. If they would have this, her death could have been prevented and my sister would still be here. My heart hurts so bad. She was my best friend. I am so angry that they did this to her. She moved to Texas for a fresh start in life a few months ago. She was doing good down there, had a job and was about to buy a house. She’s a beautiful person, never been in trouble before and didn’t deserve this.”
Texas police and Walker County jail officials refused to comment or release information about the accident.
Marshall’s family hasn’t been able to get details from officials either.
Natasha McKenna, Sandra Bland, Gynnya McMillen and now Symone Marshall. We can’t take this anymore…We want justice!
First of all, watch the above video. It’s a walkthrough of the facility I’m about to talk about so you know it’s legit. Also, here’s their Facebook page for a lot more pictures of their kitties.
I did not create the sanctuary, but I’ve visited their facility before and it’s been on my heart ever since.
Now, onto the ugly business. Now, since I’m on their e-news list, I just got an upsetting e-mail from Catmandu, the amazing cat sanctuary above, saying they have to close because they are entirely supported by donations and have not been getting enough to keep their doors open:
Catmandu has closed the gates and is not taking in any more cats or
kittens at this time. Unless Carson City and the surrounding communities
open their wallets and start providing support, the facility will
likely not re-open.
Catmandu has been providing the bulk of services for cats in this area
(340 adoptions in 2015), yet it receives no money from the city, state,
or government. Nor does it receive grant-funding from large
organizations such as PetSmart or Maddie’s Fund. Catmandu relies solely
on donations from individuals and businesses within the community for
our existence.
In 2015, we found good homes for 340 cats and kittens and helped
numerous others in the community. Our annual budget was less than $65K.
By comparison, Nevada Humane Society (NHS) in Carson City receives $700K
in tax dollars from the city each year for their services; plus
significant income from grants, donations, and fundraisers.
With the opening of the new, tax-funded NHS animal shelter on Butti Way
in September, donations from animal lovers have been flowing to NHS
leaving only a trickle for Catmandu. Even so the majority of cats have
still been coming to Catmandu.
We are not just another shelter. Our cats live in a homey, cage free
environ designed to meet their needs. Located in a former day-care
center, Catmandu provides a cage-free group home environment that heals
and rehabilitates the kitties who come to us. A frightened, stressed cat
comes in; a happy, trusting, and calmer cat leaves.
If you want to have Catmandu continue helping the cats of Carson City, Douglas, and Lyon counties; please make a donation at http://www.catmanducc.org/donate.html to send a check to Catmandu, 1829 Brown St., Carson City, NV 89701.
To learn more about us, visit the catmanducc.org
web site for a virtual tour and our story. If you believe in our
concept, please help. We want to keep operating, but we need capital to
keep our doors open. Without community support, we simply cannot
continue to exist.
If 500 people donate just $20 each month, we can stay open and keep
helping the cats. Do we stay or do we go? The answer depends on you.
The bolding emphasis is my own. One of the best things about Catmandu is their cage-free facility and the thought of losing such an innovative place for kitties waiting for their forever homes is utterly heartbreaking.
See that box with the door propped open by the cat scratcher in the background? That’s called a kitty condo. It’s a two-level, custom built housing. There are several of these at Catmandu where cats can temporarily be placed if needed (i.e. newbie, in need of medication, too scared to be near other cats…) but this is rare. Usually the condos are left open for cats to walk in and out of freely, in addition to roaming the remainder of the facility.
The furnishings are set up strategically for both cats and humans. See the dresser draws on the walls? Those are for cats to climb in and sit, sleep, hide, etc… There are also dressers, shelves, tubes (note the red blanket covered section atop the condos), and blankets for the cats’ comfort. There are also chairs and couches for visitors and volunteers to meet cats, pet, and play with them.
Now check out the catios:
In order to give the Catmandu kitties a safe place to enjoy the fresh air and sunlight, volunteers built enclosed cat patios onto the windows so cats can move in and out freely. (And per this post on Facebook, they are willing to build catios for interested parties.) Cool way to make an indoor cat happy, yes?
Right now it’s the middle of “kitten season,” when Catmandu is inundated with stray kittens. In past years they’ve taken in terribly ill stray kittens, rehabilitated them, and socialized them into adopt able forever friends. For example, a year or two ago several kittens were rescued from a junkyard and came in with eye infections and respiratory issues. The pictures were pretty disturbing, yet many grew into wonderful pets were adopted thanks to Catmandu’s hard work. In other words:
The donation link above takes you to their general donation page, but there are two specific options:
You can also select Carson City Cares as your community rewards location (you do not have to live in or near Carson City to choose them) on your Smith’s card and as your Amazon Smile non-profit charity. This doesn’t cost you anything. If you have Carson City Cares selected as your Smith’s charity, Smith’s donates money based on your purchases to your choice charity as long as you swipe your rewards card. (And you still earn the same rewards and fuel points as normal. It costs you literally nothing.) The same goes for Amazon Smile – the only catch with Amazon Smile is you have to remember to make your normal Amazon purchases using the Amazon Smile link, which is just http://smile.amazon.com/ (after you’ve gone into your account and picked a designated non-profit).
If the Catmandu rescue–and kitties in general–touches your heart the way it does mine, please donate!
Seriously: check out their official site, Facebook, and watch that video at the top of this post. (All of the pictures I’ve posted come from either their site or their Facebook.) The work Catmandu does is precious.
If you cannot donate (and I understand plenty of people might want to but simply can’t afford to, I’ve been there too), please Signal Boost!
Much love for any help–word of mouth and/or donation(s)–you can provide. Being a Ginormous Cat Lover, it’s heart wrenching to see a cat sanctuary go under.
hey so if you didn’t already know i run a blog calledemergencycommissionsfor artists/writers who are really in need of the money, whether it be for affording medication, paying bills, making rent, whatever.
It would be really great if you could follow/signal boost the blog because it
has the potential to be a great resource but only has a handful followers right now
Hello, I’m LJ and I have momentarily taken over Meg’s blog because she is too sick right now to do this for herself. Anyway, Meg is the sweetest kid you will ever meet. Just take a look at this blog and you will see all the good she does. This incredible young girl is fighting for her life and it’s up to us to help her. She’s 17; a child. No child deserves this kind of suffering. A while ago another fundraiser was being run for her, but it was outdated so this is the new one. The difference is that on this website, they only give you 30 days to earn as much as possible before the fundraiser expires so we really need to get as much support as possible. The details of Meg’s story are on the fundraiser page but basically, she needs surgery to her brain, spine and spinal cord; huge surgery only performed by American surgeons. Meg is English. Unfortunately this means that huge costs accompany the procedure and despite already raising a lot of money, there is still a bit of a way to go. Please help her by reblogging and donating. You can donate from almost anywhere in the world and even if you donate just £5, it will help give Meg the chance to grow up and live her life. She deserves this, her brother deserves this. She is always so strong and is there for everyone but now it is time for us to be there for her.
With your help, she can live to see tomorrow. Thank you.
Guys, I’m begging you. If you CAN and have some extra money, PLEASE donate! I know this girl from a group chat and she really needs help ASAP. she will die without your help, so PLEASE . every dollar helps
Matthew is 22 years old, teaches karate to little kids
puts ketchup on his eggs
and Matthew has stage II colon cancer. He’s currently on Chemotherapy and needs your help.
Matthew
just completed his first round of chemotherapy and the symptoms are
starting to arise. loss of hair, weightloss and bruises on his skin. As a
friend it’s very hard to watch someone who could kick literal butt go
through this.
I can’t even imagine how hard it is on him.
Matthew
is struggling, he’s already $30,000 in debt and this is his first
treatment with at least 5 more to go. To make things worse Matthew
isn’t getting any support from his family. Matthew recently came out to
them and he’s been disowned by his family and church, just for being
who he is. Kicked to the curb and relying on friends for a place to
sleep, and now it could also kill him, without the financial support he
needs he can’t afford the treatments necessary to save his life.
Insurance only pays for so much and experimental treatments aren’t
covered.
My name is Adam, and I love Matthew.
He’s homeless and
now not getting the treatment he needs because of me. Matt came out to
his family and he did it for me and now he’s living from couch to couch
while working three jobs all to pay for medical treatment he needs. His dad told him he has cancer because of his lifestyle and it’s God’s punishment. I think Matt believes him. Matt strips at night and makes good money doing this but It’s hard on his body and he gets weak easily now. He can’t teach Karate anymore as the chemo has made his cartilage weak, he has a dislocated rib now.
He needs your help, I need your help. I can’t live without him and he’s too good for all this bad to happen to him.
Please,
please, share this, donate what you can, anything and every little
thing you can do helps. Every penny will go to treatment and anything
left over will go to cancer research if we reach our goal. Were
expecting another $60-80,000 in medical treatment. Any left over
proceeds will be donated to The Children’s Cancer Research Fund. http://www.childrenscancer.org/
Please, no amount is too small, a few cents can make a difference.
My current accommodation is set to expire in two weeks’ time on 01/06/16 and an extension may not be granted. I have a neurological condition which leaves me bedbound
(medical reports) and being homeless would put me in grave danger. So I desperately need my government housing application to be successful. There’s a $500/week instalment for home care I need to pay to meet the assessment criteria (see details + invoices). I also need to pay $200/week to my paramedic so that so that I can access transport when it comes time to move.
Apart from these, I would like to meet $200 + $50 + $50 in weekly instalments to three other home care agencies for invoices incurred in 2015, to avoid formal debt collection procedures.
I only receive
$285/week in social security payments so I would appreciate some help with these expenses. Donations can be made at this link (PayPal account not required), at this second link (PayPal account required; no fee for PayPal balance transfers), or to romana2252@gmail.com if PayPal.me is unavailable. Thank you all for your support!!
I’ve visited Angie a number of times over the past year and a half, and if anyone was in any doubt of her sincerity regarding this situation then I can assure you things really are as difficult as she has indicated in her posts.
In Australia we’d like to think our healthcare system is comprehensive and accessible to anyone, but this is far from the truth and honestly Angie has been faced with ridiculous barriers to accessing the quality care she requires.
The money you guys have donated so far has helped immensely, but her situation is still dangerously unstable.
If you can spare anything please donate! Angie is incredibly deserving of your generosity and I want nothing more than to see her finally reach a place where she can feel safe and secure.
good morning everyone, please share this and please consider donating. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, if each of us were to donate just one dollar/pound/euro/whatever, we’d be able to raise the money she needs in no time. please help her avoid being left homeless!

But if you can help, even a little bit. Please consider sending anything to my paypal, teapotsx3@aim.com

My head hurts, I’m very busy with promotional stuff for Star Wars Fans For Jake, I can’t seem to sell any of my stuff and this news that we cant pay rent and had to lie about it is putting me on edge.
Please please please consider commissioning me for photoshop edits, I am very chill and fast and am willing to change stuff if you don’t like it, I also make book covers.
I really really don’t like being late on rent, really, and the fact that we had to lie to the landlord makes me very upset, I’m commission-y and if you can, you can donate to paypal: teapotsx3@aim.com
Please please please help me, commission me, donate, signal boost, We’re going to be like a week or more late on rent and we’re out like 80$ from when my mom took a half day on Friday because she didn’t feel good.
The sooner we can pay our rent, the better, I really don’t like making the landlord wait and my mom doesn’t get paid for another two weeks!
Please please help if you are able too, If I don’t find a way to get some money soon I’m not going to be able to eat tonight
Rent just came out and we’re lower than ever, Pay day isn’t for another three weeks! D: I’m always available for edits/graphics commissions and whatever!!!!!
i’m incredibly sad, really discouraged and bummed out about everything, we have very little food, no money, i’m worried about my mom’s stressing about everything, i can’t find any hiring locations, i don’t have a car, or money for the bus, I’m hungry, I’m tired, all our stuff is breaking and we can’t replace it.
Please boost this, help me get commissions and work, I desperately need help.
Hey all you lovely people who have periods, the world is starting to look a little bit brighter now that certain tampon/pad companies have started to allow people to receive small kits and samples of pads, maxi pads, liner, and tampons for free. And I mean 100% free and discreet. You just have to give them your address and name, and bam! You’ve got all the menstrual cycle products you could ever need for no cost. Links below!
This is useful for lots of friends! So that way Your parent’s won’t treat you like a crazy person if they find out! or if money’s tight! Or if you just need some damn pads/tampons! or if you have nervousness purchasing them! it’s okay now, these links can help!
I’m requesting some help to raise another $387 for my weekly rent of $490, which is due by the end of tomorrow (16/5/16 – AEST timezone). Unfortunately I can’t afford this myself as I currently only receive
neurological condition that leaves me bedbound (medical reports), so it’s also impossible to move into a cheaper shared accommodation due to inaccessibility & discrimination, and it’s unlikely I can compete for a rental property with my low income.
The manager at my current accommodation would like me to leave asap – the last date at my place is set at 1st June and I’m unsure whether an extension to this is even possible. So I desperately need my government housing application (incl. temp housing) to be successful. A disability-related requirement is that I have access to ongoing home care to maintain an apartment. I need to pay $500 by Thursday 19th May to my home care agency for some outstanding invoices (see details). I also need to maintain a $200/week payment plan to my private paramedic service so that I can have transport when it comes time to move.
I would really appreciate some help with these expenses, I know I’ve had this fundraiser for a while now and getting government subsidised housing will significantly reduce the amount of assistance I need. Please consider making a donation at this link (no PayPal account needed), at this second link (PayPal account required; no fee for PayPal balance transfers), or to romana2252@gmail.com in countries where PayPal.me is unavailable. Thank you all for your support!!
Hey guys! Please donate to Angie if you can. She’s a close friend of mine. It’s a dire situation and she deserves compassion and a roof over her head. Any amount helps, even a dollar or two. It all adds up. Please help keep her safe!
