I hope random brands turn their logo rainbow for no goddamn reason. I hope they do it even if its a desperate bid to seem supportive. I dont fucking care if its shallow. Bud light made a limited edition rainbow can and white men with big trucks took machine guns on them. Target runs a line of admittedly cringe rainbow merchandise and is the subject of domestic terrorism. A random company going rainbow for a month is shallow but its showing the people that want to kill us that they can’t win. The pride flag will be everywhere and itll piss them off and theres nothing they can do about it. No matter how much violence and hatred they dish out, they’ll be too many goddamn companies to boycott, to threaten. You dont have to buy shit from them, just use rainbow capitalism against them.

“I love the conversation with the younger generation. I love the idea that whatever gender, sexuality, the fluidity of who you love, how you identify, is not fixed,” explained the actor, who currently has rainbow Pride and trans Pride flag emojis included in his Twitter bio.

“That was always a thing: if I declare who I am and my sexuality, then I’m saying it’s fixed and I don’t know that, or if I might feel something for somebody further down the line. I doubt it, but I don’t know.

“It’s more relaxed now. As a writer and producer, I do wonder if anybody has to be defined by who they’re in love with.”

I think everyone needs to start posting about how many people have been coming out in solidarity with trans people everywhere in the US especially in vulnerable states, because I’m really touched by what happened at the University of Iowa. These kids shut it down because it’s not just a youtube bigot on their campus it’s so much bigger than that! This is huge

People ARE coming out and packing courthouses and protesting on campuses and in the middle of your town and city in defense of trans people in great numbers. Very few people attended this loser’s speech and were publicly shamed for it. There are literally more of us than there are of them and I think we need to keep saying that

Leicester vigil for Brianna Ghey

I came away with it with some anger because of all the hecklers who went past and shouted things. I overheard some guy shouting “Protesting doesn’t work!” obviously trying to pick a fight, some lads outside the crowd clapping sarcastically, and some absolute asshole walking past screaming “TRANS WOMEN CAN’T HAVE CHILDREN,” and continuing to scream it even as he was roughly turned away. Wtf?!

I heard a bottle was thrown at one point, I didn’t see it but holy fuck. I hope it was a plastic bottle and not a glass one?!

Many of the speeches were also drowned out by a guy down the road preaching religion with a very loud sound system. I have no idea if he was doing it on purpose, he did stop eventually, but it did rather feel like he was doing it on purpose.

As usual, it’s absolutely absurd and obscene that trans people have to put up with this. The actual memorial is beautiful but it should never have had to exist.

Okay

So

I’m a non-binary transgender person in Scotland.

If you don’t know what I’m about to talk about, let me tell you.

> (this is to space out the text for anyone who struggles to read big blocks of things, like me)

The SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT passed a law that let’s 16 year olds self identify their gender.

The law would have gender dysphoria not be something that you need to be diagnosed by a Doctor.

A transgender person would only have to wait 3 months and *not* 2 years to have lived as their preferred gender.

This law has not been put in place yet.

And it might never.

>

BECAUSE LONDON’S GOVERNMENT DECIDED TO NOT ALLOW THE BILL.

Their ‘reasons’ for this include:

• They do not believe 16 years old have the capability to understand what they want to do with their bodies

• They believe people could use the identity of being a Transgender Woman to harm Women in public places/single sex places

• They believe that Immigrants could come to the United Kingdom and harm Women in public places/single sex places

• This law could conflict with the laws of the United Kingdom

>

Now my REASONS for being angry, for thinking this argument is completely foolish, is as follows:

• Within the United Kingdom, 16 year olds are trusted with their bodies when it comes to; Being a soldier, having sex and having children

• If this argument of “these group of people could harm our women” doesn’t sound familiar, then look into any part of history that involve people being discriminated against, it isn’t that hard to find

• If the London Government worry so much for people of the female sex, THEN GET BETTER SECURITY. DO NOT BLAME THE CRIMES OF CRUEL PERVERTS WHO WANT POWER OVER SOMEONE, ON ENTIRE GROUPS OF PEOPLE

• “This law could conflict with the laws of the United Kingdom” Dude. WE, AS IN THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT, **VOTED DEMOCRATICALLY** TO HAVE THIS LAW PASS **IN SCOTLAND!!!** NOT ANYWHERE ELSE! Y’all can handle your own laws, just keep your hands off ours

>

They are fools.

Simply because they have demonstrated many things that is more telling of themselves than anyone else:

• They will use whatever *excuses* they want to have things go their way (not surprising in government but also yes it surprised me)

• The London Government abused it’s apparent ‘equal power with Scotland’ to tell us that they can and will, in fact, take away the laws we pass for their liking

• They have shown to be Transphobic, Racist and Sexist (towards people born Male and Female)

• This is not democracy

• This is OR SHOULD BE illegal, they did not vote on this, they just said “no”

• And the thing the London/England Government fear the most; this will *definitely*, if they do not undo this or ‘at least’ come to an agreement; DEFINITELY make us Scots want to be *independent* from them

>

Thank you for reading this far.

I’ve never done such a long post about such a serious topic before.

To all the Scots, the English and Trans people reading this who are also angry, upset or even scared of this situation; know this, have faith and fight for this law. I am fighting for the law we pass to be returned. I hope it does, so that it can be a domino affect and get this bill talked about for the rest of the United Kingdom, where it could be treated with Democracy instead of all this bullshit.

Anyone who is outside of the United Kingdom, thank you again for taking the time to read this.

All of you have my internet hugs x

If you agree that this bill should not have been passed, if you agree with the reasons the London Government gave

LOL Leave my tumblr and never come back.

I’ve seen some coverage on this that noted that the exact mechanism the UK government used to block the bill, Section 35 of the Scotland Act, which is the law establishing (or re-establishing, depending on how pro-independence you are) the Scottish Parliament, has not once been triggered prior to this. The law came into effect in 1998, so that’s 25 years of Westminster more or less letting Scotland get on with it. But the Tories decided after careful consideration that this is the matter that they are going to overrule the devolved Scottish government on.

I cannot overstate how monstrously transphobic this is. How supremely undemocratic. Scotland’s gender recognition bill has been in discussion and debate for something like eight years up to this point. It was passed with an overwhelming majority. But transphobia is a culture war issue in England, and it’s been clear where the Tories stand for ages. They can’t let Scotland go its own way. They can’t let trans people exist without medicalization and mountains of red tape.

I’m not a UK citizen. I’m an American. But transphobes in the UK and transphobes in the US frequently compare notes, and they definitely sit at the same table. Every transphobic law that we can defeat on either side of the pond is a win for equality, and if we can punish a transphobic politician, government, or public figure through protest, through voting, or through direct action, we have a responsibility to do so.

Keep fighting, Scotland

this is inspiring weirdly complex emotions in me. like, it’s the fucking 1930s. I can hear the mid-atlantic newsreel voice. the fact that it plays coy with why he knows so much about women’s hairstyles, but like, as a funny surprise, not as shock and horror. the fact that it never deadnames him or uses incorrect pronouns. the fact that he looks like Mickey Rooney. idk it’s just making me feel feelings.

Forced to Undress

Scotland passed the Gender Recognition Reform Bill the other day and British Twitter, very predictably, exploded in hatred. One tweet that stood out to me is this one:

“I believe every women who voted this through should be forced to undress in a changing room with a trans women.”

An interesting word, that “forced.” (HMS_Ark_Royal has yet to respond to my question about how, exactly, they plan to force me and women like me to undress in front of strangers.) You see, forcing a woman to strip is an act of sexual assault, and I am intrigued as to why this individual thinks sexual assault is a fitting punishment/trial for anybody of any gender.

“But the government is going to MAKE people change in trans-inclusive changing rooms where they will see GENITALS! THAT’S sexual violence! THAT’S what we mean!” Except, that’s not how public changing rooms work. Or public toilets for women. I (cis woman) have been using public toilets and dressing rooms since a very young age and I have never seen a single genital in any of them. Here, I drew you a diagram.

If someone is trying to force their way into one of the private booths, they are a sex offender REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THEY’RE TRANS OR NOT, REGARDLESS OF WHAT GENDER BATHROOM THEY’RE USING. Oh and yes, “I just forced my way in to check whether they had a vagina or a penis!” counts as well, I’m afraid.

Gender neutral bathrooms are already the norm for a HUGE selection of the British population, and I’ve shared crowded public bathrooms with trans women many a time. Probably without even noticing in some cases. Apparently that’s bad, but wanting women to be be forced to strip is just fine, right?

Little bit of projection going on there I think.
