Les Miserables: A Song For Everyone
(A new fanmix idea I’m taking out on the road – one song for each character. Has it been done before? Almost definitely. But not by me!)
(…yes I am aware there was a musical…)

Headcanon: There were a number of instances where Grantaire managed to sneak Feuilly into some of his art lectures with him provided he “sit down, be quiet, just don’t get noticed.”
Because Grantaire knows how much Feuilly would give for a university education, and even though he can’t give him that he still wants him to at least have some kind of experience of it.
RED ALERT RED ALERT
micaela and i were just going through the french originals of les mis and
it turns out “enjolras’ smiled was not completed” when he died more accurately colloquialistically translates to “enjolras’ smile had not been achieved” when he was shot
do you know what this means
do you know what this FUCKING means
enjolras had only begun smiling at grantaire when he was shot, he didn’t turn afterwards to face the soldiers or brace himself
enjolras died mid-smiling at grantaire
grantaire
was the last thing
enjolras ever saw
From what I take from “had not been achieved” it also means he never actually quite smiled. He was about to, but never did.
So maybe Grantaire saw the corners of his lips quirk, just slightly, but died before he could actually see his smile.
The last thing Enjolras tried to do before he died was smile at Grantaire. The last action he ever took – to start to smile.Whoops I made myself sad.
Obvs it’s kind of up to interpretation (hi I’m the Micaela mentioned above) but considering Enjolras presses his hand “en souriant” I’m pretty sure he is in fact in the action of smiling—he never hits full smile capacity but there is definitely smiling going on, he is mid-action
I feel like giving a shout-out to the Grantaire sub-fandom, just because (unless there’s stuff I’ve missed, which is always possible) everyone always seems absolutely willing to consider different interpretations, and everyone’s always dead careful to not excuse him for the bad/misogynist things he does, while at the same time giving loads of attention to his mental health issues and his non-straight-ness (is that even a word? Is this making any sense?) and basically THERE’S ALL THIS ANALYSING AND CLEVERNESS AND RESPECTING WHAT HE REPRESENTS IN THE STORY and I just really dig it you guys

The garden at Rue Plumet
There’s so much I love about this— an Eponine who’s really in tatters, the implied ignorance of Marius and Cosette in their little garden— but I think what’s really standing out for me here is the fence, laying its ornamental circles over the lovers’ faces. It reminds me of those touristy photo-frame things, where anyone can put their faces into the scene and pretend to be part of it, and it’s so obvious that’s what Eponine’s doing. What an excellent concept!
