Pride and sadness flooded Qui-Gon as he pictured Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. He looked forward to the day that the two of them would work side by side as Jedi Knights, but with this thought no image came.
ya know I like Xanatos as a character and I love making fun of him, but as a person let’s face it he was even more of an entitled white boy than Kylo Ren was
He bent over and stared at the floor, his heart racing as though he’d just fought a battle. He gulped down his panic, but he could not make it go away. Instead it rose in his throat again and again, choking him.
He heard footsteps approach him, then pause. He recognized Qui-Gon’s step.
No. Don’t let him see me this way.
He struggled to compose himself but the panic was too real. The fear squeezed his throat, cramped his muscles. He could not move.
He saw Qui-Gon’s boots stop in front of him. Then, to his surprise, the large man crouched next to him. His voice was close to his ear.
“It is all right, Obi-Wan,” Qui-Gon said gently, “I understand.”
Obi-Wan shook his head. Qui-Gon could not possibly understand.
“Never fear your feelings, Obi-Wan,” Qui-Gon said. “They can guide you if you control them.”
“I – I can’t,” Obi-Wan forced the words out. How he hated to admit his weakness to Qui-Gon! But he could not lie.
“Yes, you can,” Qui-Gon said with the same gentleness, “I know you can. You are a Jedi. You will focus. You will reach your calm center. Do not try to tamp down the fear. Do not let it grip you. If you let it move through you, it will leave you. Breathe.”
Obi-Wan breathed. A tiny part of the panic loosened its grip. He breathed again, and felt the fear rise. This time he did not battle it. He pictured it rising on his breath, leaving his body. His muscles loosened slightly
“We will rescue Bant,” Qui-Gon continued. “We will defeat Xanatos. We will bring him down.”
The panic was lessening. But not the shame.
“I hurt her.” The words were jerky, forced out on a hiccup of air. “I made her run away.”
“Ah.” Qui-Gon paused. “Did you send her to Xanatos? Speaking sharply to a friend is wrong, Obi-Wan. It is cause for an apology. But it is not cause to be responsible for what happens afterwards. Bant knows that. Her kidnapping is not your fault, and she would be the first to say so. She knows she should not use the water tunnels alone.”
Obi-Wan kept his eyes on the floor. He grabbed onto Qui-Gon’s calmness like a raft. He strove to find it within himself. He knew that Qui-Gon was frantic to find Bant, was full of anxiety to rid the temple of Xanatos. Yet Qui-Gon crouched next to him, perfectly willing to wait out his panic.
“You want to return to the Jedi,” Qui-Gon continued. “Now be a Jedi. This is the moment. This is exactly the moment when you must. The very worst time is the time you must follow the Code. Cast away you doubt. Let the Force flow through you.”
Obi-Wan lifted his head and met Qui-Gon’s steady gaze. Now he could feel the Force move between them, gather itself and surround them. He knew that together they could defeat Xanatos. He was able to cast doubt aside and believe.
Qui-Gon saw the change in his face. “Are you ready?”
Obi-Wan nodded.

@aimeecarignan asked about the part in JA when Qui-Gon talks Obi-Wan through a panic attack. In the context of what happens in the books before this, it’s a really poignant scene for their relationship.
I finally read the Jedi Apprentice series (if you are a Star Wars fan/Obi-Wan fan GO READ THEM its worth it) and so I thought I’d post my thoughts on the little things I love about the series:
-Obi-Wan has apparently always been a little sassafras (soooo much sass and salt)
– The sheer level of “give no f*cks” Qui-Gon has reached
-The friendship with Obi-Wan, Bant, Garen, and Reeft
-Little Obi has too many problems
-Xanatos “I burned a hole in my face for the aestheitc” du Crion
-Basically the entire Melida/Daan story arc hoo boy
-How often Qui-Gon uses mind tricks
-TAHL AND QUI-GON ARE IN LOVE
-Obi-Wan’s New Alien Friend™ every book
-How “amusement” apparently equals “dragging my 16 year old padawan out at the crack of dawn to go climb a treacherous mountain populated by bloodthirsty beasts” in Qui-Gon speak
-Obi-Wan’s sweet tooth
-That Qui-Gon literally said “I don’t need a plan” at one point
-Obi-Wan giving his lightsaber to Qui-Gon- his life and trust
-When Qui-Gon was complaining about how reckless Obi-Wan had been disobeying orders and Adi Gallia was just like “yeah you taught him well”
-How the Jinn/Kenobi team gets into awful trouble EVERY SINGLE TIME even when they just go visit a friend or something
-The bounty hunter with the whip
-The fact that there was actually a decent amount of well written and interesting female characters
-”Qui-Gon is tall” jokes
-Obi’s “My place is by your side” line
-That one time when Obi-Wan was injured so Qui-Gon just picked him up bridal style and ran off with him (not even kidding)
-Even though the writing is pretty simplistic, it will still hit you with a boatload of feels
-Like when Qui-Gon was meditating about Obi-Wan and was sad and confused when he couldn’t see a vision of them working together as Jedi Knights
-New alien species!
-”In the life of a Jedi, things seldom go according to plan.”
-The flashback special books when we get to see padawan Anakin too
-When Obi-Wan said “Jedi do not threaten. We inform” to Anakin when literally 10 seconds earlier he was like- get tf over here and talk or I’ll blow you out of the sky
So I’ve gained a bunch of new followers over the past couple of days, and I’m excited that you’re here :) I meant to post a proper lineup after I drew something with Tahl, but here they are, Tahl included!
Their Importance: Jedi KnightTahl is a main character in the much-loved YA Star Wars series Jedi Apprentice. She’s a Noorian, a human species in the Star Wars universe who have dark skin and striped eyes. (Hers are striped green and gold.) When we first meet her, she’s recently been blinded in battle and must adjust to her disability using an assistance droid. This isn’t always easy for her, but like any Jedi she remains calm about it. At one point, she uses a metaphor about broken artwork to explain her blindness: “You see the seams of the break, but the piece is still flawless. Because it had once been broken, it becomes more valuable than before.”
Issues: (spoilers!) What with Jedi Apprentice being a prequel (heck, a prequel to a prequel) Tahl’s death is perhaps inevitable. She dies after she and Qui-Gon confess their love for each other, causing him to nearly turn to the Dark Side. Her death probably counts as a fridging to be honest, although she’s still mentioned a lot in the books after she dies. I like to think she’s who Qui-Gon was thinking of in The Phantom Menace when Anakin says “No-one can kill a Jedi” and he answers “I wish that were so.”
