gotg2 spoilers

So, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 kind of maybe owns my soul a little bit now? Here’s a fanfic filling in some blanks.

Title: Goodnight
Fandom: Guardians of the Galaxy
Rating: PG13 maybe? There’s nothing in here worse than in the movie
Summary:

“And Darth Vader… I suppose he can’t stand the idea of a world where people like him and the Emperor live and people like Luke Skywalker die. So he picks up the Emperor and kills him, so that Luke can survive, even though it kills him too. And all these little teddy bear things that live on the moon below the Emperor’s Death Star, I forgot to mention all of that, they have a big party with fireworks and stuff.”

Peter and his family before, during and after the funeral.

dynamicsymmetry:

When Peter says “you shouldn’t have killed my mom and squished my Walkman” IT FUCKING WRECKED ME because it’s not a goddamn laugh line, or that’s not how I heard it. It’s the kind of thing a little kid says. In that moment Peter Quill was a scared, angry little boy who wanted to stop the evil lying bully who took everything wonderful away from him, and he did, with his family, and I definitely wasn’t crying at all at any point, shut up.

The importance of tone in GOTG Vol. 2

katiekeysburg:

Tone :
the general character or attitude of a place, piece of writing, situation, etc.

We’ve all seen movies or read books that get their tone wrong.  They feel subtly off or wrong somehow.  Do it wrong, and every twist or revelation in your story feel wrong too, straining the audience’s disbelief.  Done correctly, manipulations of tone are barely perceptible but absolutely necessary to support dramatic character arcs.

One of my favorite parts of the movie was its subtle manipulation in tone, particularly in the second act.

“I can’t decide what’s worse, him thinking that impregnating Meredith for his own selfish ends is a gift, or that he credits Peter with gifting Gamora her “freedom” when she had it well in hand. All along Ego’s misogynistic microaggressions hint at what lays beneath. ”

….oh dang that’s a really good point

It’s actually occurred to me that Peter’s storyline in GOTG2 is, I think, sort of more the storyline female characters usually get? Like, he gets manipulated, gets his autonomy violated, survives only via the death of a loved one which causes him serious pain, and ends the movie in a parental role. (Oh, and he has a wonderfully gratuitous shirtless scene)

silversoulwithlove:

Wow, I can’t wait for people to start calling Star Lord a Mary sue for being able to take on his dad that had a over millions of years to hone his space magic energy while star Lord litteraly had like ¾ days at most, and was able to hold him off decently.

Like how Rey was called a Mary sue for being able to kinda use a light saber in one fight, that resembles her weapon that she’s been fighting and defending herself with for years, her staff, and could do some force stuff.

I can’t wait for all the think pieces written by men as to why Peter Quill is a Mary sue and unworthy of our time and praise, and how you liking him means you support shit writing.

—On the real though guardians of the galaxy vol. 2 was super good and fun, and if you haven’t seen it go see it.
