the last man on earth

last man on earth

I miss Lewis.

I bet the figure in the woods is Pamela, but it would be just like this show to have it be someone completely new. Or Mark. It would be JUST LIKE this show to have it be Mark.

I’m not remotely counting on the portrayal of Melissa’s mental illness to be realistic, but it is sympathetic, which I remain very glad about

Was that pond they went back to the same pond where they found the fish? Where IS the fish? And the calf and the worm, come to think of it? This show has a very odd habit of introducing important animals and then forgetting about them (which does not bode well for Jeremy the dog.)

I’m gonna ask Will Forte on twitter if Tandy is bisexual, once I pluck up the courage

a final tlmoe thought: In amongst all the Jon Hamm-murdering chaos of that episode, was it ever confirmed that it really was Pat and co who had been sending the drones? Because it would be a real left-field twist if it turned out to be someone else, like these ‘bunker people’ who keep coming up

wait I got this right! noice

I was thinking of doing a gifset (or more likely several gifsets) about various TLMOE character’s outfits as there are plenty I LOVE, and I realised that Phil very frequently seems to wear shirts that hint towards what’s going to happen/is happening

Like, on The Open Ended Nature of Unwitnessed Death, the episode all about leaving messages, he’s wearing a shirt with a messenger pigeon on it

And during the most recent episode he’s first wearing a shirt featuring caged birds flying away, which seems to be a thing which symbolises death a lot??? And at the end of the episode he’s wearing a stylised sunset because everything is mostly hopeless and awful

Well done costume department, if that was your intention, or I suppose even if it was not

tlmoedaily:

Will Forte on Sunday’s shocking (and incredibly depressing) death.

Well, I was nearly right. If Ken Choi was leaving anyway, whhhhhy couldn’t they have stuck with the first idea? :(

Mike Miler/Erica (or one of ’em on their own!) + photograph

starklinqs:

“And this is my first ever mugshot!” Erica proclaimed, proudly showing Mike the framed photo in the kitchen.

“I know you said they’re oblivious, but wouldn’t the rest of the group wonder why you have a -” Mike started, only to be interrupted by Phil walking by.

Hey, broski, looking at Erica’s fun little Halloween picture, huh? She has a bunch of Halloween stuff just lying about – a jumpsuit, broken handcuffs, really committing to her costume,” Phil laughed, and he leaned in and fake whispered to Mike: “Between you and me, I’d say Erica has been in jail this whole time!” He laughed, slapping Mike on the back and grabbing a danish from the counter before disappearing down the hall.

Mike looked back at Erica, who was looking back at him with a raised a eyebrow and a “you see what I mean?” look on her face.

“Yeah I get it now,” Mike said, and he raised his cup. “To their obliviousness.”

Erica giggled and raised her cup as well. “To their obliviousness.”

Send me a character + prompt and I’ll write a 3 sentence fic

omg their voices are done PERFECTLY

Just wanted to say that your thoughts about TLMOE being like a live action cartoon are bang on. I think that’s why, even though I hate it, I get why they killed Lewis off… he was just too real! Thank you so much for that post tho, it seriously was everything I was thinking ❤️ -highqueenhanson

awww thanks! Glad you liked the post! I have so many thoughts on TLMOE, it’s wild <3

(But yes, like Tandy, I will miss Lewis dreadfully. :( )

Hmm also (just bouncing around from thought to thought here) there’s been a lot of stuff drawing on religious symbolism this series, specifically the story of Noah which is obviously in itself an apocalypse story

Like, the storyline about the gang leaving Malibu very explictly drew on the theme (“You’re Noah? So we’re the animals”) and just now in the series, as everything is looking its bleakest, Tandy prays to God and suddenly there’s a rainbow representing a little hope (ie Gail not being dead). There’s no way that was done unintentionally, but I guess I don’t really know what to make of it

a few more tlmoe thoughts

I’ve heard people spectulating that Lewis’s death might actually have been a suicide, because he figured going out in a blaze of glory would be better than spending the rest of his probably short, dangerous life either searching for a man he knows in his heart is dead or waiting for Pat to show up and kill them all. I actually don’t hate that theory, as it at least grants him some friggin’ agency.

Plus according to Carol’s very, ur, Carolesque tribute, the gang haven’t found the plane’s black box yet, so maybe when they do they’ll find a recorded message from Lewis and everyone will be very sad. As they should be.

Ironically, although he’s obviously blaming himself for what happened, Tandy was actually right about the aeroplane. It would have been a moment of hope for everyone after all they’d been though, and it would have been a massive step towards finding other survivors and a doctor for the group. God I hate it when a show builds up hope and then brings it (literally in this case) crashing down. Sigh.

I’m going to call that Gail won’t die after all, as the show now seems very firmly entrenched in the six mains (Tandy, Carol, Todd, Melissa, Gail, Erica) + one recurring character who dies (Phil, Mike, Lewis) format. Based on what we know of Kristen Wiig’s character I guess she’ll stick around for half a series and then die too. Woe. (Kristen Wiig is obviously not going to stay for long no matter what happens to her character anyway, as she has too much else to do.)

Cleopatra Coleman really doesn’t get enough credit for her acting in this. The whole funeral scene was perfect and she always delivers the funny lines well too.

Todd is completely unrecognisable from his sunny self now. :(

The image of Tandy in his dinosaur costume walking sadly down the street, stopping at the church and taking it off is exactly the right mixture of absurdity and pathos, which makes me love this show beyond all reason even when it makes huge missteps, which I think Lewis’s death was.

Sometimes I want to describe this show as basically a live-action cartoon and I’m not sure I’m wrong in that assessment. I sometimes think its closest counterpart would be something like Futurama.
