I am 21 years old and bedridden with severe nerve damage from an accident. There is currently no alternative housing that will cater to my disability. Over time, if there aren’t donations I will not be able to pay for my accessible temporary room, nor bond on a cheaper apartment (about $2,000), nor a ramp for the affordable apartment ($1,600). Without urgent donations, I will DEFINITELY be homeless by Christmas.

Hi, my name is Mia Kwon (Korean name: Kwon Jungyeol – 권정열). I am from South Korea. In 2009, we moved to Canada because my parents knew how harsh Korea’s society and standards were for the youth. We haven’t been back to Korea since, because money has always been tight. My parents were computer programmers in Korea. But despite their knowledge and talents, they were forced to work in a meat factory because they couldn’t speak English. Thus, until today, they’ve worked in labor. Just recently, my grandpa has fallen ill. We found out that he had a brain tumor, causing memory loss and his condition is getting worse each day. He may only have few weeks to 2 months left to live, and my family MUST see him before he passes away. We tried to sell our furniture, asked for bank loans, and whatever else to help us pay for our plane tickets and our monthly bill while we’re gone. We’ll get food and a place to sleep at our relative’s house in Korea, and we have enough to cover for our bills (we managed to scrap up 4,000 dollars) but we still need to pay for the plane tickets. We need about 3,000 dollars for the round trip to and from Korea for three people. We are very very stuck and time is very precious for us right now and we can’t waste any more. We’re in a very rough place, and right now we are on the verge of selling my pet bunny Hanna because we have no one that can take care of her and the pet caretakers/pet sitters in my city charge a lot. (300 dollars a week w/ tax). I am going to be missing a lot of school work which is a huge deal for me since I’m in full IB (the diploma program) and to lose my grandpa AND even my bunny while getting so behind in school makes me fear the future and what is in store for me.

This is, again, just over $1,000... and like I said… it’s temporary and I simply can’t find another accessible place despite spending all day every day searching and despite that I desperately want to leave.
The payment for my room is 2 days overdue. I MUST pay the $1,000 by Thurs 10th Nov. Home care and other assistance (incl. inspections of alternative housing on my behalf) will cost at least an extra $859 (corrected) this week.
As always, I also need legal fees to sue for compensation for the accident that caused this disability. Existing funds when I was harassed offline, so I will need to raise $15,200 USD (corrected) within 6 months for the compensation case.
Disability payments can be denied or cut at any point and Australia is already following a UK policy that has killed thousands, yet at the moment I am set to remain utterly dependent on charity and unreliable government benefits.This compensation claim would offer assurance of financial support and essential healthcare. I’m just super fucking bitter that once the flint water crisis got it’s 15 minutes of fame people stopped giving a shit. The water is still poisoned, people! Flint has been living this way for over two years.

I’m not going to lie, it’s extremely physically and emotionally taxing to run this fundraiser, to basically say the same thing in different ways over and over again every single day without fail, and if I do fail, then I will have no protection against being dragged out onto the street or being denied healthcare. It makes me angry that people see me suffer as someone who is only 21 and becoming weaker while having been stuck in bed for years, without being willing to do anything about it.
I’ve raised huge amounts at certain points during this fundraiser through viral posts, but that was only when things became desperate or dangerous for me, and that sort of situation would likely have just never happened if there were adequate and consistent reblogs & donations. I want people to understand that economic deprivation that delays healing to the point of permanent immobilisation is almost the same as deliberately imprisoning someone arbitrarily, and denying me financial support to the point of putting me in danger of economically “justified” violence is being complicit with the violent person. I also don’t think explaining my life in an honest way like this makes me “manipulative”, which suggests that people think horrible situations only exist when people make them up.
I understand that not everyone can donate, and not many other people are in great financial situations either, but I am just asking for a reblog, which could really help change my situation. I’ve been getting next to no donations, and am a week behind on bills that my life is dependent on.
