As of this moment, Kesha is unable to perform features on anyone else’s records, create any live recordings (even of other people’s songs), sing the national anthem on TV or put up an acoustic cover on YouTube without Dr. Luke’s explicit permission. Because Kesha is signed to Gottwald’s publishing company, she is also unable to make a living writing songs for other people (something she’s done in the past — “Til The World Ends,” among others).
If Kesha and I wrote a song together right now, I would own 50% of that song and the other half would belong to Dr. Luke.
No matter what she does with her career at this point, everything she does will directly benefit her abuser, regardless of whether she’s in the same room with him or not. The systematic sexual harassment and abuse of women in the music industry is nothing new, but Kesha’s situation is a very particular nightmare.

This. So much. When I worked at a grocery store, this always pissed me off. Hell. I just posted about it. I’m sorry but if you can afford all that brand shit then you can afford to buy your own food. Now. I understand some people need EBT. But more often than not, the people that came into my line were working the system.
Having been the well dressed person with food stamps? No working the system or fraud was required. Before my divorce I had nice things courtesy of being a two income household. Even then, I shopped at TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, & Filene’s Basement because I liked nice things, but I didn’t like high prices. My ex cheated on me & beat me up so I filed for divorce & moved into my own apartment with my son. I lost my job, so I finally used my GI Bill to go to college. Single parenting while a full time student isn’t easy. When my ex stopped paying child support I moved into a cheap apartment in the projects, & I applied for assistance. My son has food allergies, so I continued buying the specific things that he can eat. They’re more expensive than average, but I wasn’t going to risk his health for someone else’s sensibilities. You don’t know our stories from what you see at the register. Don’t pretend you do, just because it makes you feel better about being a bigot.
Assholes who tell you, you don’t deserve nice things or deserve to treat yourself/have someone else treat you to nice things because you’re on foodstamps should shut all the way the fuck up.
Cause rich people who work careers that screw basically everyone else over are so much more deserving of nice stuff. Shut the fuck up with this, I know all about your life bullshit just by looking at someone’s clothing labels or how they pay for their food. This obsession where people’s stuff and money comes from is bullshit and we know it comes from more than just some classist bullshit but some scary ass notion of monitoring anyone outside of the “deserving” group.
Can we just talk about how easy it is to get fake & discounted brand name products? I definitely grew up on food stamps but I still have a “Luis Vitton” and “Fendi” back from High School that I got off the side of the street, or in sketchy stores, from friends or family members either giving me gifts or trying to make money.
Why? Because even though I was poor I still liked to have nice things, and NEWSFLASH – you can get anything cheap these days. All this does is explain why poor people go out of their way to have nice things – since apparently we’re still judging people by the labels they wear these days. I’d rather someone thought I was wealthy and scamming the system than look at me and know the extent of poverty my family was in.
It just seems like these cashiers are just mad because – how dare these low class food stamp people have nicer things than them! Apparently people on food stamps must walk around in burlap sacks to keep cashiers from being upset with them.

The South Dakota State Senate just voted 15-20 to ban trans students from using the school bathrooms that match their gender identity.
If
Gov. Dennis Daugaard
signs the bill, South Dakota will become the first state explicitly banning trans students from using the right restrooms, even though the federal government has clearly stated that this is discrimination.
House Bill 1008 states that “every restroom, locker room, and shower room located in a public elementary or secondary school that is designated for student use and is accessible by multiple students at the same time shall be designated for and used only by students of the same biological sex.”
The bill defines “biological sex” as “the physical condition of being male or female as determined by a person’s chromosomes and anatomy as identified at birth.”
This is unjust, unconstitutional, unenforceable. Let’s do something about it.

A grand jury declined to indict anyone in the death Sandra Bland, who was found unresponsive in a Texas jail cell last summer, the prosecutor said.
The grand jury will reconvene in January, however, to consider if there should be charges in her arrest, which was caught on video and sparked an uproar, according to the prosecutor.
Bland was pulled over on July 10 for changing lanes improperly.
But a confrontation erupted between her and the officer – some of which was caught on dash cam footage.
The officer who pulled Bland over could be heard on the video threatening to “light…up” Bland, apparently with a stun gun. Authorities at the time said she was “argumentative” and “uncooperative.”
The confrontation continues off camera where Bland said she can’t feel her arm and the officer says she kicked him, according to audio from the tape.
The officer was later put on administrative duty for rules violations. His current status was not clear.
After being taken into custody she was found hanged in a jail cell three days later.
