Black Panther has arrived at Disney California Adventure in the Disneyland Resort. Accompanied by some of his warriors, King T’Challa rides aboard the Shield armored vehicle as he leaves the nation of Wakanda to come and meet guests to the Disneyland Resort. King T’Challa’s entrance begins with two armed warriors and narration that proclaims his arrival saying:

For thousands of year, the nation of Wakanda chose to hide its magnificence from the world. Those who were seduced by whispers of a technological oasis in Africa searched but found nothing, or worse, came face to face with our fierce protectors. But the time for hiding in the shadows has passed. We have come forward to share our knowledge and innovation. To take our place as a global tribe in order to make the world a better place. Welcome forth, King T’Challa, the Black Panther.

The Black Panther arrives at the Disneyland Resort on the same day that his movie of the same name hits theaters. Black Panther is receiving rave reviews and had a record $25.2 million Thursday night previews. Black Panther will be meeting guests for a limited time at Disney California Adventure. Make sure to stop by and see him. And if you can’t, DAPS MAGIC will have more photos (and potentially video) coming for you to enjoy!

What do you think of the arrival of Black Panther from Wakanda to the Disneyland Resort? Let us know in the comments below!

No you don’t understand how frustrated I am that we always depicted the Apostles as old men, especially when it comes to during-Jesus-alive stuff.

They were probably late teens to early 20s, given the time and the description and some Biblical passages.

They were not ancient old men with long beards and wrinkles at the Last Supper.

They were young adult rebels with a cause.

where my punk-rock apostles at

I can’t remember where, but the bible says that Jesus was the only one who was old enough to pay the temple tax required by Jewish law, none of the disciples had hit that age. A quick google tells me that Jewish men pay it from the age of 20 – all of the disciples were teenagers.

Why this is possible:

  • Probaly they were all underage except for Peter. In Exodus 30:14-15, Jewish law states that every male over the age of 20 is to pay a half-shekel as census offering when they visit the temple of God. In Matthew 17:24-27, Jesus instructs Peter to “fish up” this tax. Peter finds a shekel in the mouth of the fish he catches; enough to pay the tax for two men, himself and Jesus. You could conclude that the others were underage and did not need to pay.
  • In Matthew 11:25, Luke 10:21, and John 13:33, Jesus calls his disciples little children .
  • We learn that Peter had a wife when Jesus healed his mother-in-law. In those ancient times, a Jewish man receives a wife after the age of 18. Again, no other disciples’ wives are mentioned, so they are unmarried and probably under 18.
  • Jewish children began intensive study at young ages, but education for most concluded by age 15. For those bright (or wealthy) enough, higher education consisted of studying under a local rabbi. If they didn’t find a rabbi that accepted them as a student then they entered the workforce by their mid teens.
The disciples, already working-men, must have been rejected  by other rabbis when Jesus hand-picked them for further education as his disciples.
In light of this, a younger age is more probable than older. A youth would be in the mindset of continuing his education. A man over 30 leaving his trade to follow a rabbi would be counter-cultural , although not impossible.
  • The behavior of the disciples, as detailed in the gospels, fits well with the zealous nature and foolishness of adolescence. Picture a gang of teens instead of work-hardened men in the boat when the storm hit, fear-stricken and waking up Jesus for help. The forgetful and distracted nature of youth helps me understand how they could hear Jesus say he would die and come back to life, yet act as they did when these things happened.
When we age them under twenty, we can understand Jesus’ patience with them, his low expectations of their behavior, and his teaching style.

so punk rock

This changed my life.

MAGS, THE 11TH VICTOR

CapitolTV has released a second set of Victory Tour posters from their archives, and we at Capitol Couture are in agreement; they couldn’t be any more beautiful. It’s fair to say that few of us living in Panem today have ever laid eyes on these rare and precious artifacts, with them having been sealed in the Capitol vaults for over 60 years.

Mags Flanagan, immortalized here as a young woman, looks as fierce and tenacious as ever. Her triumphant win in the 11th Hunger Games made her a household name and Panem’s sweetheart for years to come. It’s incredible to think this stoic girl is the same woman that smiled so warmly and fought so valiantly alongside Katniss Everdeen in the 75th Hunger Games.

Fashioning olive fatigues, Mags’ vintage look feels surprisingly on-trend with the current wave of militia attire. This, paired with minimal makeup, makes Mags look devastatingly elegant and timeless. Could Mags have been an overlooked style icon? Capitol Couture thinks so.

As fabulous and eye-catching as this heroic imagery is, and while Mags returned to the Games during the most recent Quarter Quell, these iconic Victory Tour posters remained under lock and key until now… perhaps saving them for greater impact when the message was needed most by The Capitol Gamemakers? Only time will tell.

Don’t forget to follow Capitol Couture for the latest fashion and news from across Panem.

The development of antimalarial drugs is fascinating – it is often driven by war and conquest. When human beings got busy trying to kill each other (during the era of colonial expansion, WWII, the Vietnam War), they often found themselves face to face with an even deadlier foe.

Check out my animation that explores this incredible history.

Read more about the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

I have not had time to make my own blog post today about The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2015, and there are already many out there circulating. Among the best I saw, this one published by Adam Cole in his blog, is focused in Tu Youyou (congrats) and her discovery of Artemisinin to fight malaria.

Congratulations also to the other half of the prize:

Satoshi Ōmura and

William C. Campbell

“for their discoveries concerning a novel therapy against infections caused by roundworm parasites”.

Congrats, and many thanks to all three and collaborators.
