Friendly reminder that John Williams, when composing the Soundtrack of Revenge of the Sith, made the transition from the militaristic Execute Order 66 track to the mourning choir of The Great Jedi Purgespecifically when Obi-Wan was shot down on Utapau because that was the moment when Anakin’s actions boiled over from “I will do this to save what I care about most,” to “I have done this at the expense of all else I care about.”
Do you think that during those 20 years Obi-Wan lived on Tattoine, he looked at everything he was surrounded by and thought of Anakin? That he saw the sand and remembered that Anakin hated sand? That he looked around and remembered that that was where he had first met Anakin? That he watched the podraces and remembered Anakin’s crazy reckless flying and how much he loved podracing?
Do you think he saw Shmi’s grave and realized that he’d never met Anakin’s mother? Do you think he visited her and talked to her about Anakin? Do you think he recounted all of their adventures to her and how much Anakin had driven him up the wall? Do you think he told her that they were best friends and that he was so happy to have known him and that she had raised a great boy? Do you think he told her about how he had failed Anakin and let him be destroyed by the Dark Side?
Do you think he watched Luke grow up and think that that was how Anakin must have looked like as a baby and then as a young child? And then when Luke got into the ages where Obi-Wan had known Anakin, do you think he’d sometimes have to do a double-take because Luke reminded him so much of Anakin?
i almost burst into tears in the middle of class because of a gifset of qui gon gently touching obi wan’s face right before he dies like
G O D that scene is so powerful??? say what you will about the phantom menace but honestly qui gon’s unspoken, regretful, loving farewell conveyed through the lightest of finger touches to his padawan’s face is honestly one of the most emotionally powerful moments in the entire series
“train the boy” he says. but i cant help but think what he’s really saying is “goodbye”
i feel like obi-wan was constantly giving cody heart attacks because as the war went on and got more and more dangerous, obi-wan kept deciding “oh, i kinda feel like wearing less aRMOR TODAY”
like honestly, look at this:
early in the clone wars he had chest armor that looks like it probably covers his heart from both the front and the back and also has plating all the way up his arms as well as on his shins. it’s not perfect, but it’s definitely something, especially considering how the majority of the time, the enemy used blasters
after the time skip, apparently obi decided all that plastoid was cramping his style so he got rid of basically all of it except for his forearms. i would love to see his clones’ reaction to finding out their reckless general had now made himself even more of a target.
by ROTS obi-wan decided to basically fuck armor entirely, opting for fabric and leather alone, content in the assumption that the power of the force and pure concentrated sass will save him. he doesn’t even have gloves anymore lol. cody has long given up hope.
and it only gets funnier when you go back even earlier in the war, because he used to wear FULL ARMOR
boy even wore a helmet
no other Jedi did this, Obi-Wan just went full trooper and wore their armor, rode their speeders, wielded their weapons, “Jedi propriety” be damned (and other Jedi did comment on this). Qui-Gon would be so proud.
and then he just starts….stripping as the war goes on
What with his track record with robes, it was only a matter of time before he misplaced all his armor too.
