doctor who

A production source on the show assured RadioTimes.com that Mackie’s answer to the question was not a confirmation that her character would die.

“Pearl was answering about the scene where Bill appeared to die before being taken away for ‘treatment’ at the hospital, where viewers later discovered that she was eventually converted into a Mondasian Cyberman. This is not confirmation either way.”

In an interview with Graham Norton yesterday Mackie did her best not to give any clues, but she hinted that she would be keen to continue playing the character under new showrunner Chris Chibnall.

I mean, I’m instinctively distrustful of unnamed ‘sources’, but on the other hand the BBC and the Radio Times have a pretty close relationship, so who knows

one (relatively minor) thing that bugs me about moffat who is his tendency to use long periods of time as mere plot points. we got a fairly mild version of it this episode, where bill had to wait for the doctor for over two years, but just think about that. two years unable to go outside, where her only friend is the master in disguise, forced to do manual labor under a terrible boss, while the doctor- knowing full well that time is passing more quickly for her- dithers about explaining this to people, instead of racing to save her. think about that, and think about how little weight that’s given in the episode. now think about rory, guarding the pandorica for two thousand years, or eleven spending nearly a millenium on trenzalore, or twelve spending four and half billion years in the confession dial. it’s all about the bombast of the impressively large number and not about the human impact of that time

#txt #dw spoilers #moffat who #i think it’s symptomatic of a larger problem of moffat’s #he wants big events with shock value but doesn’t always handle the fallout

Also it was TEN years according to an interview with John Simm. The emotional impact of ten years? Ten years of just her and the Master?

Unbound Charity Anthology

doctornolonger:

What if …? We’ve all enjoyed thoughts like these about the Doctor Who universe, tracing out stories about what would happen if just a few things changed. Big Finish popularly explored such scenarios in their “Unbound” series, but now it’s your turn to tell these stories!

I’m organizing a charity anthology, published both in print and ebook, to showcase fan writer talent alongside stories by recognizable Doctor Who authors. All proceeds will be going to the Against Malaria Foundation, a top-rated UK-based charity that provides long-lasting and effective mosquito nets to developing countries. There are already some great names onboard, so now’s your chance!

If you’re interested in writing a short story featuring a “what if” scenario in the Doctor Who universe, please submit to me a pitch by July 3rd detailing a short plot summary, a list of characters with descriptions, and a projected word count. No idea is too crazy, and all Doctors are welcome, no matter how underused or obscure!

My email is nbumbernickel@gmail.com, and I look forward to reading your pitch soon!

I can’t believe that the “Doctor vs. Doctor Who” debate actually, for real, happened in the show

What if his last name is actually Who tho. What if this is a double bluff, and we’ve been trolled the entire fuckin time.

RIVER: Doctor, one day I’m going to be someone that you trust
completely, but I can’t wait for you to find that out. So I’m going to
prove it to you. And I’m sorry. I’m really very sorry… *whispering* Dr. Who. It’s a double bluff you gigantic space troll.
DOCTOR: *teh shock*
RIVER: Are we good? Doctor, are we good?
DOCTOR: Yeah, we’re good.
RIVER: Good.

i understand the criticism of danny pink and bill being converted and the unease but i do think it’s relevant to remember that rory was turned into an auton, activated and forced to attack against his will and i think this is in a similar area

@xingshining said: Rory was turned into an Auton, Amy was turned into a Flesh duplicate and a wooden doll, Clara was turned into a Dalek TWICE (once permanently and once temporarily)…

exactly, i am receptive to the criticism that conversion specifically is something that happens to black characters/companions, and in no way is it invalid (though in danny’s case as he was written and cast colour-blind i wonder what impact it would have on the discussion if he’d been cast white, i don’t think that he’d be written differently but that’s irrelevant because he wasn’t)

but i just wonder a bit how common people think the idea of the ‘monstering’ of companions is in the moffat era, because to read some of the reaction you might think danny and bill were the only ones to experience it

This is the point where someone should definitely mention Jane’s wonderful writing on the monstering of Doctor Who companions: The Monstering of Amy Pond, The Monstering of Clara Oswald, and a general essay on beauty and monstrosity on Doctor Who.

I think the question is not so much “Does this happen only or primarily to black characters?” because the answer would be no, although the correlation with Cyberconversion is particular is pretty high. The question is “Is this really the same thing, with the same connotation, when you do it to a black character, when you do it to a black body?”. And that’s something I’m not at all qualified to answer, as someone who is white.

Ages ago I remember reading a really good post or essay in relation to the Torchwood episode “Cyberwoman” (which again featured a black woman who’d been ‘converted’) and I wish I could find it, because I figure it’s pretty relevant at the moment.

a very good episode with a truly impressive twist (I legit did not see that coming) and some great tricks up its sleeve.

Note: Will retract any and all praise for this episode (hell, the whole series) if Bill turns out to really be dead. However, it is so hugely unlikely that she isn’t that I’m not actually too worried about it (well, not yet). My theory? They’re all back in a simulation, like in Extremis.

Also, this is a really out there theory, but I really do wonder…

What if Twelve regenerates into Michelle Gomez?
