More schools do this pls saying the pledge every morning is the most dystopian shit ever
No one forces you to do it lmao
^^^^^^
Lmaoo it’s literally unconstitutional to require kids to stand for the pledge. I don’t for multiple reasons and not only can no one can make me, but no one has even tried, besides just curiously asking me why. Like fuck no ones forcing you lol
“No ones forcing you you’ll just be in an incredibly awkward position, socially ostracized, and threatened by staff :/// no one’s holding a gun to your head though so it’s ok !!!!!!”
Shut up dumbasses
I mean, it’s nice you went to schools where they didn’t force you? ‘Cause… they’re forcing my son.
Literally. Every day. Threatening him, guilt-tripping him, trying to bribe him or shame him. I have been down to his school to talk to the administration multiple times over this. And EVERY SINGLE TIME I bring them the supreme court ruling on my phone and I remind them he has a constitutional right to NOT participate.
It never matters. They say “Oh, well, then he should just sit quietly” and I say THAT’S WHAT HE WAS DOING, and they say “Okay then.” And the next day he comes home and says, “Mom, today one of the teachers told me her son is in the army and I’m insulting her son by not standing for the pledge.”
This is an eleven-year-old they’re talking to this way. And he was the one who made this choice. He said he sees too much inequality in the world, and too many people in America are treated as sub-human, for him to want to chant ‘liberty and justice for all’ like it’s already happened. I didn’t make the decision for him. He said, “Do I HAVE to participate? Because I don’t think it’s right” and I said I’d support him whatever his decision was. And we’ve been fighting this guerrilla war with the administration ever since.
Just because something didn’t happen to you, specifically, doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. How about you stop acting like your experiences are universal, all three of you up there.
THAAAAAAAAAAAAANK YOUUUUUUUUUU.
I remember one time I was in the office waiting for my mom to bring me a shirt because I had a really bad nose bleed and mine was destroyed. Mind you I’m wearing a white shirt which now has a lot of blood on it. I did not feel well and did not stand for the national anthem. And an administrator in the office who I had never met told me I was being disrespectful and should be standing from the pledge. Lectured me until I forced her to acknowledge how much blood I had lost.
I’ve seen teachers stop class and lecture in front of the class or make everyone CONTINUE to stand until a student who was quietly sitting stands.
it doesn’t matter if it’s ‘unconstitutional’ to force someone, it happens anyway. Doesn’t matter if you go to the principal to complain if the principal feels the same way as the teacher. Doesn’t matter if you go to the school officer, or the police, or the news, or the anything else if they all think the same.
“One of your cashiers has a huge zit on her cheek. It was gross looking and I lost my appetite. She should have popped it before she came in this morning.”
“The cashier over there was counting money. As a joke, my ten-year-old started shouting random numbers. The cashier made an angry face and now my son is upset. He has no right to get angry at a little kid who doesn’t know any better.”
“Cashiers shouldn’t be drinking water bottles while on the clock. What if they put vodka in there?”
“One of your employees has way too many tattoos and does her makeup way too dark. I don’t like her funky colored hair either. It’s trashy and unprofessional. I won’t be shopping here anymore.”
“If the pregnant girl wanted to have relations out of wedlock, that’s up to her, but she should be wearing a fake wedding band while she’s working. I don’t want my children to think that premarital sex is okay.”
“Some of your cigarettes are marked as ”$1 off". You shouldn’t sell them. They condone smoking.“
“I was told I couldn’t bring my 15-year-old son into the liquor section. It wasn’t like I was buying booze for him!”
“The cashier farted silently while she was ringing me up. It smelled horrible.”
“You shouldn’t allow people to bring their service dogs in the store. I don’t like dogs. They make me uncomfortable.”
“You really shouldn’t let your employees go home in the middle of a rush.”
“I let my son eat a banana while I was shopping. I told the cashier. She said that bananas go by weight and she can’t ring them up without the actual product. She told me it was fine and just to remember for the next time, but I know she didn’t mean it so I felt obligated to run all the way back to the produce department and grab another one so that she could charge me.”
“There are way too many foreigners working here. You should be more concerned about making sure Americans are employed.”
“You should build a separate bathroom for employees.”
“I pulled into a handicap spot. One of your cart pushers told me I had to move. I may not be handicapped but I have had a very long day and I don’t have the energy to walk across the entire parking lot.”
“Not hiring my son because of his age is discrimination. I got him his working papers on his 14th birthday last week. That should be enough.”
“Cashiers shouldn’t let customers bag their own purchases under any circumstances.”
Wow people are awful
the only way to read these is in a white suburban mom voice
cannot stop thinking about koko the gorilla saying “comfortable hole. bye” when someone asked her where gorillas go when they die. it just keeps repeating in my head over and over
The PNG Government is sick of Australia’s arrogance and ignorance, and after finding our offshore detention facilities on Manus Island unlawful earlier this year, warned Australia to close them.
Which Australia is… well, technically doing. But not in a way that involves them taking any responsibility for the burden they have put on the island nation, nor showing an ounce of compassion for the asylum seekers – 90%+ of whom are legitimate refugees, some of them even already certified – who came here seeking our help and instead found themselves locked up in conditions designed to deter them from fleeing some of the most horrific regimes in the world.
Instead, Australia is simply closing the camp. Electricity has already been cut off in part of the camp, as has water. Food stopped being served on Sunday, but packs were given out with enough food to last until Tuesday.
That’s tomorrow.
816 men came looking for our help and found themselves imprisoned, tortured, and now abandoned.
As for tonight, I just want to express that my staff and I are truly heartbroken for the familes of all the victims in Las Vegas. We encourage you to help in any way possible, that makes sense to you.
HB2796 is an absolutely blatant attempt to strip away the civil rights of transgender people; and it’s absolutely fucking terrifying.
Quoting the official summary of HB2796:
This bill prohibits the word “sex” or “gender” from being interpreted to mean “gender identity,” and requires “man” or “woman” to be interpreted to refer exclusively to a person’s genetic sex, for purposes determining the meaning of federal civil rights laws or related federal administrative agency regulations or guidance. No federal civil rights law shall be interpreted to treat gender identity or transgender status as a protected class, unless it expressly designates “gender identity” or “transgender status” as a protected class.
HB2796 is currently with the Republican-majority House Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice. Please, PLEASE–especially if you’re cisgender, and doubly if you’re one of their constituents–call the Representatives on the committee and explain just how much damage this will do, how many lives it will destroy, and how many legislative careers (hopefully) hinge on its passage or failure.
Committee members are:
Chairman Steve King (R-IA-04; King is also one of HB2796′s sponsors) – (202) 225-4426
Vice Chairman Ron DeSantis (R-FL-06) – (202) 225-2706
Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ-08; Franks is also one of HB2796’s sponsors) – (202) 225-4576
(Note – Listed phone numbers are for DC offices only, but links go to pages with both district and federal office information, as well as additional avenues of contact.)
This bill is unfathomably mean-spirited and cruel. I don’t do a lot of “call your representatives” posts but the posts I’m reblogging states the case succinctly. are you a person who considers yourself a compassionate person who cares about doing the right thing? Then please call your reps about this bill, whose only purpose is to shame, harass, bother, and disenfranchise people who are just trying to live their lives as they see fit.
I have reblogged this an innumerable amount of times and I won’t stop. The media spreads this false image to its viewers and we wonder why our self esteem as a whole is so distorted. It’s because the images so constantly shoved down our throats is.
wow
“Of course you don’t look like the girl in the magazine. The girl in the magazine doesn’t even look like the girl in the magazine.”
The Jennifer Lawrence one really scares me.
in a digital age, you don’t need plastic surgery anymore. You just need a good photo shop program.
