Holes, and the fanfiction

One of my late birthday presents was the DVD of Holes. I might have mentioned in one of the icon posts that I love that book. And I consider the movie to be the best book-to-screen adaption ever done… (yes, that even includes LOTR and HP)…although since the author did the screenplay maybe that’s not suprising. :)

Now I REALLY want one of those DVD-screencap thingys. There’s a load of beautiful shots in the movie that would make lovely LJ icons…but I have no idea how to make screencaps. Bah.

The book is one of my favourite books, the movie is one of my favourite movies…but there is one thing that bugs me about it. I feel guilty saying this, but…the fanfiction. There is practically nothing in the fanfiction section except ‘girl goes to Camp Green Lake’ stories. What about those of us who want to know what became of the Warden? Or even Elya and Myra or the lesser-written about characters? Heck, what about those of us who think Sam is more attractive than any of the D-Tent boys, except possibly Stanley? ;)

Ah well…I had an idea for a Holes fanfic a while back. Maybe I’ll write it, then…

Thought about the icon awards thing, and figured that well, you don’t get nearly as many SW icons as you do LOTR ones, so maybe that idea should be saved for later.

On the other idea: I dunno. I already have websites and fanfiction and stuff; I dunno if I can have the time to run a community too. Still, something to think about….

On SW and communities

I keep wanting to open a Star Wars community. So far I’ve had two ideas:

1) SW icon awards…simple enough, just like LOTR icon awards but with SW. I reckon it’ll be cool. (says the icon making addict)

2) A sort of…everything-in-one. It’d have LJ Icon of the Day/Week, links to threads on TFN/wherever, links to other journals, and every post there would be a different essay subject.
Like…oh, I dunno, something like this:

Lj icon of the week:
Plot bunny of the week
Threads of the week:
Site of the week:
and today’s subject:

I just think it would be fun…and other people could post stuff too, like rants or thoughts or pictures or…whatever.

Only trouble is, nothing I start ever gets finished. I once had an oekaki board. It screwed up the images and then deleted itself. I once had a message board. It’s so overun with ads that you honestly can’t use it anymore, it will crash your computer. (I HATE you aimoo. May the Lord God hate you and all your kind, may you be turned orange in hue, may your head fall off at an awkward moment…sorry, been watching Blackadder) I had several guestbooks; no-one signs them. I have a LiveJournal; very few people comment. (ta to those who do ;) )

…god I’m in a bitter mood today. *sweatdrop*

If you’re out there, please tell me…would you post on any communties I made? ;)

When I wanted to revise at lunchtime I went to the Ceramics Studio, which is not a clever place to go when you want to revise, but oh well. The year-nine kids in there were naming themselves after LOTR characters. I claimed the title of One Ring. Have now cemented my position of Most Bloody Immature Eleventh-Year In The Place.

So many questions…

1) They’ve just added a sort-by-character menu to ff.net’s SW section, but they left Padme out. Why? It’s not as if no-one writes about her…

2) Come to think of it, Yoda, Dooku, Mace and Maul aren’t on there either. OK, admittedly hardly anyone writes about them, but Lando’s on there and I’ve never seen a single fanfic about him.

3) And they put both Anakin and Darth Vader on there…

4) Does it seem like I’ve been pondering this more than I should? Next up: How We Can Unlock The Secrets Of The SW Saga And It’s Fandom Through The FF.Net Drop Down Menus.

5) When are they going to put up the new banners for the fanfic boards at TFN? I entered the contest, and while I don’t think I’ve won, I want to see who did. Although I’ll really miss the old WR banner. I like it. :'(

6) Why do pink post-it notes stick better than yellow ones?

(Changed my default icon again…I made this one today and it almost made me cry. :'( )

Waaa…no-one ever seems to read this journal. I feel so unloved.

To anyone who is reading this journal and feels like giving some advice to a clueness not-newbie…what are the rules on icon etiquette? Because I have a page for LJ icons at Starlit Blue, and I marked some of them to say I’d rather they weren’t taken for anyone else to use because I’d like to use them myself…eh, I’m just wondering. Maybe I’m feeling guilty because some of the ones I took for myself were the best ones…or something. Anyway, if you know, please tell. ;)

Closed my SW icons community, because it turned out there was one after all (starwarsicons, I just couldn’t find it. ;) Am now posting in lotricons too, because I think I may just have become addicted to PSP7. Oh dear.

Speaking of which, recently I’ve seen loads of LJ icons featuring characters pleading not to be written out of character…so far I’ve seen Anakin, Padme, Luke, Maul, Remus Lupin and Hermione, so

Livejournal’s been acting strangly this week…it kept only loading half the page, loading and then crashing, or something like that. :o It’s stopped now, but no-one else seemed to have that problem. Perhaps it’s just me…

Oh, and I got a new default icon. ;) It’s of Arwen standing at Aragorn’s tomb…I watched TTT the other night and that scene nearly made me cry. Which is strange, because I never cried or anything before…now I think I’m in love with that scene. And possibly Elrond’s voice, as well. How strange.

There was a ROTK thing on this morning! :D I had to turn the house upside down to find a video tape before the commercial break ended, but I did it. ;)
