tumblr callout culture is disgusting and must be stopped

people are literally reaching for any form of ‘receipt’ they can find, including going years back into peoples history, so they can call them out as problematic

its a form of bullying. its literally that people cant be mean on this website w/out being called dicks so they try to paint their targets as problematic as possible so that they can acceptably bully and bandwagon against that person

its like… its good and useful and necessary if its against rapists and abusers and such but when ur all ganging up on underage kids, usually mentally ill kids, who have made minor mistakes that you could reasonably just talk to them about, theres no need to make a public post shaming them and encouraging others to do the same

people are allowed to make mistakes and learn from them without being witch-hunted out of their communities and safe spaces

do you ever think about how unfair life at Hogwarts was for 1st year Slytherins.

small, defenseless, terrified children who are coming into Hogwarts for the first time, surrounded by people they don’t know and magic they’ve never seen, undergoing a Sorting they’ve only heard rumors about. They’re booed when the Hat (there’s a hat??? there’s a voice in their heads??) calls out “Slytherin!” and even before then, hear the rumors about the House that spawns dark wizards and evil magic. on the train they hear people chattering about the goodness, the bravery of gryffindors, the intelligence of ravenclaws, the kindness of hufflepuffs. they hear about the wickedness and the hateful ambition of slytherins (as if ambition were a thing to be feared, that ambition was something wicked and wrong)

for the first months, they’re surrounded by hostility – upperclassmen wearing scarlet, navy, yellow shooting them dirty looks and intimidating them with size and petty pranks. any attempts to reach out and befriend their peers is met with distrust and falsehood. at every turn, they are met with side glances and whispers.

even teachers side against them. they are blamed for instigating fights (they were only trying to protect themselves!) and where another student would have been reprimanded for forgetting assignments, they are sent to detention. teachers like hagrid, who, though kindhearted and good, still wholeheartedly believe that a house is capable of spawning nothing but evil.

do you ever think about how unfair it is to 1st year slytherins, who are blamed and hated for who they are? that the idea of a teacher favoring them is met with outrage, when other teachers consistently are biased against them? they are rebuffed when they try to befriend others, and they are blamed when they seek comfort amongst their housemates.

is it any wonder that slytherins leave hogwarts with a “fuck you” attitude and no respect for the notion of house unity?

Real Star Wars fans need to stand up for John Boyega.

Just like the outrage of Rue being black in the Hunger Games, the people who are the angriest, are usually the most uninformed fans of the movie they were watching. Some are misusing their twisted version of the lore, to justify their own racist feelings. Star Wars has people and aliens of different races, so it can be frustrating that people can still have negative reaction to a black guy in a trailer, as if he is not supposed to be there.

Many so called fans say they arent racist, but are upset because he is a stormtrooper, and he doesn’t look like the Jango Fett clones. Real fans know that Stormtroopers were not all clones, but many were normal human beings who were recruited after the empire stopped producing new clones after Episode III. In Star Wars Rebels, which is officially canon, they have already introduced multiple stormtroopers who come in all races, including Zare Leonis who is a black man. Plus by the time of Episode VII, the clones who remained would have been dead or elderly. So why so much outrage?

Personally I hope that John Boyega’s character is the lead character with Daisy Ridley, that way these racist jackasses will be forced to make a decision between their own bigotry, and their love of Star Wars.

People whining about a black stormtrooper on forums and YouTube because ‘all stormtroopers are cloned from a white guy!’ more like fake nerd boys, amirite?

Yeah. And they aren’t even right. After the empire came to power, they stopped cloning new troops and replaced them with a volunteer army as the clones started to die out due to their accelerated lifespans.

So a black guy could TOTALLY be a stormtrooper.

Yup, that’s what I mean, they don’t even know their facts. Probably all original trilogy purists who can’t accept the fact that the prequel trilogy is still G-canon.

Not to mention that all clones came from a Maori guy, not a white dude.

Hell, Star Wars Rebels even shows a black storm trooper recruit.
