replied to your post “The big reason I can sort of forgive Draco is because so the…”

I think maybe there is the possibility that he may continue to evolve AFTER the series, but yeah, in canon, he doesn’t get very far. My sister-in-law is currently dating an ex-neo-Nazi (he’s from a super fucked up family and was raised to be that) and he didn’t just go from spouting hate to shrugging at it. He’s dedicated himself to good causes and throws himself at them. And I think that may actually be common of irl defectors from hate groups.

I think it is, yeah. When I was answering one of the previous posts about Draco I went to look up Megan Phelps-Roper, as she was the only recent hate-group defector I could think of, and that’s all there – the apologies and the not trying to plead for forgiveness and the attempts to actually fix things. I tell ya, if Draco had donated some of his vast wealth to charities that helped Muggle-borns, or petitioned the Ministry for reforms in their various oppressive laws, or made some stab at getting people to stop using the word “mudblood”, then I’d appreciate him a lot more. But he just…continued to be incredibly privileged, instead. Goddammit, there are so many Dracos in the world…

I’m glad I’m not the only one. (I also wish people would stop claiming the whole thing is great representation because they’re ‘coded gay’ or whatnot, because the MCU has shown absolutely no interest in having gay characters and by this point I wonder if some of the fandom aren’t basically doing their queerbaiting for them)
