The big reason I can sort of forgive Draco is because so the environment he grew up in. He was raised by one of Voldemort’s closest followers, his world was built around the concept of magical superiority. If Draco hadn’t made any progress then I would definitely agree that he’s an unforgivable villain=]. But to grow up in one environment and then grow up and feel remorse and start to try to amend your behavior. That’s huge. -thebananaconspiracy

See, that’s the thing with me though…I don’t feel like he did make much progress. He just kind of goes from Literally A Hate-Preaching Fascist to Person Who Just About Meets Minimum Standards Of Decency. Is that progress? I dunno, maybe it is. But (and I haven’t finished Cursed Child yet, maybe it happens…) he never apologises to anyone, he doesn’t seem to have suffered that many consequences for his behaviour…he’s reaped all the rewards, it seems, while doing bugger-all work. Compare him to real-life defectors from hate groups and he comes off sorely lacking.

Then again, and this is a whole ‘nother essay, the wizarding world in general seems to set the bar for ‘decent human being’ incredibly low anyway…
