And a snippet from the Holes fanfic I said I would write. Okay, it’s not the same fanfic I had in mind when I said I’d do one…this is a different one…but I still quite like it.
Ordinarily she would have asked “Is anything the matter, sir?” But that was before. The sweet, pleasant Miss Katherine had clearly died along with Sam.
“What are you looking at?”
He didn’t look away, he wasn’t intimidated. Perhaps not really suprising. “I’m looking at the woman who just saved my brother.”
Her jaw dropped; she quickly closed it. “You are? I mean…you are.”
“Tell me, girlie…why’d you do that?”
“They were going to hang him, and he hadn’t done anything.” She just remembered to add “And don’t call me girlie…I have a pistol. I could shoot you and not loose a wink of sleep over it.”
“Somehow I doubt that,” the man said. Katherine, of course, doubted it too. “Answer the question, anyway. Why’d you save him?”
“Because I heard people talking…he was clearly innocent.”
“Ah, but not from their side of things.”
Whose side was he on? “I care nothing for their side of things. This town can go to hell.”
“Now, now…I wouldn’t go that far. Haven’t you ever killed an innocent person before?”
“No, and I don’t plan to.”
“Then you won’t get far out here. No-one can take the law into their own hands and not have a few people caught in the crossfire.”
“I’ve only ever killed one person on my life, and that was the sheriff who was going to hang-” She stopped immediately, but the man was looking at her.
“Ah, so there was another reason.”
“I want the injustice I’ve seen displayed to end-”
“You use a lot of long words,” he interupted her. “You won’t get nowhere by just talking.”
He had sucessfully made her feel like a stupid little girl. She turned to leave, furious.
“Thank you for saving my brother,” he told her.
She stopped. “I didn’t exactly save him. He ran out of town. He could have been bitten by a rattlesnake…or a lizard…or anything.”
“He can look after himself.” The man sounded almost amused. “Anyway, my lady…tell me your name?”
In future years to come she would have no idea why she’d told him. “Kate Barlow.”
“Ah.”
There was no mistaking what that meant. “You knew who I was? You did! And that means you know…”
“Sam.” He ignored the sudden look of grief on her face. “Onion Sam. Knew him when we were both kids. His family was the only other black family we knew of, see, and vice versa. I remember his dad…he used to pick onions too, you see. Must’ve shown Sam where to pick them.”
Katherine felt weak. “And you know what happened to him?”
“News reached me.”
“I see,”
He suddenly stood next to her and looked into her eyes. “I have a piece of advice for you. Go home. Don’t forget about Sam…after all, if it had been James hanged I wouldn’t have forgotten in a hurry…but go home all the same. There ain’t anything you can do, understand?”
“Is this just because I’ve decided to achive my objectives with as little blood spilled as possible?”
“There go go again with the long words…girlie. You ain’t made for this kind of life. Kill or be killed. The strong survive. You’re a schoolteacher, ain’t you? You know about nature. How it’s meant to work.”
She realised her fingers were closed around her pistol. “I was a schoolteacher.”
“What are you now?”
The night air was humid and it was closing in around her. She thought of her own bed, in her own home, in her own town…but how did she know it was even still there? They’d taken her lover, her job and her schoolhouse, how did she know they hadn’t taken everything else too?
“Well, I’m not what I was. I’m Kissin’ Kate Barlow…apparently.”
“Thought of that name yourself, huh?” She nodded. “Most outlaws are named by the people trying to catch them.”
“I kissed the sheriff after I killed him. I don’t think it’ll take people too long to get used to my new name.” When he didn’t say anything she added. “And I could kill you if I wanted, and kiss you too.”
“You’re playing a dangerous game.” he said, unconcerned.
“This isn’t a game…and I’m not going home. Ever.”
“Suit yourself,” he said, and put his hat on his head. “I’ll leave you to it then…Miss Katherine. But if you really do intend to right a few wrongs…I’m warning you now, you won’t be able to stay innocent while doing so.”
Then he walked off into the night. Katherine blinked back some tears.
She was not going home.
Lastly but not leastly…
The word “Jew” has been googlebombed by an anti-Semitic group which wants its definition of “Jew” to be the first that shows up on a websearch. If you would like to combat the hate, please link to the Wikipedia definition of Jew. Your link tag needs to include the word “Jew” in order for it to work. –
So I’m going to link the word “Jew” as often as possible…in this journal, if I type a word like ‘jewel’ I’ll link it to Wikipedia’s Jew entry. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lack of words with the word Jew in them. Jewellery, jeweller, jewel…ah well. More oppotunity to invent my own words. :D
And just one more thing…what is it with pop-up ads recently? I mean, they’ve always been there, but now they seem to pop up even when I’m not doing anything…I hate ads…
So many questions…
1) They’ve just added a sort-by-character menu to ff.net’s SW section, but they left Padme out. Why? It’s not as if no-one writes about her…
2) Come to think of it, Yoda, Dooku, Mace and Maul aren’t on there either. OK, admittedly hardly anyone writes about them, but Lando’s on there and I’ve never seen a single fanfic about him.
3) And they put both Anakin and Darth Vader on there…
4) Does it seem like I’ve been pondering this more than I should? Next up: How We Can Unlock The Secrets Of The SW Saga And It’s Fandom Through The FF.Net Drop Down Menus.
5) When are they going to put up the new banners for the fanfic boards at TFN? I entered the contest, and while I don’t think I’ve won, I want to see who did. Although I’ll really miss the old WR banner. I like it. :'(

Seen Star Wars: Episode II today!
And now,I get to try film reviewing for the first time. ^_^
First off: Remember my old clique,Fandom? That does it: I’m making it a Star Wars layout. Some of the shots in this movie are just unbelievable. Like at the beginning…I loved all of that.
Next thing: I’ve only seen two other SWs movies…Empire Strikes Back and The Phantom Menace. So forgive any mistakes (and there will be plenty. ~_^)
Okay,on to the proper review:
The acting: Hayden and Natalie (you know who they play…Anakin and Amadala) were,as almost everyone has said, (don’t say wooden,don’t say wooden…)um,kinda bad at the beginning. But then they get loads better. Yes,the romance lines are terribly cliched,but they’re bearable. Ewan McGregor rocks. I really liked the fighting in the rain scene,with Boba Fett’s dad-dangit,forgot his name,gotta go look it up-Jango. That was it. And also:
‘We’ve come to rescue you.’
*looks up at chained hands* ‘Good job.’
But you’ll have to scroll further down for my favorite line from him. Anyway,he was just cool-and my mother just informed me he is married. Hmph. Moving on…
Whenever I see young Boba Fett,I keep thinking of this one SW poster of him later on that’s in my brother’s bedroom. That good or bad? I thought he was quite cool,anyways. And that one scene at the end with the helmet…well,I won’t spoil it.
Jar-Jar! Yes,he’s back. I am one of those demonic beings who doesn’t mind Jar-Jar. Although I have only seen Phantom Menace once,and that a few years ago,so if I ever see it again,I might find him the most annoying thing in the galaxy. I think I heard my friend say he was funny,and nothing at all about him being annoying,so maybe there are actually several demonic beings lurking around. ^_^ Jar-Jar is only in the movie for a few minutes,anyway. I read on a message board ‘It was Jar-Jar’s fault!’ and seeing the movie I understood that. Although I think he’s more of a scrapegoat really.
C3PO was okay. The head-swapping thing and ‘Did I just say that?’ got a few laughs. We didn’t see a lot of R2D2…I was hoping there’d be more. I like that droid.
Christopher Lee was cool,but being the FOTR fan that I am now,I can’t stop thinking of him as Saruman. And the fact that he says almost the EXACT same things to Obi-Wan in this that he says to Gandalf in FOTR,doesn’t help matters. ^_^
And finally…Yoda! Oh my god. Even though I’m not the world’s biggest SW fan,havin only seen 3 of the movies now,that was AMAZING. That lightsabre duel absoulutly roxed,and I liked that line ‘Lost a planet,Obi-Wan has. How embarassing.’ Lol! And Mace Windu kicks ass too. I heard he asked for a purple lightsabre specially. Which is cool,everyone else’s is either green or blue,or red for the bad guys. (Don’t you get pink or yellow or orange…never mind)
My favourite scene was Corusant. WHOA. Closely followed by Yoda’s scene. My friend (Emma,BTW) was talking about that all the way home.
Oh,and I haven’t mentioned the scene after Shmi dies…(big spoiler!). That was scary. And when Anakin talks about it afterwards…
The day ended with me and Emma cracking up and flinging water at each other in the toilets. Had to say that because it was funny,I was scared someone would walk in and then run straight out. ^_^
Oh and later,I was tempted to buy a mini-lightsabre. I didn’t though,having spent most of my cash on ice cream,McDonalds and the like. Yes,I want a lightsabre now. ^_^ My offical rating of the movie? 4 stars.
And the best,best,best part?
I get to see it again tomorrow! :D

Fanfiction: I’ve just finished writing two chapters of my Harry Potter fanfic,Of Mudbloods And Green Serpents. You can find it at Starlit Blue and review it at fanfiction.net,should you want to. ^_^ It’s about a Muggleborn girl going to Hogwarts,making friends with Ron,Harry,Hermione and co,and…wait for it…getting Sorted into Slytherin. Better than it sounds,and the girl is anything but a Mary Sue. I think. ^_^;; My character,Sonia,is bullied badly by the Slytherins for being a Muggleborn,and in one of the chapters the leader says something about not wanting pictures of ‘mingy mudbloods’ in the dorm,and she hits the picture of Sonia’s (dead) brother to the floor and treads on it. I actually nearly cried writing that bit,but I don’t know if the writing is actually good.
I talk too much about my own fanfiction.
