signal boost

sophaldred:

For the past 3 years, I’ve had a serious neurological injury that has kept me house bound + bed bound 24/7. To make matters worse, in April 2015 I was evicted from my previous accommodation for being disabled. My only option has been to live in expensive temporary accommodation.

My rent costs $290 more than my weekly social security income, and home care costs an additional $200/week. I can’t work, and have had difficulties accessing government services. I would really appreciate any support people can offer to prevent me from becoming homeless.

My friend Tahira is offering art and cosplay props commissions as rewards for donations full details and more artwork examples at this link. Small donations are also appreciated and will accumulate to help a lot. Thank you for your support!

When I begin texting a new person, there often comes a point in the conversation when they hesitantly ask me, “So, I hope this isn’t rude, but how are you able to text so fast?”

I usually make a joke about my lightning-quick ninja thumbs, explaining that my disease has not yet robbed me of my capacity to move my fingers. Inside my head, though, I begin to wonder how long it will really be before I can’t use my fingers anymore.

Losing the ability to communicate is easily the scariest part of this whole SMA disease monster. Yes, it sucks that I can’t run outside and skateboard with my brother. It sucks that I need to be lifted onto the toilet. It sucks that I won’t have the muscle to play video games someday. There are many physical activities that are compromised by my disease.

But the scariest thought is that there may come a day when I’m no longer able to tell my family that I love them, no longer able to share a joke with a friend, no longer able to communicate my wants and needs and thoughts in an effective way.

It’s horrifying.

However, in my 23 years, I have discovered that technology may give me a chance to overcome this terrifying progression of my disease.

With nothing but a cell phone and a laptop, I have a created a way to communicate with the world on a grand scale over the last four years. I am able to effortlessly communicate with friends, family, and followers all from tiny devices in my lap. Because of miracle-technologies like voice dictation, eye recognition, and assistive touch, I will be able to continue this communication for years and years to come, long past the day when my mouth and arms and hands and legs and neck give up on me for good.

I can’t convey the profound feeling of hope this gives me, knowing there will always be technology available to help me overcome the communication challenges of my disease.

But not everyone with muscular dystrophy has those vital technologies that they need. That’s why I am dedicating our end-of-year campaign to providing technology to people who need it.

I give to you “Mission: Tech the Halls!”

During the month of December, my nonprofit and I are going to work relentlessly to raise $20,000. With these funds we are providing 10 iPads to 10 people living with muscular dystrophy. The remaining money will support our equipment-granting program for people with muscular dystrophy.

I need your help as a community to make this campaign successful. Anything you can do to share this post will be an enormous help, and if you have the capacity to give, I ask that you consider making a donation.

Interaction is the most beautiful part of being alive. I refuse to allow muscular dystrophy to strip people of that basic human function. Will you help me?

Every single reblog is an enormous help. Thank you so much for helping me change lives!

Could You Imagine?

demotivated-bear:

Could you imagine having to spend 81 days in the hospital, away from your dogs? Imagine if while you were there, a rabid bat managed to find its way into your house where you dogs were. Imagine if, even though that bat did not come into direct contact with your dogs, their lives were now in danger because of it?

For my friend Morgan, she doesn’t have to imagine. This is the hell she is currently living in. While she was in the hospital, a bat managed to break into her house. It was caught and later tested positive for rabies, resulting in animal control removing her dogs for the standard 10 day quarantine. However while the dogs were in quarantine, it became clear that Morgan had been lied to. Rather than keeping the dogs UTD on their shots as promised the people she trusted instead pocketed her money, resulting in the dogs’ lapsing on their rabies vaccination.

As per North Carolina law, all unvaccinated dogs, cats and ferrets that may have come in contact with a rabid animal must be kept in veterinary supervised quarantine for 6 months. This quarantine is at the owner’s expense and comes out to about $33 per day. This cost does not include fees associated with medicating or vaccinating her dogs as needed.

Morgan has unfortunately fallen so far behind in her payments that the vet is threatening to send the dogs back to animal control, where they will be euthanized. These dogs are her life, and losing them would destroy her. If you can’t donate, please signal boost this!

alljustletters:

I am a 22 year old chronically ill cosplayer who lives on allowance, and I am trying to raise some extra money (for meds, dietary food, devices that make my daily life easier, and costumes) by selling cosplay props!!

Not even two weeks ago, I was diagnosed with a chronic illness called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, or Systematic Mastocytosis Type II. Although I’ve known I was sick for a while, as my symptoms have gotten increasingly worse over the last eight years, and this diagnosis is extremely helpful insofar as that I now get treatment, it also means I will never be healed. I currently have to buy expensive medication, and while my insurance covers some of it, I have to always pay a share for every package (and since I take like seven different pills, that amounts to quite a lot), and there are individual ones that do not get covered. Additionally, I have to forgo consuming anything that has gluten, wheat, or milk proteins in it for at least three months, which means I have to largely rely on dietary products that are much more expensive than the groceries I usually buy. I also need to adjust my daily life around flares that cause me immense pain and/or fatigue, so there are many little and some larger things I have to buy in order to make household chores easier, things in my apartment more accessible etc. On top of that, I have decided to permanently take care of our sick cat (she has heart failure), and while luckily the cat welfare society still takes care of her medical expanses, we need to be able to afford cat food, kitty litter, etc.

I do not want to beg for money because I think there are a lot people who need donations much much more than I do. However, it would be incredibly helpful for me to sell some stuff, so I have gone through my cosplay props and am offering the following things (all of which are handmade):

1) Sailor Uranus sword prop

Made from a plastic base, with added ornaments made of acrylic clay, and a blade made of foam and plastics. Painted with different acrylics to create a metallic look, then decorated with rhinestones. Length at approximately 53cm/21in. Sword is lightweight and relatively sturdy (can be carried around in bags for example).

Price: €12.50 / £8.76 / $13.29 plus shipping
Sold via etsy, find the listing here!

2) Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier bionic arm (USED! NEEDS REPAIRS!)

This one is a bit complicated. I am selling the arm that I made for my own Winter Soldier costume last year, partly because I cannot wear it anymore as I’ve gained fat and muscle mass since then. However, as of now, the prop itself is damaged and in need of repairs. I am offering to sell it to you like that, so you can repair it yourself, or I can repair it for you, in which case it is going to get more expensive.
The prop consist of the arm in one piece, and a glove for the hand, which can be tucked into/under it. Images of me wearing it as well as of the process of making it can be found here. Images of its current state and the repairs it will need can be found here. The arm is approximately 57cm/22.5in in length from shoulder to wrist, but can be stretched a bit longer. The inner circumference of the upper arm (aka the circumference your upper arm should have at max) is roughly 27cm/10.6in. When I made it, I was wearing a women’s size S. The glove is also in Small.
The entire thing is made from mostly foam rubber, glued onto cloth, and what feels like a million layers of paint. It took me ages to make, has been changed and upgraded several times, and is the most complicated and most expensive prop I ever made. I am happy to provide repairs for you, if you want to have it, but please consider that I used up all the material for it and will have to buy new one if I repair it, including pretty expensive paint (Viva Decor Inka Gold), so I would have to make it significantly more expensive. Please also consider that I used a lot of material on in, and the price that I give below is not much more than just the material costs, so you’re getting my work hours for free.
Price as it is right now: €30 / £21 / $32 plus shipping
Price with repairs: €50 / £35 / $53 plus shipping
Shipping (approximately): €4.40 to Germany / €8.90 within EU / €15.90 outside EU

3) COMMISSION: Imperator Furiosa’s belt buckle

Please note that the images above are not of the product you will receive, but of my own, already used and therefore somewhat distressed, buckle, to give you an idea of what I make.

The buckle will be modelled after that of Imperator Furiosa from Mad Max: Fury Road. It is the buckle only, without a belt attached. While not entirely screen-accurate, it is carefully handcrafted to be as close to the original as possible.
You can order the product with or without chains. Please understand that they are the most expensive material and take the longest to attach, as I sew them individually to the bottom of the buckle in order to make sure they don’t come off when worn, which is where the price difference stems from.
Price without chains: €7.50 / £5.26 / $7.97 plus shipping
Price with chains: €17.50 /

£12.26 / $18.60 plus shipping
Sold via etsy, find the listing here!

If you are interest in any other item from costumes I have made (including clothes), feel free to ask if it is for sale!

There is also cute, partly fandom-inspired, jewellery in my etsy shop, and I am planning to put more online soon-ish, so check it out and consider marking it as “favourite” to get updates.

Even if you can’t/don’t want to buy any of it, maybe give my shop a “Like” and reblog this post for your followers. I can honestly use every small amount of money and support. Thank you!

The Only Mosque In Peterborough Was Deliberately Set On Fire

The Only Mosque In Peterborough Was Deliberately Set On Fire

gothezra:

allthecanadianpolitics:

The small Muslim community in Peterborough, Ontario is on edge after its only mosque was damaged in a fire that police say was set deliberately.

“Offences such as this, committed in relation to a place of Worship are taken very seriously and the Police Service will make every attempt to determine who is responsible,” said a statement from Peterborough Police provided to BuzzFeed Canada.

The fire at the Masjid Al-Salaam Mosque began late Saturday night.

“The building suffered heavy smoke damage inside, with little damage evident outside,” reported the Peterborough Examiner. “Damage is estimated at $80,000, fire officials said.”

“Yes we are muslims but we have not hand in what so ever happened in Paris, plus who said those cowards are muslims at first,” wrote Kaho Mohamed Garweeyne.

#parents mention #suicide #signal boost

I know I did
something like this a couple of monts ago, and I know that I don’t have the
right of ask for help again but I really need a hand right now and I don’t know
who to ask since I don’t have any friends outside this silly place and my
family is full of shit so asking them to help me is not the safest thing.

A couple of
days ago I was in a really bad place mentally speaking. Ive been depressed for
a long time but last Sunday I was even playing with the idea of killing myself
for real and I knew that if I didn’t  get
any help I would actually do it.

So  Monday I called my psychiatrist for emergency sessions.

And the
thing about those sessions is that they are quite expensive.

And when I say
expensive, I really mean it.

My medical coverage
only allows me two emergency sessions per year, so I need to pay for the one I had
today and the next two.

In resume, I
need $330 before next Friday or my parents are going to find out and I will be
in real deep problems.

So I beg
you all with all my heart, please, help me.

I know that
I have no right and that there is other people who probably need this more than
me, so if you cant donate, just signal boost this.

Thank you.

@MizCarmelVixen is the creator of the hugely successful comic book movement #BlackComicsMonth (In which ever month is black comics month!). Fans and followers of her work in promoting black comic book characters and creators include Gail Simone, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Scott Snyder, G Willow Wilson, Greg Pak, Kieron Gillen, David Walker, and many many more. Right now SHE NEEDS OUR HELP.

After being rear ended by a vehicle going 35 MPH Vixen had to go through intense physical therapy. During September 2014 something went wrong and she lost feeling in parts of her lower body. She was diagnosed with having 3 degenerative discs and sciatica, and some of the nerve damage might be permanent. She has not regained feeling in her leg and walks with a cain. Vixen’s insurance claimed she was at her medical improvement limit for a year, and while they are finally willing to pay for her surgery, they are refusing to pay for post surgery rehabilitation care.

A single week at rehab would cost upwards of $5,000 and payments are upfront only. Vixen needs out help! You can read her story, read updates on the situation, and DONATE at this link. If you want to support diversity in the comics scene, want to support someone who has organized amazing online movements and convention panels promoting black comic characters and creators, or just want to support someone who really needs our help, now is the time.

Please reblog, share, and DONATE!

Please share and support if you can.

I’m a 20 year old woman, bed bound with a complex neurological condition and at risk of homelessness. For months at a time, I’m stuck in my room, and I’m completely unable to lift my head off the bed. My current weekly rent is $490, which is about $290 more than what I can afford with just my ~$200/week social security income. I’ve had difficulty accessing government disability services. They take a long time to process, and despite having been unwell for 3 years, until ~2 months ago, I didn’t have a doctor who was able to report on my condition.

Additionally, I have no accommodation from mid-December onwards. It’s particularly difficult to find temporary accommodation during the holiday season, and with my physical disability. Any donations would widen my range of options and help ensure that I don’t become homeless.

My friend Tahira is offering art and cosplay props commissions as rewards for donating. There are more artwork examples and full details at this link. Please consider making a small donation or reblogging this post, thank you!

If you’re angry at me because of that text post I made on 24th Oct

need help to leave an abusive house

darkphoenext:

clairvoyantweapons:

so I feel shitty doing this but to put it simply I need money to move out of my parents house. my dad is an abusive narcissist and I am terrified of him, have been for at least fifteen years (I’m 25). I wont go into the triggery details of his treatment of me, but things have been escalating lately and tonight he tried to kick me out of the house, although my mom won’t allow that. my mom is, after things he said about her tonight, pretty solidly in my corner, but cannot afford to support me financially. On Wednesday (October 28) I will be speaking to my counselor about the possibility of a group home, as I have no relatives who can take me in. However I’m sure I’ll still need money to survive and I cannot currently work any of the very limited jobs in this rural area because of my disabilities, and I am only at the very beginning of a lengthy and expensive application process to receive disability benefits. I’m currently trying to start an Etsy shop, so I can use the skills I do have that aren’t suited for a traditional job, but with my housing up in the air and only $90 to my name (not enough to pay all the business registration and bank fees), that’s currently on hold.

I’m transgender so this limits my access to group homes, as most around here are Christian organizations that may be no more accepting than my dad is. (though I’m not out to him, he would possibly literally kill me if he knew).

so here’s the part I feel incredibly guilty about, because I was raised to not ask for money if I didn’t work for it. my paypal link is paypal.me/williamthepsychic. donations of any size would be helpful. if you’re donating $10 or more and would like something in exchange, I can draw something for you, examples are in my /tagged/will-draws That link shows my birth name so I’m uncomfortable posting it, but I don’t know what else to do.

thank you for reading this and signal boots are also greatly appreciated.
