lucky-number-go-fuck-yourself:

I feel like that one Dril tweet that everyone uses: “I will face God and walk backwards into Hell.” I feel like that’s going to end up like a lot of pretty famous quotes.
Because you have: “Curiosity killed the cat…” And I lot of people jut use that one piece of quote, but then: “…Satisfaction brought it back.” is the secondary part to that.
So like can you imagine some kid in the future using it and being like, huh I wonder where that original saying came from?, and they look it up and it’s just:
“IF THE ZOO BANS ME FOR HOLLERING AT THE ANIMALS I WILL FACE GOD AND WALK BACKWARDS INTO HELL.” And the kid is just like ??????, and I like to imagine that a lot.

Shipping is such a multilayered thing too.

You can ship characters for happily ever afters, sure, you can ship them for tragically-then-happily, you can ship two or three or four or more, you can ship endless combinations of personality types and relationship dynamics

but you can also ship characters under very specific circumstances, or for a certain period of their life but not for all of it, or only in a certain universe. You might say “I ship these characters” and what you mean is you think they are fascinating together and could have a story together. That story could be any kind of story.

Sometimes it means you want them together for the rest of their lives. Sometimes it means something different than that.

I don’t know about you, but for me, “I ship it” means “There is a story in this ship and I am interested in that story.”

for me, “I ship it” means “There is a story in this ship and I am interested in that story.”

Thank you for articulating this. Yes. Exactly.

honestly I love angst but I need it to have a happy ending

there are actually basically two reasons for this:

1. Strictly-fictional catharsis. I like characters in bad situations because I like to see them overcome those situations.

2. There are plenty of situations in reality that can’t or don’t have happy endings, or even endings that could qualify as bittersweet. But in stories? Heck yeah, the characters can find happiness after struggling. So a more real, personal sort of catharsis from that end.

One of the reasons I love Brooklyn Nine Nine so much is because it’s so feel-good. Shows lately are so dark and gritty, killing people off for shock value, simple miscommunications getting dragged out into massive fights, people being petty and vindictive… meanwhile B99 has supportive relationships and characters apologizing when they fuck up! They all make fun of each other but they truly love each other and are 100% ready to fight for each other.

Brooklyn Nine Nine is so pure and good and I love it so much.
