TICK TOCK GOES THE CLOCK!

It has been announced today that Frances Barber will return to her role as the villainous Madame Kovarian in the third series of The Diary of River Song.

Barber played the role of Kovarian in the sixth series of Doctor Who in 2011 alongside Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor as she worked against the Time Lord in order to kidnap the child of his companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams, the child who would grow up to be River Song, played by Alex Kingston.

The Diary of River Song is an audio-series produced by Big Finish and has run for two successful series which has so far seen River meet-up with the Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Doctors.

Series 3 will add yet another Doctor to River Song’s list as she meets up with the Fifth Doctor played by Peter Davison.

River, Kovarian and The Doctor will appear in four brand new adventures

3.1 – The Lady in the Lake by Nev Fountain

3.2 – A Requiem for the Doctor by Jac Rayner

3.3 – My Dinner With Andrew by John Dorney

3.4 – The Furies by Matt Fitton

The Diary of River Song: Series 3 will be released in January 2018.

Oh oh oh! This is going to be so good.

-and it might implies some Melody background ahahahahahahha-

((LOVED THIN ICE! SO MUCH! Especially how you got that whitewashing moment in! Also have questions! Like; was there a temptation to make a stronger reference to 11 & River’s date to that same Frost Fair? Or would that have taken too much away from *this* story?))

Thank you! Very glad you enjoyed it. ◕ ◡ ◕  I wrote a reference to the birthday date with River but it got cut. It came in the montage sequence on the ice at the start of the episode when Bill is running around trying everything. She twigs that the Doctor has been to the frost fair before and he replies, “Oh yes. A few times.” A stunned Bill absorbs that and we cut to:

The scene might have actually been filmed (not sure) but I do understand why it was cut. You said it yourself – the important thing here is to focus on the present-day story. A mention of River doesn’t move the plot forward, or even advance Bill’s understanding of the Doctor to a significant degree, especially compared to the more solemn things she comes to understand about his past just minutes later.

There might even be another reason it was cut. Perhaps Steven decided Bill should learn about River in some other way further into the series. If not, then if you want to you can always extrapolate from the Doctor’s “Oh yes. A few times”, and assume that Twelve took the opportunity to tell Bill about his wife in between scenes.

So the promo for the new doctor Who episode for next week has the last frost fair. REMEMBER THIS IMAGE FROM DEMONS RUN WHERE 11 TOOK RIVER FOR HER BIRTHDAY?!

I’m still gutted @carrionlaughing‘s River lines were cut from “Thin Ice.” I was so looking forward to a River mention ever since I heard the episode was set at the Frost Fair. I still can’t believe the TARDIS decided to take him there, of all places. River and Eleven must’ve been there like, what, the day before?

(I may or may not still be recovering from the fact that the last episode ended with an elephant at the Frost Fair because of the memory symbolism.)

I’m just sayin’, if the lines actually made it to the filming process the Beeb should include them on the boxset as a DVD/Blu-ray extra where we can collectively cry over them.

Aaaaah! What was the line?
