reinette poisson

silvermarmoset:

Can we please ship Mickey Smith and Reinette? Just do yourself a favor for a second and imagine:

  • it’s Mickey’s first trip to outer space in the TARDIS. They find the fireplace, and good old tin-dog Mickey knocks the wrong thing and wheels around into 1700s France
  • he sees this little girl (and Mickey is good with kids), and he hears the clock—and he’s a mechanic, he knows a six-foot sound when he hears one—he is scared out of his mind, but Mickey Smith is not one to leave scared little kids, his grandmother taught him better than that
  • and there’s THE AUTOMATON. Mickey Smith, panicked in trying to protect this kid and not get killed in his first outing, catches the Automaton’s attention and gets it over by the fireplace and hooked to the ledge
  • Frantic, he smacks the thing that got him here and he’s back at the spaceship, automaton in tow, Ten mildly shocked but happy to play with more robots if Mickey will go get them
  • Ten is so distracted by the robot that he doesn’t notice a certain somebody pressing the thing again—Mickey wants to make sure the little French girl is okay—Rose’s “wait!” falls on empty air.
  • and oh shit, Mickey is met by this gorgeous woman, who calls him her imaginary friend and seems to remember him as a hero, an angel, not a scared guy—and oh no, this woman is Madame de Pompadour, isn’t she?!
  • quite a start for your first adventure
  • And when Mickey gets back through the fireplace, Rose and the Doctor have wandered off—of course they have, that’s what they do—so Mickey, looking for them, wanders through another door and into France again, and meets Reinette some more
  • and more automatons, of course; but Mickey’s a mechanic, he knows his way around those; delicate parts snap easily
  • Reinette is a delicate part, and wants to dance
  • Meanwhile, the Doctor and Rose are working it out from the ship—Reinette being 37 is what the droids want; and oh, no, the droids are about to strike.
  • Mickey doesn’t consult them. He has a horse (after all, he’s let Rose keep the Doctor), he has a mirror, he has Reinette—
  • Reinette.
  • Reinette, the only woman who has focused on him, and seen the hero he could be.
  • Reinette, so loyal that she rejoices even if he only shows up every few years.
  • Reinette, who is treated as an object by the droids just as much as he is treated as a tin dog by the rest of his life.
  • Reinette……
  • Mickey Smith jumps through the mirror, riding a horse. He and Reinette drink wine, and count the stars they would like to visit but never will now.
  • One wrong fireplace and Reinette is gone forever. Mickey reads her letter in the TARDIS. The Doctor and Rose leave him alone (alone, again). Mickey decides he will be the hero Reinette saw him as.
  • Next adventure, Mickey defeats thousands of Cybermen.

I actually wrote a Mickey/Reinette fic back in 2006!

(no subject)

I keep thinking I should explain the Reinette music video, although that is never a good sign of something if you have to explain it. So, it’s little!Reinette dreaming, right? It goes through her-as-companion (the bit with the Doctor standing against the TARDIS looking at her), and her seeing Rose and a glimpse of her future (that bit of Doomsday with her clinging to the lever) and then some of what actually happened in GITF, like the Doctor seeing into her mind (where he sees- or possibly she sees, I’m not sure- flashes of Rose, Sarah and Romana and what happened to them) and *takes deep breath* then there’s the bits with Rose and Mickey and all the New Series companions (Jackie included) over the words ‘I could do most anything to you’. So essentially, it is Reinette being warned in her dream, ‘IF HE WALKS INTO YOUR BEDROOM, THERE IS AT LEAST A 50% CHANCE THAT YOU WILL END UP CRYING ON A BEACH.’ And then at the end you see Reinette sleeping and Rose waking up, which is meant to say, ‘Hey! You thought all the sepia bits were Reinette’s dream, but maybe you were wrong and all the colour bits were Rose’s dream and I just didn’t tell you HA.’

…good lord that was a long explanation.

What else? Ooh, I watched The Producers (the original) last night. I saw it properly a few weeks ago and fell in love with it. Quote icons may well be coming up shortly. Currently I am bargining to take the DVD with me to university, along with Pirates of the Caribbean (when the friend I leant it to gives it back) and Spirited Away and all three Indiana Joneses.

The Dream- new video

This one is…interesting. Especially the ending. Ask me about anything!

Lesser Angels- world’s first Mickey/Reinette fic

Title: Lesser Angels
Author: sarah531
Rating: PG13, probably
Characters: Mickey, Reinette, Ten, Rose, Jackie
Pairing: Mickey/Reinette
Summary: Reinette clutched his hand, held it tightly.
“The Doctor is worth the monsters,” she said, and it sounded like a epitaph.

Author’s note: I suppose if you squint, you can see a hint of Mickey/Reinette/Ten/Rose. Whoa. But for all intents and purposes, let’s call it Mickey/Reinette. ;)

Doctor Who: The Girl In The Fireplace

Hmmm…I have mixed feelings about this one.

The good:

-Mickey- of course. ‘Mickey Smith, meet the universe. See anything you like?’ I love him and his normality and saying dumb things. ‘It looks so realistic!’ Now if only he had had more to do…but I suspect that comes along next week.

-Rose being nice. As in…not being jealous, not being bitchy…being actually concerned about Reinette, and then about the Doctor at the end. I love this Rose, and hope she stays.

Maybe it was School Reunion that brought this on? She knows there’ll always be others, and while he may love her, he loves them too?

-Oh, and I love that Madame du Pompadour has a first name we can use for her now.

-Drunk Doctor.

The bad:

So…he jumped through the mirror and trapped Rose and Mickey on the other side, and himself on Reinette’s side. I do think the two of them probably could have got back without him…there must be some ‘Doctor has done something stupid’ emergency program in there somewhere. But still. And Rose probably knew, somehow, that he’d be coming back, and he did, but all the same he didn’t know he’d be coming back…he essentially abandoned her in a spur-of-the-moment decision. Oh please, RTD, or whoever’s writing the next lot of episodes, let this have consequences. Did Rose even know that by jumping through the mirror he was leaving her – did she know that once he did that the portal would close, or did she assume he’d be able to get back anyway? Will she one day go back and find Sarah Jane and say ‘He abandoned me once, too?’

…hold it there! I want to write that.

So, yes, writers, let this have consequences! Like what you didn’t do with the whole Adam thing. Please please please? Then it wouldn’t bug me nearly so much.

I do think they’re setting things up for Rose’s departure, now. She may love him, and he may love her, but he’s an alien. I bet by next week, he’ll have forgotten Reinette as well.

Off the subject of that episode: I miss Jackie. I adore Jackie- the thing I love about this series is how it contrasts the extraodinary with the ordinary. Rose may be off meeting dead French people and getting captured by monsters and welding big space guns, but Jackie’s got to tidy the flat and pay the electricity bill and stuff. That’s why I love the episodes set on the Powell Estate so much…I can’t quite explain. I hope she’s back next week, anyway.
