Peter Capaldi visits a sick Doctor Who fan who was too ill to attend the show’s official festival

The fan, 14-year-old Daniel, suffers from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) and Postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS), and is bed-bound.

Capaldi’s visit came about following a campaign by the fan sites Bad Wilf and Geek Syndicate, who used the hashtag #drwhodaniel to help spread the word.

Daniel’s wish to meet an actor from Doctor Who – especially an actor who’d played the Doctor – came true when Capaldi arrived at his ward. The actress Frances Barber, who played Madame Kovarian on Doctor Who, also visited Daniel, while showrunner Steven Moffat sent a video message to wish him a merry Christmas.

Be sure to check out the The Bad Wilf where we originally learned about Daniel’s story!

You’re looking at a span of more than 50 years here. The fellow on the right is the actor now playing the lead in Doctor Who. He will star again in the new series premiere one month from now. The fellow on the left was the Director of the very first episode of Doctor Who, which premiered 23 November 1963.

The BBC tweeted this photo today of Waris Hussein’s visit to the set in Cardiff.

But how is Waris Hussein 76? He looks maybe 40!

Could the next Doctor be a woman?

Could the next Doctor be a woman?

For over fifty years Doctor Who’s leading man has been, well, a
man. Despite the fact that during the course of the show the Doctor’s
‘regenerated’ into thirteen different bodies, that body’s always been a
male one. But perhaps that’s finally about to change.
