I’M GONNA CRY AT HOW MUCH I LOVE THEIR FRIENDSHIP AND HOW MUCH THESE TWO WOMEN SUPPORTED EACH OTHER AND RELIED ON EACH OTHER, it’s a simple story, but the sheer weight of Padme’s trust in Sabe and Sabe’s loyalty to her Queen is really touching
#there are so few moments where padmé is unwatched and alone#because 90% of her scenes are about her relationship with anakin or her role in the Senate#and then she’s either perceived through the public eyes- as a politician#or as this fixed idealized persona her husband wants her to be and which is not /her/#but here she’s just herself – left bare and aching and with nothing but her failure and abandonment and fear#and this is the padmé amidala who deeply moves me as a character#the one i find really tragic#more than the senator or the queen or the doomed lover that the fandom wants her to be#this very lonely woman in a fancy empty room watching her life and everything she ever held dear turn to ash before her#she failed in more than one way and she lied herself about a lof of things (the republic her husband perhaps even herself)#but she deserved more than this#more than the betrayal and the powerlessness and this empty room at the end of nothing (via lagren0uille)

↳ Queen Amidala addresses the Senate (TPM)#there is no universe in which george lucas is an accomplished political satirist (no matter how far away) #but he IS a solid tragedian#and one of the beats he manages to hit well and repeatedly in the prequels is how the republic sows the seeds of its own destruction #(padme is the republic she is its defender and staunchest advocate and here she is paving the way for palpatine to ascend!) #the very nature of the jedi order is what brings about anakin’s turn to the darkside—which in turn brings down the jedi order #george lucas knows how to build hamartia into a story #and even a clunky script and firing his editor couldn’t impede that (via notbecauseofvictories)
