Now, Viceroy, we will discuss a new treaty.
padme amidala
I’m having a lot of Padme feels rn.
Because like she spent her whole life fighting for people??? She was 14 when she became queen. A 14 year old steered a planet through occupation, undid generations of racial animus, and maintained effective rule beyond that crisis. Then, we she was relieved of duty, she accepted the job of senator even though she was weary and would be away from home for months on end.
She was the embodiment of the Republic. Just, fair, kind, but not averse to risk. Padme always knew what the best course of action was to benefit her people while also being prepared to face the consequences. War was her worst enemy because she saw the suffering it could cause during the blockade. On Tatooine, she saw what could happen if democracy disappeared: rampant crime, starving mothers, enslaved children. She would rather sacrifice her life than see such a horrible fate fall onto the Republic, and she did.
Padme was the Republic. When she died, so did it, as did all the good in the galaxy. But, even her final acts in life were dedicated to protecting the galaxy. Trying to contain Anakin’s wrath on Mustafar before he could suffocate the last flames of hope remaining after Palpatine’s ascendance was her penultimate service to the people she had served. Her final act was to give the galaxy all she had left to sacrifice. Luke and Leia were given their mother’s last breath with which they were given her mission: restore peace, redeem Anakin, find balance, protect the innocent.
From the moment she was born to her deathbed on Polis Massa, Padme Amidala was a great champion of liberty. When the Age of Heroes came to it’s dismal end, she was the last one to still have hope. Her faith is what gave rise to the Rebellion and it is what will, one day, finally bring lasting peace to the galaxy again.

I can’t for the life of me remember where I read this, but apparently Padme’s dress in that scene on the left is deliberately meant to invoke a hand around her throat, foreshadowing her eventual death.
So, ouch.
a cool bit about Queen Amidala and her handmaidens:
The Queen speaks in a dialect and uses an accent specific to Naboo royalty.
Her Handmaidens do not.
Whenever a Handmaiden poses as her to be a decoy, they adopt the dialect and accent. Thus, the actual sound of her voice becomes equally important in disguise. Padmé
does not speak in the Royal Dialect, and neither do any other handmaidens, but Queen Amidala does.
This is a whole other layer to the decoy thing, with clothing, makeup, and posture being just three more layers of what the Handmaidens do to protect the life of their Queen. More layers include duplicating mannerisms, general preference, and basically playing the character of Queen Amidala as Padme has built herself up to be in the role. Literally the toughest acting job in the world.
However, when
Padmé
becomes senator, she loses the dialect and makeup of a Nabooian royal – therefore making her handmaidens’ job that much harder in being decoys. Being Senator Amidala is actually more dangerous than being Queen Amidala.
There exists so much trust between Padmé and her Handmaidens, and they keep that trust until the very end.
I am constantly SO IN AWE of these women and the power that they hold in the Star Wars universe.
SO IN AWE.
#keeping the romance secret
#obi wan is so mentally and physically exhausted he doesn’t even care anymore#he’s like kiss each other idgaf#fuck each other on the floor#i’ve seen so many horrors today i don’t even care#i’ve been imprisoned sentenced to death by execution gladiator style#a shit ton of jedi died today#you guys wanna kiss each other i ain’t gonna stop you i don’t have the mental energy anymore#i try to tell anakin what to do but he does it anyway#anakin slow down#don’t go through the power couplings on coruscant#anakin goes through the power couplings and they get electrocuted#anakin chill out bro#anakin jumps out the speeder#obi wan’s like there’s no use anymore#i’m done#anidala (via @padmaynaberrie)
Look at that..
And so many people are like “how did Obi-Wan find out?” ummm…because he was right there. He knew but he let it go, the whole galaxy was changing, the clone wars started, Anakin was knighted, Obi-Wan had bigger things to worry about then Anakin’s attachment to Padme. Which honestly he had warned the council about when they first assigned Anakin to protect Padme but no one listened to him then.
i’m pretty sure they’re not kissing tho

People get on my case because of how much I love the prequels but okay hear me out:
They gave us Padme Amidala. Padme in my opinion, is one of the greatest characters Star Wars has to offer and without Padme there’d be no story.
Without Padme, there wouldn’t be the Skywalker family. Anakin wouldn’t have fallen in love with anyone else. He was always very aware of what code he was breaking and it always sat funny with him. But for Padme, no code was important enough to leave unbroken. For her, it didn’t matter because the love he had for her was stronger than any force.
Both Padme and Anakin are some of the most well written characters in the franchise and I get so angry when people write the prequels off. Padme had such unrelenting faith in Anakin that she flew all the way to freaking Mustafar while nine months pregnant just to prove he still had goodness in him.
She knew all of the terrible things he had done but she wasn’t willing to give up on him because she knew him in ways even Obi Wan didn’t. She knew Anakin still had a lightness inside of him despite all of the horror he had participated in. And she wasn’t wrong either. She knew his character even better than he himself did.
Padme was the only thing in the world that mattered to Anakin Skywalker, and Padme was the only one strong enough to know what that meant.
As a child queen, she was able to gain an alliance with the Gungans, something that had eluded those of Naboo for a crap load of time. As a senator, she assisted in gaining the clone army and driving back the Sith occupation, all the while struggling with her feelings for Anakin and not knowing if duty should be thrown away in place of her heart.
Padme Amidala is beautiful and we don’t deserve her.
