Lin-Manuel Miranda said in an interview that he wrote the song āYouāre Welcomeā for Maui once he knew the character would be voiced by Dwayne the rock Johnson because he thought that Dwayne the rock Johnson would be the one person on earth who could sing something so egotistical and have us completely convinced we should be thanking him and honestly heās not wrong.
This just further proves my theory that he added in theĀ āMaui can do everything but floatā line knowing that people will be making the pun aboutĀ āthe reason floating is the only thing Maui canāt do is because heās The Rockā.

Ā» You canāt manufacture another Hamilton. Iāll never write another Hamilton. Hamilton is singular – the man and the creation of the show. Ā«
I ļ¬nd that, for me, the work is a safe place to put all the stuff you donāt want to put in your real life. I donāt want to be a crazy, manic asshole. I donāt want to have an affair. I donāt want to have a fucking gunļ¬ght. But! Thereās a part of your brain that wants to experience everything, and so workās a safe place to explore it all. Both in the writing and in the performing. I get to write about an affair. I get to have the guilt and the feeling of that without having to fuck my life up. [laughs]
Art is the place to safely explore all those other sides of you, because the side you want to bring home is the side that wants to be a good father and be a good husband and be a good son. In art we can be fucking nuts
