guardians of the galaxy

sevi007:

(Spoilers for GotG 2)

Very satisfying fact (because karma):

Ego, in his madness to reach his goal, killed his own children, probably killed the women he had those children with, and for sure killed the only woman he had every claimed to love because the feeling would make him weak. On top of that, he was ready to kill the child he had with that beloved woman without any hesitation.

Ego believed love and compassion to be weakness and distraction.

But in the end was it love and compassion, the thought of his friends and family, the memory of his mother, and the call his foster-father made (“I don’t use my head, I use my heart”) that enabled Peter to beat Ego, else he wouldn’t have the ability to control his powers.

Not to mention that it was love, care and friendship (no matter how tough that love sometimes may have been) that kept Peter alive all this years.

Peter set his bet on love, and he won.

Ego was destroyed by the one thing he tried to deny and never really understood.

(Slight spoilers for GotG 2)

You know, it’s understandable that Yondu keeps his name in the cinematic universe, since it’s his name in all the GotG media… but I do wonder, with his backstory as a battle slave and being sold as a baby already – where did he get his name from, at least in the MCU?

I don’t understand much about slavery, but I think slavers would only give their “property” a name so that they can directly call them. There’s not much to the name – it could even be a number, a color, or just a job description. It’s not like the owner will care about a good and real name for his slaves.

It would make sense when someone named him “Yondu”, at least so that they had something to call the Centaurian by.

Yondu, however, has a family name, too. “Udonta”.

So I’m here wondering – who gave him that name?

Yondu himself? Did Stakar’s crew name him properly, because he was now free and not a slave anymore and deserved a name? Did they join forces and did some research of Yondu’s background, about his homeplanet, his family, and really gave him the name he would have gotten if he had gotten to grow up normally? Or did someone else name him?

Marvel, James Gunn, I need a movie with Yondu’s backstory, please and thank you.

And one with Kid Peter and the Ravagers, too, while we’re at it.

I thought about this too… My headcanon’s a little weak, but i think he named HIMSELF Yondu Udonta.

Like, say there was another Yondu Udonta from long ago who was a great warrior and when *our* Yondu was saved, he got to pick a new name to start his new life. He chooses a name of a warrior, one that the other slaves spoke of with awe…this warrior is a legend, his stories passed down for generations and was saved from being lost by those that knew life BEFORE the Kree…

and it fits him, because he is strong, he has endured, and he becomes a legend in his own right.

This is not only a good headcanon, it is also by far the most elegant way I’ve ever seen of working Original ‘60s Not A Space Pirate Yondu into the MCU.

Go The Fuck To Sleep (the Yondu and Quill edition)

ask-a-ravager:

The rats nestle close to their ratlets,
Half-nut is tryin’ to count sheep.
Yer cozy and warm in yer bunk, my boy.
Please go the fuck to sleep.

The portholes are dark in the ship, boy.
Thanos sits out in the deep.
I’ll read ya another damn holopad if ya swear
That you’ll go the fuck to sleep.

The Nova who soar through the sky are at rest
As the peace is sure to keep.
I know you ain’t thirsty. That’s bullshit. Quit lyin’!
Lie down, idjit Terran, and sleep.

The cosmic wind whispers through space, son.
The stars, they make not a peep.
We’ve travelled thirty-eight lightyears already.
By Anthos, what the fuck? Go to sleep.

All the miners from Knowhere are in dreamland.
The fleas have made their last leaps.
Hell no, ya can’t go to the bathroom.
Ya know where ya can go? The fuck to sleep.

The Kree fly forth from their homeworld.
Their canons roar and slaves weep.
The hot, crimson rage fills my heart, boy.
For real: shut the fuck up and sleep.

Taserface and Narblik are snoring
Wrapped in a big, snuggly heap.
How come ya can fit through the vent ducts
But ya can’t lie the fuck down and sleep?

Celestial seeds slumber in Terra,
And the other worlds Ego will reap.
No more questions, this game is over.
I’ve got two words for ya, kid: fuckin’ sleep.

The bilgesnipes recline on Asgardian plains,
Trinkets at the market are cheap.
Fuck yer Walkman kid, I ain’t fetchin’ you shit.
Close your eyes, cut the crap: sleep.

B.O. wafts around the Eclector
Like a smog cloud it billows and creeps.
My life is a failure, I’m a shitty-ass parent.
Stop fuckin’ with me dammit, and sleep.

(Spoilers for GotG 2, some daring headcanon of mine, could be completely wrong.)

Talked a bit with @forgedobsidian (thanks for helping me out once again) and came up with the thought –

Yondu had been exiled from the other clans for quite some time, before the two movies. He’s a loner when it comes to being a Ravager, not really a member of them anymore, since he broke the code.

But… his men were still with him. Yondu was exiled after he picked up Peter and started raising him, and at least a few of the Ravagers must have already been part of the crew before that, since they remember Peter when he was still simply viewed as “cargo”.

That means that some men, like Horuz, probably Tullk, Oblo, and the others who stayed loyal to Yondu until the very end, stayed with Yondu although he had been exiled.

Sure, there is the fact that Stakar probably could have exiled them, too. But he didn’t say so. He explicitly stated that it had been Yondu who had dealt in children and been exiled. He didn’t say anything about the crew. So if Yondu’s men hadn’t been exiled, they could have tried and changed clans – claimed that it had all been Yondu’s idea, the whole children-trafficking, and just turn around and walk away from Yondu, to join another Ravager-Captain.

They could have left Yondu and look for another job altogether.

Or they could have blamed Yondu for being exiled and started a mutiny long ago.

But they didn’t. At least a few men in Yondu’s crew stayed with him for no obvious reason.

So, Ravagers or not, greedy jerks or not – they stayed with Yondu because of loyalty.

There were some in that rough bunch who actually stayed on Yondu’s side not because of his arrow, his power, his strength (because even in the end, when he had been beaten, they didn’t waver)  – but because of Yondu, because they were loyal to him. Loyal enough to rather die for him, in the end, other then turn coats and abandon him.

Scratch following the code, scratch following the flames – there were some who only followed the arrow. Who followed Yondu.

Does anyone else really hope Peter and Kraglin went back and gave those guys proper funerals? ;-;
