Inktober day 1: Adventure Time
( I’m about to get sappy here)
Adventure Time is ending in 2018 and I have to say this series is so important to me. It really inspired me to make things for me, no matter how weird or zany. This series is a huge influence on my work and I’m sorry to see it go but excited to see what comes next.
Last month I wrote an Adventure Time fanfic in which Simon, horrorstruck by the person the crown is turning him into, is contemplating suicide when Death himself turns up and talks him out of it. Okay, so far, so kindasorta bleak. But:
That line up there is said from Death to Simon, right at the end, when Simon asks what Death itself could possibly be afraid of. And something about it just got to me. I mean, damn do I relate to Simon – everything that happened to him is a pretty heavy metaphor for mental illness and I’ve got that in spades. And the idea that one’s devotion to willpower and survival could make Death afraid of you was apparently an idea I needed to hear. And also apparently had in my brain somewhere.
So me and my boyfriend made this – he did the drawing for me and I scrawled the text on. I’m keepin’ it around, and on here, just as a reminder…
I’m gonna miss you, Adventure Time. Especially you, Simon.

After just getting back into the fandom, hearing about how Adventure Time’s going to end in two years time broke my heart, but that being said, I’m really glad that I rediscovered it.
The struggles that PB faces with balancing responsibility and putting aside time to spend with those you love really made me think about my own choices and how I’ve let important things in my life slip away. I remember I didn’t really like PB when I was younger, but after growing up and going through stress over having to make difficult choices, I grew really fond of her. (And also the fact that she’s a BOMBTASTIC scientist).
Though I’ve missed a few years (and I’m still catching up on episodes), I’m really excited to experience the last two years of Adventure Time with this amazing fandom.
at is ending, but it will continue to inspire a new generation of artists to create unique worlds, stories and characters. say what you say about the more recent seasons, but for me they have been one hell of a wild ride of emotions and its only gonna get even crazier once the hiatus ends! finn will continue to grow, mysteries will be solved, and theres totally gonna be a big bubbline/petrigrof double wedding so i am most definitely hyped af
aw man. adventure time inspired me to be the creator i am and connected me to so many people. it taught so many people that cartoons are a totally viable and respectable way of telling stories. never saw a cartoon like that…. and the first time i saw honest queer dynamics being explored in a form of media i love. and other themes like depression, existence, but also having such a distinct and natural sense of humor… man adventure time rules
id draw something but im tired, (insert bubbline fanart here) but thanks so much everyone whos worked so, so hard on the show (working on a show is really, really hard…) and helped so many lives even when it seemed like it was way too tiring to do
