Hey Sarah (it’s been a while)! Since you’ve gotten (back?) into several cartoon fandoms lately, I wanted to ask — have you ever watched Avatar: The Last Airbender or Legend of Korra? I’ve been rewatching the first lately and I keep thinking about how much you’d like it. -skalja

Heeeeeeey! It’s great to see you! :D

I have heard nothing but good things about Avatar (with the exception of the movie) and Korra. It is absolutely on my list of things to watch! (And I have Netflix now! Which is AWESOME!) Bless you for thinking of me. <3

Thunderbirds is a classic British show, so we wanted to celebrate the launch of the new series Thunderbirds Are Go on ITV by building one of the iconic vehicles and surprising commuters on their way to work. Seeing Thunderbird 4 cruising down the River Thames brings back a feeling of nostalgia for those that remember the show from 50 years ago and puts a smile on the face of the young. Londoners shouldn’t be worried though as Thunderbird 4 wasn’t out on a rescue mission today – it’s just battling the choppy waters of the Thames.

the “you live with your parents” insult is really flaccid because a metric shitton of cultures don’t see “leave the house forever” as some grandiose moment of liberation that’s so important to the development of a person that it has to happen as fast as possible. until i came to the USA i didn’t know a single person who was pressured by their parents to leave the house because they’re “too old to stay there” or whatever. in puerto rico it is really common to stay with your parents until they and you are both stable enough that you can leave. whaddaya know, there are cultures that don’t place a stigma on being poor or wanting to care for your family or needing your family to care for you for some other reason

I don’t watch Thunderbirds so I can’t send you specific encouragement – but I thought you’d appreciate that I initially thought you meant Pepper Potts as Rescue doing all those things with Stark Industries’ unlimited riches + an Iron Man suit. (Obviously this is an idea that I’d be 110% into! ) -kawabiala

THAT IS A GREAT IDEA THAT I VERY MUCH ENDORSE

I am also very taken with the thought of a crossover involving Pepper (a rescue-themed superhero) and Sam (a bird and rescue themed superhero) flying alongside the Thunderbirds in some weird world where Marvel owns the rights to them too

Though it’s probably beyond the remit of the show(s) I really like the idea of International Rescue getting very involved in political/capitalist standoffs, always coming down on the side of the little guy, and always having remarkably plausible deniability

You‘re suffering a drought due to unethical business practices? WHOOPS WE ACCIDENTALLY DESTROYED THIS BOTTLING PLANT IN THE COURSE OF SAVING CITIZENS, GUESS WE’LL USE OUR UNLIMITED RICHES TO PROVIDE FREE WATER TO YOU TOWNSPEOPLE WHILE WE SORT THIS SORRY SITUATION OUT

Political protestors are in danger due to a zealous, militarized police force? OH NO WE DIDN’T RESCUE THEM PER SE, WE JUST INVITED THEM TO OUR RAD PARTY ISLAND IN OUR SUPERSONIC ROCKET

Government’s refusing to provide adequate clothing supplies for survivors of
IR’s most recent rescue mission? WELL SIRS IT’S A FUNNY STORY, BUT WE
ACCIDENTALLY REPLACED ALL THUNDERBIRD 2′S MISSILES WITH FLUFFY KNITTED SWEATERS

And so on.

I probably will write some of these ideas at some point!

…send me encouragement so I actually do it?
