shout out to gary lineker for causing an absolute meltdown in both the government and the bbc <3

for context: he compared some of the rhetoric surrounding the government’s illegal migration bill to that of 1930s germany.

braverman’s response: “i think it’s unhelpful to compare our measures, which are lawful, proportionate and – indeed – compassionate, to 1930s germany.”

and you know… “lawful, proportionate, and – indeed – compassionate” is a weird way of saying “likely to be incompatible with the european convention on human rights (which braverman herself acknowledged)” and “has been criticised by every right-minded person from the archbishop of canterbury to the UN human rights council

and i don’t understand her saying “i also think that we are on the side of the british people here”, because like… who are these british people she’s referring to?

and sunak similarly saying “it’s obviously disappointing [is it?] to see someone whose salary is funded by hard-working [shut up] british licence fee payers using that kind of rhetoric and seemingly dismissing their legitimate concerns that they have about small boats crossings and illegal migration.”

who has ‘legitimate’ concerns other than ‘christ i hope that another boat full of literal refugees doesn’t capsize in the english channel’? not me! not anyone i know! i want names!

shout out to ian wright too

in case you’re wondering, the bill also prevents illegal migrants accessing help if they end up enslaved.

Yep, the shout out should definitely include Ian Wright, Alan Shearer, and everyone else who – when the BBC dropped Lineker from MotD – basically also went ‘I’m Spartacus’ and bailed as well in solidarity

(ironically it’s a BBC News article which has summed up best why this has turned into such a clusterfuck for the BBC)

AND credit to the players also acting in solidarity too. apparently everyone disagrees with this decision apart from the BBC Chairman and the Tory cabinet

fucking hell they’ve managed to alienate the entire British footballing community in the space of 24 hours. can’t see how this could go wrong for richard sharp at all. he’s definitely not overplayed his hand here. well done guys.

I’m so glad that suspending him actually had consequences for the BBC. Screw ’em.
