This has been sitting around on my hard drive for ages. I figured it was about time it actually got posted.
Title: Stop the planet, I want to get off

Characters: Well, see how many canon characters you can spot.
Summary: ‘I am now seriously considering throwing myself off a Manchester office block- this time of my own free will.’ A bunch of Syrorax survivors, plus some familiar faces, chat in an online forum. And argue.
A/N: I suspect this is partly the fault of drakyndra‘s rant about post-Christmas Invasion fic. ;)

Hi, everyone. My name’s Lynnie- I’ve been looking everywhere for a community to join and this one seemed the best because of the small amount of members (nothing against those who are a member of the big communities too).
Got nothing original to say here, really. My husband tells me I was on the roof of an office block in Manchester- he drove me to it the next day and pointed it out. It feels like a dream, it really does.

I was on top of a public library. All I remember is waking up and wondering why I was surrounded by people and half of them were crying.

That’s the thing, though- she saved our lives- saved our lives singlehandedly! Can you imagine what the woman must be feeling?! That’s more responsibilty then anyone should ever have. The only reason there are concerns about her health is that they don’t want her to keep pushing herself- they’re grateful to her, so grateful that they want her to have some time off.
If I was her, I’d take it.

I stopped watching after they killed three of the main characters off in one go at the end of series 3, then had to bring them back because the outcry was so great.

BAD WOLF used to be written on the outside of Tesco’s, where I live. I think it’s the name of a video game or movie or something, or maybe it’s just one of those meme things gangs of teenagers do.

One day there will be a Sycorax Day movie. That much should be obvious. It will probably feature a star-studded cast, a rousing score, and a massive CGI spaceship. Maybe just to entertain us, they’ll throw in a couple of things that didn’t really happen, like a swordfight or a romantic subplot or more, different aliens battling it out for Earth! I’ll go see it, I think, and throw popcorn at the screen.

Well, I don’t care. I hate them for what they did. This isn’t coming across properly, because you’re only reading it on a board instead of actually hearing me, but-
I hate them. We blew them up, but how do we know more of them won’t come back? We need to get into space, and destroy the aliens. I’m so angry I can hardly think– we weren’t meant for this. Aliens didn’t exist just a month or two ago and now here we are, and I hate it.
We need to destroy every single alien.

I have banned incredible1. I agree with some of what he says, but I just can’t deal with it right now- all the bloody capslock. And, to be honest, he was starting to get on people’s nerves. I think he was the reason SJS and some of the others left.
We’re losing members pretty fast, you may have noticed. If we lose many more we’ll be down to about five, and there’s not much point carrying on with only five. So if you plan to stay, please post.
Bear in mind that if we do close, the offical Alien Victims Support Group (AVSG) is always open -that’s avsg.com -and there’s countless, countless others.

Over the past few days I’ve become more and more worried about this site- people have left because they don’t like the way they’ve been treated, anyone offering real information about, you know, THE ALIENS THAT CONTROLLED OUR MINDS is told to take it elsewhere and everyone’s being bitchy. ****. I’ve had enough. You don’t know what this is like, watching the news and seeing that same footage of people on roofs and buildings all over again. Any day a ship could just come along and think ooh, that planet’s in the way, *boom*. It’s ****ing stupid. I hate it. Ugh, this is amazing. It’s powerful in the way that a lot of fics aren’t, it’s the kind of thing I really like, it’s kind of ‘fly on the wall’. It’s about real people affected by a real incident, it touches you too because it’s so familar. Very unusual format for a fanfiction, but you carried it off so well! V.v.v. impressed.

I liked that. … but it’s making me feel all twitchy, because I can’t be sure I’ve managed to spot *all* of the canon characters! I don’t want to ruin the fun, but can you tell me how many I should find? I was actually a bit reluctant to read “characters online”-fic, but seeing that you’d written it, I gave it a chance, and am very glad I did :)

I spotted Sarah, but then that was kinda obvious… didn’t spot the others. I mean, I saw adam but he’d be too young in this time I think, and then Jamie but he would’ve died centuries ago. And if anyone is reading this before they read the fic – bad on you!

Yeah, Sarah’s so obviously there that I considered listing her as the main character. :) As for the others…Adam is our Adam, because he’d be about thirteen or fourteen in 2007 if he was around nineteen in 2012. Jamie can be…well, first I thought about making him Jamie from The Doctor Dances, but he’d be about sixty or seventy by then, although it could still be him. Or it can (er, somehow) be companion Jamie if you want…heck, DW’s about time travel after all. ;) jacqueline is Jackie, and thomas_f and incredible1 showed up in another of my fics (it wasn’t a message board one, though) And I think that was it. Unless Rose-as-Bad Wolf counts as a character too, seeing as the message is in someone’s name…;) Thanks for leaving a comment, BTW. :D

Firstly: Another fic inspired by my rant, yayness! Secondly: I very, very much like the format. It’s clever and different, and since I am a sucker for interesting formats, I could not resist the idea of it. And was very true to most message boards I know – though as someone pointed out, rather better spelled. And the characters were fun: I got Sarah and Jackie and Adam right away, which amused me a lot – Adam being a teen emo boy, and Jackie with her lack of computer know-how, and Sarah being all knowledgable, and having to vanish for a school thing. *grins* But it really was a great look at how these really big events affected the ordinary people, in positive and not so positive aways. Also, the comment about adding swordfights to the Sycorax Day movie made me grin liek whoa.

Fantastic — it starts off looking as if it’s just going to be a bit of fun about how people interact, but it developed into something very much more with a real story about what is going on in the wider world becoming apparent between the interaction on the board

This fic is fantastic. I love the way everyone has their own identifiable voices, and even the characters we only know through this fic become familiar. And the use of the format is inspired. Thanks for a great read.
