the handmaidens

Send me a character: Dorme -orelseatlastsheunderstoodit

Oooh that’s a good one

First impression: It’s funny, she wasn’t in the movie much, but she definitely made a good impression. I love that she was actually Padme’s friend, that the movie remembered to give her friends not directly connected to the plot

Impression now: I still her like a lot and I’m really glad she catapulted Rose Byrne onto bigger things

Favorite moment: Probably “It’s not me, my lady, I worry about you.”

Idea for a story: I want to know what happened to her during the Rebellion. Her and all the handmaidens, really. Did they fade into the background and lead quiet lives? Did they fight? Did they die?

Unpopular opinion: Um….I like Attack of the Clones?

Favorite relationship: Her and Padme! Like I said, I’m just so pleased Padme was granted at least one close female friendship as well

Favorite headcanon: After Padme’s death, Dorme essentially joined the Naberrie family, because they were united in their grief. After a few years had gone by, Padme’s nieces even called her “Auntie”.

(character meme)

What if Padme’ was so Attached to her handmaidens that when she fell pregnant they did as well.

… Anakin Skywalker would have so, so much explaining to do. :X

“ALL OF THEM, ANAKIN, REALLY??”

“NONE OF THEM, MASTER, I SWEAR!!”

Padmé is just subtly wincing in the background and Palpatine and his thousand-year plan are Doomed because there is literally no way he can make Anakin buy that ALL OF THESE WOMEN are gonna die tragically and unavoidably in childbirth without the power of the Dark Side, THERE’S LIKE FIFTEEN OF THEM FFS, IF NOTHING ELSE STATISTICS ARE GONNA WIN THERE.

Everyone blames Anakin. For once it was actually not his fault, but that doesn’t matter, everyone is CONVINCED it was and everyone blames him. Except the handmaidens, mind, who of course know perfectly well he never touched a single one of them and all just EYE Padmé.

Padmé s w e a t s.

Anakin would be upset about being unfairly blamed for fifteen pregnancies he DEFINITELY had nothing to do with, except this means ALL THE BABIES FOR HIM. >> The risk of being drummed out of the Order is a problem but SIXTEEN BABIES is kind of distracting and look, look, friend: if you think Anakin Skywalker would not be the kind of dad-in-waiting to work overtime to upgrade all the nanny droids and fetch space pickles and space ice cream at three AM given even HALF the chance, then I’m sorry, we CAN’T be friends, we just can’t. The handmaidens literally don’t even have to ask, Anakin is THERE.

Meanwhile Palpatine is like “we are trying to have a war here?” and the Council is like “yes we’re aware but Amidala is apparently having TWINS now so in fact Skywalker might be about to have THIRTY-TWO children, so no, no we’re not, we refuse, war over, we are all taking our clones and going HOME”.

teroknortailor:

a cool bit about Queen Amidala and her handmaidens:

The Queen speaks in a dialect and uses an accent specific to Naboo royalty.

Her Handmaidens do not.

Whenever a Handmaiden poses as her to be a decoy, they adopt the dialect and accent. Thus, the actual sound of her voice becomes equally important in disguise. Padmé

does not speak in the Royal Dialect, and neither do any other handmaidens, but Queen Amidala does.

This is a whole other layer to the decoy thing, with clothing, makeup, and posture being just three more layers of what the Handmaidens do to protect the life of their Queen. More layers include duplicating mannerisms, general preference, and basically playing the character of Queen Amidala as Padme has built herself up to be in the role. Literally the toughest acting job in the world.

However, when

Padmé

becomes senator, she loses the dialect and makeup of a Nabooian royal – therefore making her handmaidens’ job that much harder in being decoys. Being Senator Amidala is actually more dangerous than being Queen Amidala.

There exists so much trust between Padmé and her Handmaidens, and they keep that trust until the very end.

I am constantly SO IN AWE of these women and the power that they hold in the Star Wars universe.

SO IN AWE.
