Nicest kid you could ever meet.
Until Monday morning, Kiera Wilmot was a well-behaved student at Bartow High School in central Florida with good grades and an interest in science. But that morning, she mixed some chemicals together in a small water bottle that caused a tiny explosion. There was a bang and some smoke, but nobody was even close to being hurt.
I remember doing experiments like that in high school. But Kiera was immediately called to the principal’s office, expelled from her school, and arrested by the police (accused of an adult felony charge). If she gets convicted, she could even lose voting rights and have lots of trouble finding employment and housing in the future.
I’m inspired by the people (especially scientists) speaking out on Twitter with solidarity for Kiera. One look at the hashtag #KieraWilmot shows the outpouring of sympathy for what’s happened to her. Curiosity is not a crime, and we shouldn’t be treating it like one!
To help her out, I want to collect some funds for Kiera’s family for the large legal bills that will surely come up as she fights her case in court. She deserves a top lawyer! If we manage to raise any money beyond her legal needs, it should go towards a scholarship fund for her. We need more young American women studying science, and they shouldn’t be afraid of taking chances.
UPDATE: This campaign has been verified by Crowdtilt, let’s start raising some funds for Kiera!
To all my friends on Tumblr, DA or FA who are not Malaysian, or are unaware of the current situation in my country right now.I need you to see this. I need you all to know that my country does not play fair in elections. My country uses phantom voters, money to bribe people, bringing foreigners on overseas from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Indonesia and the like to buffer votes and in the process, manipulate and lie to them that they will be taken care of. They also try to cover up what is really happening inside the country- so others outside the nation do not know the terrible truth that is happening in it.
They murder those that question them if they aren’t high-profile enough, they silence our protests with lies and call it rioting. Not only that, the police- the very people the nation trust to protect and guard them- also take part in harming the people of Malaysia who speak out. Tear gas. Water cannons. You name it.
Most of you are friends and/or artists from around the world that I admire and respect. I need you to know what we are going through. The world needs to know. You guys who I’ve added on Facebook, this is the reason why I’ve been posting and spamming like mad the things related to the election.
Please know this. This country is corrupt, but it’s people are fighting for it. Please.
A Malaysian DA Member is attempting to spread awareness of the horrendous voting conditions in their country. Please help them by reblogging this.

Hey guys,
I need some help.
If you know me very well then you know I’m not really a person who’s great about asking when she needs something, so please know that I wouldn’t do this if it wasn’t serious. If you do know me, then you might also know a bit about my relationship with my father. My father is an abusive and mentally ill person, who had been causing my family constant stress, both financially, legally and emotionally, for over a decade, since my mother divorced him.
Today I found out that if my family doesn’t some how come up with $20,000 by the end of May, we’re going to lose our house because of him. The court has declared that he has a legal right to the house, despite the fact that is my mother who has been paying mortgage payments on it for over 10 years.
This may not seem like much in the grand scheme of things, but the repercussions would be enormous on my family. Because of the nasty divorce, my mother’s credit is too bad to buy another house or get a loan to help pay the fee. My brother Mark is going to college this fall, and she’ll have to support him through that (not to mention the fact he’ll have to leave knowing the home he’s lived in since he was four is no longer his). I will have to move home to support my family, giving up year of experience and credit I have at my current restaurant of employment. My youngest sister who already faces bullying at school, and my youngest brother who is only 7, will be homeless without a roof over their heads. That’s him, in the picture, when he was a little younger, playing in our backyard.
If anyone can spare anything to help my family, I would be incredibly grateful. I can’t offer much in return – I can’t draw or create clothes or much of anything. All I can really do is ask for whatever you can spare, or a signal post if you can’t spare anything.

Thank you all for whatever you can do.
Florida Teen Girl Charged With Felony After Science Experiment Goes Bad:
On 7 a.m. on Monday, the 16 year-old mixed some common household chemicals in a small 8 oz water bottle on the grounds of Bartow High School in Bartow, Florida. The reaction caused a small explosion that caused the top to pop up and produced some smoke. No one was hurt and no damage was caused.
According to WTSP, Wilmot told police that she was merely conducting a science experiment. Though her teachers knew nothing of the specific project, her principal seems to agree.
“She made a bad choice. Honestly, I don’t think she meant to ever hurt anyone,” principal Ron Pritchard told the station. “She wanted to see what would happen [when the chemicals mixed] and was shocked by what it did. Her mother is shocked, too.”
After the explosion Wilmot was taken into custody by a school resources officer and charged with possession/discharge of a weapon on school grounds and discharging a destructive device. She will be tried as an adult.
SERIOUSLY!
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST

This is my fifteen year old sister, Hannah. She has a cyst on her pineal gland, which is in the middle of her brain. (From what I understand, a cyst is like a tumor but filled with liquid.) We’ve known about it for about two years, and it constantly gives her horrific headaches, that can last weeks. Her vision is getting very bad because of it too, and so is her quality of life, she’s started fainting and had a couple seizures recently. Just last week we had a Skype conference with one of the two neurosurgeons, in the world, who would potentially perform the surgery to remove it. (A lot of people have trouble getting this surgery approved, but because Hannah’s is one of the largest cysts in one of the youngest patients, it was approved.) Praise God. The surgery will take place in June, but only if we can pay the $50,000. We really need help raising this money.

Any amount helps.
Please keep her in your prayers.

Seriously guys, get on this. If my followers alone donated a dollar each it would make a huge difference. Please, you don’t know what this means to me, or Hannah, Natalie and Timmy for that matter.
Even if you can’t donate, reblogging helps too.

I meant to get this up here earlier but haven’t been online.
This girl is missing from my University. Please boost this.
They recently found a car they believe to be related to the case.
The flier says to contact university police, but I also would recommend the CT State Police Troop K at 860-537-7500.
boost this, y’all!
Do me a favor, lovelies.
Get that info re: Kimani Gray out and make sure everyone knows that a 16-year-old boy was shot several times while, according to witnesses, he was running for his life from the police.

WTF
Subject: THIS IMAGE SHOULD BE SEEN IN THE WHOLE WORLD
While magazines and TV chains report about the lives and love affairs of movie actors and actresses, football players and other celebrities, the Chief of the Kayapo tribe heard the worst news of his entire life:
Mrs. Dilma, the president of Brazil, has given her approval for the construction of an enormous hydroelectric central (the world’s third largest one) to generate electricity for aluminum and iron ore smelters.
This means the death sentence for ALL the tribes living at the shores of the river because the barrage will flood more or less 400 000 hectares of the forest.
More than 40 000 natives will have to find other living surroundings where they will be able to survive.
The destruction of the natural habitat, the deforestation and the disappearance of several species of plants and animals will be a fait accompli.
We know that a simple image is the equivalent of a thousand words, it shows the price to be paid for the “quality of life” of our so-called “modern comforts.”
There is no space in the world anymore for those who live differently. Everything has to be smoothed away, that everyone, in the name of globalization must lose his and her identity and way of living.
If this enrages you, I urge and implore you to forward this message to all your friends, relatives and acquaintances.
Thank you in the name of life, nature and biodiversity.
