You know, there was one big opportunity that the Thunderbirds reboot didn’t take and I really wish they had: finally actually doing something with Kyrano. I know everybody remembers him as a slightly problematic stereotype, and I guess to some extent he was, but he was one of my favorite of the puppets because he was usually the only one who actually got to show some emotion when his child was in danger. (Aww, tiny puppet tears!)
Anyway, I don’t think it came up even once in the original show, but apparently in the comics his backstory was that he was a genius-level botanist who created synthetic foods for astronauts, and when I read about that I was like DUDE THIS GUY IS A EXPERT FOOD SCIENTIST WHO YOU’D REALLY WANT IN A SCIENCE LAB AND INSTEAD HE’S THE MANSERVANT WHO’S ONLY THERE TO SERVE DRINKS AND SAY ‘YES MR TRACY’ I KNOW IT WAS THE SIXTIES BUT SERIOUSLY. So I really wish the new show had brought him back, not as a servant, and had him doing space botany. (I hear it’s very in right now.)
I think they will bring him back eventually, and it gives me hope that they’re going to do something awesome with his character.
If you guys want some excellent Kyrano stuff like backstory and the emphasis on the space botany, you need to try and get your hands on the Verba books that were published a few years ago by commission, I think it was. :)
That would so be the dream. I hope he’s not dead like the Guide says he’s supposed to be. :(
Joan Verba’s books are licensed (which means they could be considered part of canon!!!) but not commissioned.
Kyrano was not only a kick-ass botanist who worked for the Royal Gardens (his specialty was orchids, IIRC) and created a food for astronauts, but he was also a high level (cordon bleu) chef in Paris. I’ve worked a lot of his backstory into my fanfics and the RP I’m involved with, if you’re interested.

BRING BACK KYRANO
O.M.G. I am 110% in favor of bringing Kyrano into TAG (Kayo needs a daddy too!) and I always knew there had to be more to him than just serving tea!
Finding out he’s a botanist and a space food scientist is AMAZING (because I do botany and am interested in making space food too!), but there’s also a cool headcanon (sorry but can’t remember where I heard it) that he was head of security, and since he disappeared Kayo has taken over his role like Scott has as head commander in place of Jeff.
If he were to come back at all that would be brilliant, but he would definitely need a reboot like they did for Tin-tin/Kayo to make him less of a background character. So, if he does come back, I hope that the writers take all these cool past things about him into account :)
