Bioshock Infinite: HIT X TO SAY RACISM IS GOOD
Bioshock Infinite: HIT Y TO SAY RACISM IS BAD
player: “racism is bad”
Booker: *stares at gun in hand for a long time* “racism.. goes both ways” *kills the only black character in the game who has a name*
I keep seeing comments that say stuff like “this is clearly not about race OP def never played the game Daisy was out of control she was gonna kill a child!!!” and like….
Yall know Daisy isn’t a real person, right? All of her actions and words were fashioned by someone with a particular message in mind. And people really need to be taking a look at the kind of message that was being sent here.
I played the whole game through and I gotta tell ya bud, I just can’t understand why Daisy would do what she did. Well, not from an in-game, in-character stand point. Sure, she was definitely rightfully angry, but her last actions were so far out of left field and there were so many other, better ways where things could have been handled from that point on.
I can, however, definitely see why they would make her do it from a writing/story standpoint. And the only reason for that would be to make Daisy the “bad guy” in that moment, or at least just as bad as the Big Bad in the game.
Now WHY would they need to do that in the story? We didn’t need another bad guy for some half assed “but the oppressed are JUST AS BAD, SEE LOOK ALL THE RACISM AND VIOLENCE WAS JUSTIFIED BECAUSE THEY CAN BE JUST AS BAD AS US!!” twist ending to her character arc.
This is gross, lazy writing, even if we ignore the fact that it’s trying to make people who fight against oppression look just as “bad” as their oppressors for having the gall to be mad at them.
That, on top of killing literally the only named black woman in the game for some shitty last minute twist, is why this is definitely 100% a thing that needs to be discussed.
